Unprofessional. Most measurements are off. Custom doors are gapped and the hardware isn't even lined up. 6 months later the paint and wood are chipping, and today a hinge fell out of the door (the wood is stripped and broke off of the screws). I've waited a long time to write this review. I didn't want to have to leave a terrible review, but the honest truth is this business is somewhat of a scam. There is no care or pride in the work. When reading reviews from 2016 they sound glowing. There may have been one point when this business was going well. There are so many things wrong with our project, in hindsight I wish I had paid a couple thousand extra and gone to Home Depot or Loews where I know it's an accountable business that will back up their work.

Warning to homeowners: Do NOT hire this company or Munro Cabinetry (same person/ people). I am reporting them to the BBB. We are left with a battered kitchen & huge mess. Peter was consistently late, made several excuses and did not seem to know what he was doing at all. This company should not be in business. I typed their business name into Google just now and a message showed up that they were "permanently closed"? Then why does my original contract have their name on it? Did they close it today after we fired them??

Peter and his crew did an excellent job. As with any job of this magnitude, there were a few problems that were dealt with quickly and completely to our satisfaction.

Cabinets were refinished beautifully and VERY durable (6 months later) they are standing up well and looking great. The front door which has a lot of intricate carving on it was faded and I was leaning towards replacing it. After having it restored I am thrilled with the outcome. For the Floor Peter removed a room seperation railing and feathered in an angular cut piece of hardwood 6 feet long to match the existing HW lines. Carpet on one side & hardwoods on the other. Very well done.

Keith came out to provide a free estimate and advice. From our first handshake the process was amazing. Keith and his crew were easy to work with and the communication was superb! His team made a 27 year old cedar look like it is almost new! His team paid special attention to details, things like cleaning up the work site each night when they finished for the day and taping everything to avoid staining anything but the deck. The price was exactly what was quoted and the work exceeded our expectations. This is an honest, hard working and diligent business and you can be confident that the job will be done on time and on budget with excellence.

Keith from the Bend company put a protective coating on our front door. A previous painter had put something on the door which turned a filmy white color after it rained. Both the bathroom refinishing and front door were done beautifully.

From the first call & bid Peter was professional and clearly knowledgeable. He made me feel confidant that he would be able to restore and match our faded and worn cabinets to the other cabinets we had. His crew took great care to seal up (with plastic walls) their work area so as to minimize dust throughout the house. They were on time, polite, worked hard & did an excellent clean-up job. My cabinets look like new! A couple days later (after they were all done) I realized a small area had been missed (baseboards). After a quick call to Peter they guys came back out a few days later and took care of it. I would definitely use these guys again!

Peter Munro and his crew did  attempt to do the work we discussed. My cabinets were repainted, counters installed, upper cabinet removed, light installed, and painted. Nothing they did was satisfactory - and I really tried and hoped there would be something salvageable with the work they completed. This was my first time hiring a contractor and attempting any remodeling in my home - hard lessons learned. I did look at Angie's List on his reviews, and I feel responsible to let others know what happened to me. I also think there is some confusion with who owned the company before and the partner in Bend - so this review is specific to Peter Munro and his crew in Portland.

NO work was done to a level of professionalism expected or promised. This is not only my opinion - but that of 4 other contractors I had in my home after to review and quote for repairing/finishing the job.
I attempted to work with Peter (with the help of my designer who said the work was very, very poor quality and she would not pay for it). However, he demanded payment and said "He was broke" and that he wanted to be paid and move on. I told him I would need to hire other contractors to repair and finish the "work" he's done, so I wouldn't be paying him until I got other opinions. I had 4 contractors tell me to file a complaint and not give him any more money. I was told that he violated basic contractor rules by never presenting me with a contract or notices

I filed a pre-complaint notice with the board and sent it certified mail to Peter. I never heard anything from Peter about trying to resolve the situation. The sink he installed collapsed into my lower cabinets a few weeks after I filed the pre-complaint and at that time I decided to dispute the charges with American Express for the $3500 I did pay him as a deposit. I have photos and descriptions of the myriad mistakes, problems, and bad work that was done by Peter (and his crew).

