On March 31, 2014 we had the repairs done.  Paid $1130.00 for parts & labor.  On May 19th called them back because unit was not cooling properly.  They checked the unit and said the refrigerant was low, said there was a leak in the coil. Gave us a quote of $3308.00 to do repairs or $3570 to replace entire OD unit. Also charged us $78.00 to come out and do this diagnostic check. This unit is a Lennox heat pump that is 7 years old.  Pretty upset that we just put over $1000.00 into this unit and not two months later unit is not working properly, they charged me $78.00 to come out and look at it again and then tell me it needs a new coil.  Why didn't they make sure the coil was good before putting a new valve in??? Needless to say we did not have them do the repairs and are getting a second opinion from a different company.

We also had to pay an electrician on top of the fee we paid for. The contractor said we needed a new one. I had a friend that recommended this company to me. It was not a good experience at all. They took their time doing the job (10+ hours). I left for the day and my companion told me to look at everything. They cut a hole in front of the furnace and ran a pipe. I thought this was dangerous considering the amount of time smaller kids hang around my home. I called the salesman that this was unacceptable. He came out to look and they were supposed to put a box over this. We had to wait for that and finally they said they were coming. The next day he said he would be here and they were in the area. It took an hour for him to show up. I had a doctor's appointment and he insisted on the time. He was there for a long time. My companion said he had to go and he became snotty about it. The hole was just fixed by covering it up. We were not satisfied with this. He was very rude, impatient, and wasn't at all nice about the job. We were told that we would get a hard copy for our warranty and still haven't gotten it. We really like the new heat pump that was added.

The first time we turned on the furnace after buying the house, the heat/furnace and lights on the thermostat would fade in and out. We called Eastman heating because they had been servicing the furnace for 20 years. They said that a part was failing. We then discovered that a piece of duck tape that we had removed had been bypassing the safety, but would resolve the problem (temporarily at least). On their suggestion we decided to replace the furnace instead of the part. They charged us for the home visit (diagnosis) and then again for the installation of the new furnace. They were very polite, professional and reasonably prompt (they treated us with the priority of someone without heat). They only provided us with three options, all the same brand. They installed the furnace promptly and guaranteed their word. They were a bit sloppy in leaving blue goo on the furnace (which is visible so I was a bit annoyed). They were friendly and generous with their time in explaining the functions of the furnace. They told us they'd send us the paperwork for the tax rebates, but then didn't. I called months later and left a voicemail. They didn't call me back, but a few days later I received the paperwork in the mail.

Great experience with Eastman Heating of Silverton, I would definitely do business with them again.  Tim S. was very experienced, knowledgeable and professional.  He worked quickly and efficiently to solve my problem, educated me on the furnace system and ductwork issues, and answered all my questions regarding the system's current status and how to know when replacement would be necessary.

I discovered this problem on Christmas night.  One thing I learned from this experience was that Dec. 26 seems to be a holiday for all the HVAC service companies in the Salem, Ore. area.  Eastman is my first choice, but when I realized they were closed, I checked around, and so was everybody else.  While they were closed, Eastman's phones were being routed to their parent company, Roth Heating of Canby, and they explained that on the 26th, trucks were only rolling to emergency calls.  Knowing there would be extra cost (time and a half) charged to work on the holiday, I simply chose to have Roth Heating schedule me for the following day.  A good detail to know.

The work turned out very well and we are very pleased with it!

The sales representative who visited the house was helpful and knowledgeable. He fully explained my choices, and I got the system I wanted. I chose the more expensive model because it is quiet, adequate and easy to use. The workers were timely, professional, tidy and careful, and the ductwork they fabricated is tightly sealed. The city inspector complimented the work that had been done.
