"Thank you so much."
The work went generally well, but there were communication issues, and I was not thrilled about lint and hairs getting stuck underneath the finish. The areas to be refinished were initially taped off with plastic sheeting to keep the dust from the sanding from spreading too much. After the first layer of finish was put on, the workers left the house while I was working elsewhere and did not tell me they were leaving, so I was not sure if they were finished for the day or not. They left windows and a patio door open and all of the lights on when they left. I was not comfortable leaving the house in this state and so had to figure out how to get in after a few hours to shut doors and turn lights off. If I had been able to talk to the workers before they left, I could have asked them these questions.
After the second day, they left the same way, and although they apparently were done with the job, they never told me. Initially they were planning to apply the third coat on a third day, but they were able to put two coats on the second day. They did not tell me this when they left or that they even left. That evening, rain was forecast, and I was really upset that they left a window open again, with no instructions to me on whether or not I could enter to area shut off lights or shut windows. After several calls to the owner's cell phone (the only contact number for the business, apparently), I finally received a return call later that evening and was able to address questions.
I found a fair amount of lint embedded in the surface of the floor over the next few days, and I think that came from them removing the plastic sheeting barrier to adjacent carpeted areas after sanding but before applying the finish. I was a bit disappointed by this, but I think the finish itself is probably fine. I know that some of this is to be expected, but I did not expect there to be so many bits across the entire floor.
Overall, the floor looks a lot better than before, as the finish was gone in several areas, but I was disappointed in my ability to get in touch with the business during the process and would recommend that they add some reception staff beyond just the owner's cell phone. It was very frustrating not to be able to talk to anyone when I was concerned about issues.