The list below is not exhaustive (too much for the space here), but what I was told to do for filing my complaint with the board and documenting the work
Overall, the work was not done on time or in an acceptable, professional manner. I was told 7 days from when counters were removed and the job took over a month. The individuals staying in my house over that time said the house was left with garbage/food wrappers on the floor daily, construction materials in my garbage like paint buckets, nails on the floor, lights on, etc upon leaving. I was told that no one showed up on multiple days when they said they would be there – which required my dogs to be unnecessarily contained and gated in the house.

 Paint All Kitchen Cabinets:

 Issues

No Prep was done, paint starting chipping instantly.

Touch-ups were done with a brush leaving marks everywhere and look shiny instead of matte

Nothing was done (As discussed with Peter) to address mobility of drawers and shavings falling from wood to wood rubbing

Zero cleaning after work of wood chips, paint inside drawers

Move Hutch to Other Wall Finish Out the Soffit:  Used too much putty in repairing the ceiling. It is drying/shrinking and cracking.

Paint used over the repairs is not the same as the rest of the ceiling, Holes in the hutch were not all patched/filled- only one side

No prep was done to paint the wood of the hutch. Needed a proper primer to hold the paint,Magnets were not removed from the inner cabinet, but just left in place and painted over

 Countertops in Prefinished Butcher Block

Issues Needs to be completely replaced on sink wall and counter leveled, Sink was cut incorrectly – 1/16 inch wider in back than front and ¼ inch out of square leaving uneven gaps, Counter was overcut for the sink in the corner initially, Added piece on the side has not been sanded properly and there is a lip, Used wrong color of wood putty and needed cut properly and glue with tight fit, Screw in the wood to hold it down, the counter above dishwasher still has give when pressure is added, Screw won’t be covered unless I decide to tile and have to use a thick enough tile not likely to even cover

Rebuild Two Drawer Boxes/eliminate cutting board for Larger Drawer: Issues -Drawer was painted and left raw – never sanded, Incorrect screws were used to install pulls (too long) and hang out,  During construction, screwed straight through the drawer front creating a hole in the face, just painted over protruding screw, Touch up paint on that hole, no filler, paint is with a brush and needs to be re-sanded and painter, Drawer can’t even be pulled open more than 3 inches because hits dishwasher. Can only open drawer if dishwasher is also open.

Paint Ceiling and Walls - Issues: I agreed to pay $1800 for painting and patching, Nothing was prepped and holes were not patched, nothing sanded, Nails were left in the wall and painted around and over, Overspray is on the outside of the windows, window pain and fascia, Requested for more coats because blue previous color was coming through, never done, Paint wasn’t taken down far enough to cover all the blue near the floorboards, Kitchen wasn’t painted in patches – behind the fridge, upper wall, soffit edge completely not painted, door frame, No or incorrect primer used on cedar so it bleeds through despite pointing it out, Paint was spilled all over the wood floors, floors were not protected, Baseboards were removed (and not returned) without prior approval, I was never given a quote before the work was finished and never agreed to the costs

Repair hole in Soffit Above Sink and Mount Light Fixture:Issues- Never given a quote before the work was finished or agreed on cost.No proper cedar sealer was used before paint was applied, Finger prints left in the paint, Sink or counter was not covered during work and paint splatter on new counter/faucet/sink

Cost of Plumber to hook up Sink and Disposal: Issues

Sink not installed properly or supported (a piece of wood underneath holding it up) and required more expertise to install. I showed and asked Peter if he could install this sink in that space, and even what size to order before purchasing the sink.

Damage scratches to sink from clamps used to hold/set wood counters and ceiling filler falling into the sink from above

Modify Cabinets to Fit Farm Sink; issues, Never given a quote before the work was finished or agreed on cost, Cabinet door stop/divider completely unsupported and able to be pulled off, Broke/cracked wood when installing disposal switch and never replaced, Cabinets were cut and not square, level, or even cuts on either side, Cabinets were not sanded at all after cut before they were painted, Cabinets were scratched after installation and needed to be touched up, touch up with different type of paint or brush so visible.

