Our realtor recommended John and Xavier Environmental to check for an undeclared oil tank in the yard of our new house (there wasn't one). As part of that communication, they also sent an estimate to remove the oil tank in our basement. Since we need the room, I took them up on the offer.
The guys showed up right on time and were super-friendly (I guess that's a bit redundant living in Oregon). They got right to it and although the procedure sounded a bit brutal from my home office, I was surprised to find that they left no dings -- not even in the wood stairs they schlepped the thing up. There's a tiny bit of dirt on the basement floor but other than that they left no trace.
Perfect!

Their charges were reasonable. Their workers were polite and professional. They did the job, cleaned up after themselves. We would use them again.

It took several weeks from time of scheduling the job to actual completion, but this is a busy time of year and they also have to wait for lab test results on contaminated samples. The workers were good and seemed very competent at their jobs, which by the way are very difficult. I received what they termed a "risk based corrective action" on my tank, which had leaked at one end. This was a difficult site to deal with because the tank was under a new paver patio and partly under my new heat pump as well. Plus there were shrubs that had to be moved. Overall, I think John and his crew mitigated the damage as much as possible while still complying with rules for proper decommissioning. The cost for this process is wide ranging, I think, and can go from one to eight thousand dollars or more. You can't really get a firm bid because they have to take samples to see the extent of leakage, if any. High ground water also impacts cost.
