Shop manager and student assistant were friendly and knowledgeable, but explained heavy traffic in back-to-school machines might necessitate keeping the unit longer than usual. This was evident by the number of units on the floor, desks and counters. I asked only for restoration of the BIOS, explaining that reinstalling the OS and software was hardly new to a guy who had done it more than 100 times in l5 years' ownership of five successive computers. Manager explained that they preferred to restore WIN xp Home as evidence that units were operating when they left the shop. I thought a $50 diagnosis and restoration of the BIOS was called for, but did not protest too much over the $75 fee. On taking the computer home, it ran for three days, then warned me it could not recognize the HD nor the CD-ROM drives. I opened the case and checked the drive cables. One was a tad too short, placing a strain on the terminals. I bought a longer one to replace it. Since then, all is working well.

It went great overall. After I got the new laptop home, I could not find some of my old emails that I needed. So, I called geekoids.com back, and Doug patiently helped me find the files I needed over the phone. He was very helpful.
