Our experience was positive!  He provided a good quality water heater that is a newer version of what we needed replacing.  He was cordial, knowledgeable and did quality work. We would most certainly hire him again.

The whole experience was great. I spoke with Joe on the phone first. He was very easy to talk to and explained everything very well. I was looking specifically for someone who was familiar with installing these two components together and it was very apparent that this was the only company for the job.

I had a few other bids from contractors who wanted to mix and match components and just didn't take the time to figure out what I was looking for. I was worried that picking the right contractor was going to mean paying a huge premium, but their bid was surprisingly competitive with the others. I can easily say that I got 150% or more value with them than I would have with the other bids that were around the same price.

They were the only company that came up with a solid solution for running my duct work without having to go outside the conditioned envelope of the home. Everything was done by their employees except for adding a circuit to the breaker box to service the new set up. They coordinated with an electrician who did a great job running the wiring with minimal cuts into my walls.

My house is now cozy and (evenly) warm - something I hadn't experienced in a long time. The mechanical equipment is tucked neatly away in a small closet, every gas and water connection done perfectly.

Joe came out to look at our water heater and furnace, and give us a bid for a new unit(s).  To our surprise, Joe quickly identified that our current units are in good shape, and to replace what we currently have would be a waste of our money.  He did recommend contacting a third party to view and measure the efficiency of our furnace, but minor repairs or maintenance could easily make the current unit last several (possibly longer) more years.

Joe's honesty was refreshing and much appreciated. In addition, Joe stayed for about 30 minutes sharing his knowledge of older homes and details that we hadn't yet known about our new (old) house. I was thrilled and amazed that he was willing to share his time with us, even after convincing us that we didn't need his services. Joe is truly a craftsman and honest contractor, and I would highly recommend him!

Good experience overall. Joe was a little late for the estimate, but when he arrived he was very efficient and informative. He seemed really dedicated to making sure I didn't overpay for any product that would over-serve our one-bathroom house. His bid was one of the two lowest from a set of four. He did a good job of answering questions as I had them from the time he arrived up until the day of the installation. On the day of, Ray showed up on time and got straight to work. The electrician who came to work with him from Badger Electric was similarly efficient. Everything was done within a few hours and the work areas were in great shape. Ray had to haul everything through the kitchen, and it was left very clean as well. Overall I'm impressed and happy with what we got.

We really appreciated finding this company. I had a friend at work who referred me and had a high efficiency tankless water heater installled at his house and was very happy with the work done by Columbia. I also found out that they have been recommended for water heater installations by the gas company for years.
I was impressed with the quick response from the company when I called. Our older water heater had decided to quit working the previous night and I was pressed to find someone to come out right away.  I talked to Joe on the phone and he arranged to dispatch an installer within a few hours with a replacement tank. His phone quote was very attractive and I knew his pricing was very good based on a few other phone calls I had made that morning. He was offering the high-quality State brand water heater with the full 6 year warranty that the other outfits were using, but for much less.
Ray, the installer showed up on time and quickly drained the old tank. I was impressed with his efficiency and this was obviously not his first change-out!  The truck was stocked well and he had all the fittings and flex connectors that were needed right there. He offered some advice about flushing the tank to prolong the life of the unit and commented on the condition of the old tank, noting that there was some dust and lint build-up around the flame guard screens that could more easilly be cleaned off with the new State water heater.
Overall, I'm very pleased with the company and would suggest that anyone needing a water heater call Columbia Water Heaters...I'm sure glad I did!

No complaints. They were patient with all my questions, punctual with their service, and reasonable in price. Ours was probably one of their more unusual projects as we had an electric water heater that was on the outs and had it replaced with a gas tankless placed on the opposite side of the house.

The job was done over the course of two days. Kevin, the installer, works alone. The guy is incredible. He installed gas pipes under the house, and installed all the appliances himself. Joe, the owner, is a very nice guy.He explained everything and worked with me in a very professional manner. That said, there is no direct way to contact him. He has an answering service to take messages and a cell phone that does not allow messages to be left. He would normally call me back withing a few hours of my leaving a message.

