F&W FENCE CO

This was a difficult project due to steep, uneven terrain and numerous large rocks in the fence route, some of which required jackhammering to remove. Fred and Bryan were extremely helpful suggesting options for dealing with these challenges and explaining the pros and cons and cost differences of each. Crew members acted professionally and were communicative and hard working. Both design and construction were accomplished during the height of a very busy season. The schedule was revised several times and information was readily provided to us as these revisions arose. The end product is beautiful, effective and already garnering numerous positive comments.

We ended up with a very nice fence for a good price. Installation was delayed several times, but we weren't in a hurry. But, there were serious communication issues between different members of the staff that caused several problems. I was (apologetically) informed at the very last minute when the first crew would be there. They worked quickly and cleanly to remove our old fence and install the new posts, and did everything we asked. We were NOT informed when the next crew was coming to do the framing. I received a call from Fred while I was at work letting me know they had gone with the grade instead of stair stepped, and that it would be fixed. However, the framer had already trimmed down all the posts, including at the gate, where we were supposed to have a trellis. When the next crew came out to finish the fence, I talked to them that morning, and specifically talked about the trellis. He asked if it was going to be ok that the trellis would be that low, since the post was already cut, which was really annoying, as it was their fault that the post was cut down. He also questioned our choice of gate in the back, which was again, annoying. Looked like he was 20 years old. Really, the posts probably should have been ripped out and replaced. When I came home that day, I had a beautiful fence... and no trellis. No explanation or communication about it. Just not there. They had to come back, a few weeks later because of multiple delays, and install a trellis, which had the posts bolted on to the existing post. They had also installed the gate latch on the outside of the gate, which I asked them to fix, since that doesn't make sense, and they forgot to do that. There was one person on the office staff that always knew what was going on and was very helpful. There was another, however, that constantly gave me the wrong information and responded very slowly if at all. The positives: -Great craftsmanship, fence is beautiful and provides full privacy. My neighbor is very happy with it as well. -No money upfront. When the trellis issue came up, the helpful office person told me not to pay the bill until it was fixed -When I was told when the crews would be there, they were punctual, which was great since I was leaving for work late to meet with them. They were willing to meet me rather early to accommodate that. -Fred let me know right away about the framing mistake and made sure it was fixed -The price was very reasonable, lower than other estimates. Despite all the issues, I would hire them again. I don't think my experience was typical, I think I was just unlucky and hit them at a very busy time. I used to work in landscaping, so I understand the issues that arise. In the end, I'm very happy with the fence. I meant to call them in February to beat the rush, but time got away from me. I would recommend getting your estimate well before spring.

The result was good, but sometimes communication was difficult initially when were trying to get the bid and set up the work date.

We were very satisfied with the quality and appearance of the finished product. Any issues that arose during construction were promptly addressed by Fred Martin. He stands behind his work, and goes above and beyond to make sure his customers get what they want. His crew dealt with our tenant and neighbors in a very professional manner.

The fence turned out great

Fred came out and gave me an estimate. He looked at the problem, asked me what kind of solution I wanted, and offered his suggestions/costs. I decided to make the opening 10' and opted for a powder coated latch. Also looked at the broken post on the alley fence. He told me he would get a bid to me in a couple days. (He did) I wanted the fence screwed, not stapled, but Fred was honest with me and said that they staple to save time (he pays employees by the hour, not the job.) I did not object when he explained that they use stainless steel staples, so no rust marks down the line. They are a pretty busy outfit, so we scheduled the job out almost a month. They had to remove PT posts and replace with Metal Posts and custom welded gate frame. In addition, the crew replaced the broken post on the alley and replaced it the same day. The crews were very friendly, competent, and professional. They did good work and left me with a much heavier gate than the one they replaced, and since they used 4" square steel posts for the gate to hang on, I doubt there will be any sagging. I have two more gates that need replacement - I will definitely be calling in F&W Fence to do those replacements.

I got a timely response to my request for estimate; he made an appointment and showed up when expected, asked questions about what type of fence I wanted, told me what to expect for when they could do the job (they were very busy). I received the estimate with full details within the expected time, they answered any questions I had (always quick to respond -- I prefer email to phone calls). I accepted the estimate and they sent me a contract which included when they expected to start the job and when it would be finished. I signed that and they showed up when promised, removed old fence and hauled it away, put in new fence. The gate took a little longer, but they told me about the delay. I have contracted 4 other contractors during this time: one other about the fence, 3 about some roofing repairs. My experience with contractors has not been good: some don't respond to requests for estimates, some don't show up to look at the job, one didn't respond when I accepted the estimate (in that case I accepted the estimate, only later realizing that the estimate was for half the job I specified -- no wonder it came in so low!) F&W Fence CO was courteous, responsive and professional in every step, and a joy to work with.