Unauthorized Work Floors, Issue, With no agreement or conversation, regarding my hardwood floors the baseboards of my floors were all removed, Even removing the baseboards, the crew did not sufficiently paint low enough to cover the existing paint color

Baseboards have not been put back, My floors were not protected when the living room was painted resulting in several large and small paint spills, splatters, drops, Drops/Spills were asked to be cleaned up and now floors look worse, At clean-up, crew didn’t even bother to move the couch to clean the paint spilled underneath, Furniture was removed and not put back as requested.

Because of a long illness in which my husband was confined to a large motorized wheelchair there was a lot of damage to our kitchen and bathroom cabinets.  Keith provided a detailed and easy to understand proposal which included providing some replacement cabinets.

Keith did everything that he said he would do on the quotation in a very timely manner and thoroughly honored his commitment to my project.  We chose to both paint some stained cabinets and refinish some stained cabinets.  The work was completed in a timely manner in spite of the fact that the paint supplier did not match the paint to the woodwork color.  Keith worked with the supplier in a very professional manner until we reached an agreement to replace the paint at no cost to me.  Keith had to then repaint the offending cabinets and finished this very willingly and in a very timely fashion.

I could not be happier with the finished job!  Everything was handled professionally in a friendly manner.  Keith was quick to respond to any phone call or e-mail.  I would highly recommend Keith to anyone looking for someone to do this kind of work in their home.

Keith and his crew did exactly what he stated they would during the initial estimate.  When he explained the process, I was a bit skeptical because it seemed so much more detailed than the other estimates I had received, but at a comparable price.  But as far as I could tell during the 4 days they were working in my home, they took their time through every step of their process and it really shows in their work.  I love our new mahogany cabinets!
The guys were very polite and professional while in our home.  As a new homeowner, I don't have extensive experience working with contractors, but this was easily my best experience to date.  I'm never crazy about the idea of a stranger working throughout our home but Keith and his guys were extremely respectful of us and our home.  We felt comfortable the entire time (besides a bit of noise here and there) and when they finished at the end of the week, our house seemed cleaner than when they arrived.
I really can't say anything critical about my experience with All Wood Restoration.  They were on top of everything throughout our project, finished on time and even gave me a discount when it came time to pay.  I would definitely recommend these guys to anyone in search of a trustworthy contractor that takes pride in the quality of their work.

I am very happy with the job that was done...The old stain and seal were removed from the wood.  It was sanded down and then re-stained and sealed. It was explained before that there would be dust in the rooms when they were sanding and we had time to remove or cover anything if we wanted.
The workers were dependable and arrived in a timely fashion.  The area where they were working was cleaned each day before leaving.   They finished when anticipated and cleaned VERY well at the end of that job..  The men who were working were very friendly and dependable and I can't say enough positive things about my satisfaction..

I was very pleased with the job that All Wood Restoration did for us.  They were on time, on budget and were a pleasure to have in our home.  I was a bit nervous about having a crew sanding in my kitchen and the dust and mess that it would cause but they were very careful in protecting the rest of the home and more than accommodating with our requests for when to begin each day and when to wrap up so they didn't interrupt our schedules.  It is very clear that these two care about the work that they do.  I'm happy I went with the local small business rather than the other companies I received bids from.  It's also great to know that Keith is now providing these services in the Central Oregon area as we have a home in Sun River and feel wonderful that we now have a contractor that we can trust out there as well.  I would recommend All Wood Restoration to anyone in search of cabinet restoration services.

Peter and his team were very courteous, thorough and efficient.  Leading up to the project, Peter helped us select the flooring and educated us on what would be a good fit for our home and why.  He explained how the process will go and set clear expectations.  He was able to squeeze us in his busy schedule and with a family of young children he made sure to ask questions and encouraged us to make proper arrangements so our schedule was not badly affected.  They had the floors installed and wood restained within two days.  All furniture was place back correctly and the kitchen was wiped down.
Our neighbor was so please with Peter and the outcome that she requested an estimate for her window sill.

Unfortunately, it didn't go well at all.  The owner didn't do the work himself despite his assurances to the contrary, and he neither followed up after the job had been completed nor did he check in during the job.  For these reasons, the quality of the work was very poor, and I wouldn't use the company's services in the future.