They were good and were reasonably priced. We got tax credit for $3500. They were really nice to deal with and their service was great. We could call them in case of a problem.

Joe was very knowledgeable and gave us a reasonable bid which we immediately accepted - our out-of-pocket expense was greatly reduced by various energy rebates. A few weeks later his employee Ray performed the work. We requested a change at the last minute which slightly increased the price and also created confusion regarding the pending inspection, which was overlooked until I called (multiple times) to get it taken care of before the 6-month deadline. We had a small leak which was dealt with immediately.

Went pretty much as expected. Took all of one day. Ray was friendly, answered my questions and explained what he was doing. Very efficient at doing the work, and had all of the parts needed to complete the job. They did not set up the city (Portland) inspection to be done while Ray was here. The city inspector required them to come back and do gas line pressure test, which required me to be home and a return trip for Ray on another day. Ray minimized the mess and cleaned up the work area, except he left sawdust and some nails on the roof where he cut a hole and installed a new vent.

Ray was fast and efficient in removing existing faucet and disposer, installing new items and cleaning up and carting off old materials. Left and clean work area. Tested the function of both units. Very pleasant and friendly person.

Ray from A-Boy came out to do the installation and right from the get-go was nice, friendly, informative, and professional. We adjusted exactly where he was going to locate the tankless, kicked around a couple of options, and they he went to work. The job took about 4 to 4 1/2 hours and Ray did a flawless job and left the area cleaner than it was before he started. I would NOT hesitate to recommend either Joe or Ray to anyone considering a similar installation. I was settled on a Rinnai tankless until Joe asked me to consider a Navien for my particular situation. I took his advice and I've have never regretted it.

We (10 unit condo HOA) were referred to Columbia by A-Boy Plumbing. They came out in a timely fashion, took a look at our two old, leaking water heaters, and gave us an estimate that was almost $1000 less than another competitor. They were able to do the work that week, completed the job in half a day, cleaned up, and left us with hot water! The final cost was only $20 over the estimate.

Both of these companies were very prompt and polite and the problem was resolved with minimal fuss and a much lower price than we had anticipated. Absolutely no pressure to to something fancier for more money. I would call these folk again for sure.

Generally I had a very good experience with Columbia Water Heaters. The work was well done and quickly installed. One of the first contractors in a while that I felt was truly thoughtful about cleaning up debris and dust. Staff was willing to answer questions and promptly responded to phone calls left with the answering service. My only complaint is that it took multiple requests to receive my bid for services IN WRITING so that I could effectively compare to bids from other companies.

Joe and Ray were both very good. Joe is very knowedgeable and seemed like a very honest person, albeit a salesman. Ray performed the installation. He was very fast, and the overall quality of the installation was very good. The work was completed last November (8 months ago) and we have had no problems with the WH or the installation. If you are shopping for a tankless WH, one thing I have noticed is that from a ''cold start,'' the hot water takes about 10-15 seconds longer to make it to the fixture, because it has to heat up first. Other than that, it works as advertised. I can't provide testimony on the savings that we have experienced by switching from electric to tankless, because I don't have a year of baseline energy consumption data for our house. However, compared our electric bill from a year ago, it does appear that we used about 25% less electricity. I compared prices with George Morelan, and Columbia Water Heaters was a few hundred dollars less.

Joe is personable and prompt with his service. Ray, his tankless water heater technician of 9 years, is Johnny on the spot, works fast, is very tidy and does excellent work. They are both great at explaining the process of the install and how long it should take plus the actual (approximate) savings you can expect by using a tankless water heater. I felt the pricing was fair compared to other contractors. Anyone considering a new water heater (gas, tankless or electric) should contact Joe for estimates and great service. As an aside, this gas tankless water heater costs me about $5-7 a month for water heating (two adults, clothes washer, dishwasher and a 70 gallon soaker tub). I highly recommend a tankless water heater.