I left a review before I realized how inadequate the job was. The man that gave me the estimate, I kept telling him that my dog dug under fences. He kept talking about maybe I should have the fence higher. I said, the dog is not jumping over the fence, she's going under the fence. When his guys come out, they put the fence in, the fence didn't even touch the ground. After about four phone calls to him, I finally did get in touch with him. He sent them back out, put it down. I explained to him what was wrong. First time I left here, I had two dogs, when I got back only one of them was in the fence. She went under the fence I don't know how many times. When I'd let her go out to go to the bathroom at 1am or 3am, if I didn't have her on a lead or something, she would go off walk about visiting and show up two hours later. I went and asked my yard man to take 2x6's and put them under the ground a bit and along the fence, she ripped those out. I finally just plain gave up with F&W fence. It never worked. Six times and the time he's here I swear he said, we'll take care of it, we'll fix it and she won't ever get out again. The end of the story wight now, is I just took her today to the Human Society because I cannot have a dog who is running around the neighborhood up and down a busy road. I'm sure there is a way to build a fence. But I had already put out $2000 for a very attractive fence that doesn't work. When they said they would be here, they were here.

The crew arrived at the time agreed upon.  There were two installers and both were fast and efficient.  When they arrived I was at work, but there was someone at the house to greet them.  I didn't get to see to fence until the next day.  I can tell you they did a great job.  The fence is beautiful.  If anyone is looking for  new cedar fence, F&W Fence is the place to go!

Called F&W Fence to provide bid for installing chain link fencing.  Came within a week of contact to do that (he mentioned that work was 6 weeks out).  The fence was installed within 3 weeks (small enough job they could fit me in).  Price was fair and the work was excellent.  I would definitely use F&W Fence again.

I had organized for 6 neighbors and it was a fantastic experince. They do work all over the valley. It is a step up in terms of quality from anything you would see in the neighborhood. It was a little more expensive, but worth it. They had to dig deep holes for the posts, and my yard had 3 gates. The latches were powder coated, and they are nice and lockable. The gate posts were powder coated steel posts and you just don't find that. The number one reason to recommend them would be value. They advertize that you get a lot more for a little more and I agree. They had very good communication and workmanship.

Strong customer service attitude! Constructed a beautiful cedar fence and heavy duty gate. Came back and changed the gate to meet with my desires and treated me respectfully. They had a hard working crew and used quality materials. Will definitely use them again and will recommend them to others!

There were some scheduling and communication issues that were frustrating early on.  Fred made things right and in the end I love my fence.  It was a difficult job because my landscaping wasn't finished but his workers did a great job and with my feedback got the job done right.
I was a bit concerned but Fred is one of those rare contractors who stands behind his word and makes sure the job is done to his high standards and wants satisfied customers.  I have had a run of bad experiences and Fred restored my faith that there are good business owners out there that stand behind their work.

The work was excellent, the fence looks real good, only problem i had in getting my brush out of the way i never knew when they would be here, just showed up.

The install went very well.  The crew was very courteous and provided good information on when we should stain the fence. It was very obvious that this company truly cares about their customers and their happiness.  This was one of the better home-improvement projects that we have done.  Very satisfied and plan to use them again.

I have to say, I was impressed by the quickness of the tear down and install.  I never thought it could be done in just 4 hours but the entire job was completed in that time period.  The workers were helpful and well mannered.  The boss was available to assist by phone if problems arose.  I liked that.  Sometimes workers are sent out and they are left there with you.  If some problem arises, no one knows what to do.  I have had this happen many times but not with this company.

Extremely happy with the quality of the product and the professionalism of the crew.  Several of my neighbors commented on the installation crews kindness,courtsey,and choice of good language (THANKS GUYS!!)  The fence looks great, straight lines, well seated posts, nicely constructed gates and posts strong enough to supports those gates, something we found lacking in several of their competitors quotes.
The crew arrived on the date and time we were given and finished the work right on time.  The property was left clean and tidy, no debris or even small bits of metal laying about which is often seen on a job of this size, very impressive.
We found there prices to be very competive, expecially if you compare the quality of the products used.  I highly recommend this company
My only disappointment is that the 3% Angie's list coupon was not honored but I do accept some responsibility as I did not aggressively pursue the rebate as perhaps I should have.

The project went well.  Schedules were met, punctual.  The workers were polite and efficient.  Price was competitive with other bids.  A good job.  I would recommend them for most any fencing project.
