Our kitchen floor was looking pretty bad even though they weren't that old (we think the former installer didn't do such a good job). Contacted WHF and, while we were on vacation, they refinished the floor and it looks new again! Thanks so much WHF!

We just had a wood floor installed in our dining room and the rest of the wood floors refinished, they look beautiful! Willamette Hardwood Floors was a wonderful company to work with. Terry and Joe showed up on time and finished the job a day early. The floors look even better than I had hoped!

Refinished a dreadfully damaged oak floor and now it looks like a new floor. Also installed new floors which matches the refinished floor. The fellows who did the work were very nice and helpful. We are thrilled with the results.

This is a somewhat dated review, since I didn't know Bill was on Angie's List. It is hard to be 100% happy with new hardwood floors, when you have to live through the demolition and construction. Not having a functioning kitchen, my son would practice piano in the garage, my home office was relocated to the loft, etc. But being able to look back at this project, and seeing the finished product a couple of years later (not to mention looking back at the photos), we were glad we went with Bill. Price - we did three bids. Once was a low-ball bid which we discarded. Bill and another provider were in the same ballpark. So Bill won't be your cheapest option, but wasn't crazy expensive either. The tiebreak was that Bill was honest about our options, pros and cons on each. A bit more transparent than the other company. Quality - ideally, I would go with a B+ or A- here. We had a few boards with knots that were placed in high visibility areas. While it does give it some nice character, I would have preferred that they were better with their board choices. But that was two boards in hundreds. Also, we had some issues with pet hair being "baked" into the final finish. In retrospect, I wish we would have hired someone to clean the air ducts before this project. 8 years of cat hair didn't seem that obvious until we saw hairs in semi-wet stain. That said, the ensuing years of foot traffic have ground those fine hairs to dust. I couldn't find them with a magnifying glass today. Responsiveness & Punctuality - the team was on time every day, and really good about communication (when they would arrive, what they planned to work on that day, etc.). Professionalism - Bill is a straight shooter. He doesn't sugarcoat things, overpromise and under-deliver, etc. We were a little taken aback by that at first, but he runs an efficient operation. By the end of the project, we appreciated that. But he might be a bit overwhelming at first. In the end, it was the best fit for us. He knows that we wanted to move back into our first floor ASAP. But not by sacrificing our long-term satisfaction with the project. Overall - I would probably give Bill an A-, but would recommend him. We did bring him back last summer to talk about a new project, but ended up putting it on the back-burner for another time.

We chose the water-based finish because we have 3 pets and would not be able to keep them out of the house completely during the work, and the fumes from the Swedish finish didn't appear safe (based on my own research), though the owner tried to downplay this issue.
The work went generally well, but there were communication issues, and I was not thrilled about lint and hairs getting stuck underneath the finish. The areas to be refinished were initially taped off with plastic sheeting to keep the dust from the sanding from spreading too much. After the first layer of finish was put on, the workers left the house while I was working elsewhere and did not tell me they were leaving, so I was not sure if they were finished for the day or not. They left windows and a patio door open and all of the lights on when they left. I was not comfortable leaving the house in this state and so had to figure out how to get in after a few hours to shut doors and turn lights off. If I had been able to talk to the workers before they left, I could have asked them these questions.
After the second day, they left the same way, and although they apparently were done with the job, they never told me. Initially they were planning to apply the third coat on a third day, but they were able to put two coats on the second day. They did not tell me this when they left or that they even left. That evening, rain was forecast, and I was really upset that they left a window open again, with no instructions to me on whether or not I could enter to area shut off lights or shut windows. After several calls to the owner's cell phone (the only contact number for the business, apparently), I finally received a return call later that evening and was able to address questions.
I found a fair amount of lint embedded in the surface of the floor over the next few days, and I think that came from them removing the plastic sheeting barrier to adjacent carpeted areas after sanding but before applying the finish. I was a bit disappointed by this, but I think the finish itself is probably fine. I know that some of this is to be expected, but I did not expect there to be so many bits across the entire floor.
Overall, the floor looks a lot better than before, as the finish was gone in several areas, but I was disappointed in my ability to get in touch with the business during the process and would recommend that they add some reception staff beyond just the owner's cell phone. It was very frustrating not to be able to talk to anyone when I was concerned about issues.

I'd worked with Bill in the past and as a third generation hardwood floor guy, he really knows floors. He understands how much refinishing a floor in an old house can take, and he coddles them. The finish came out really beautifully. The former owners would give access to the house, and he was willing to take the job on based on square footage and some pictures. The work was completed while we were away, and he and his crew completed the job very professionally with no oversight.
