Scheduling was interesting; we had a voicemail from the company a few days after the purchase informing us when they would be at my home. The company came and serviced my air conditioning unit when I was away. It was general maintenance and I was not home so I was unable to tell what all was done.

On June 4 I purchased a coupon from Angies List for an A/C tuneup, cleaning and inspection.  When I called the following week to schedule an appointment, I got voicemail and left a message. No one called back. A week later I repeated this. The third week I finally talked to someone who told me they were busy with people in emergency situations because of the heat wave and said they would call me back. The entire month of July went by with no return calls. Early August I called again and received an apology and scheduled an appointment for August 16 at 8:30.  That day, when at 9:15 no one had called or arrived, I called again - no answer at the listed number. Finally, at 9:30 the tech called to tell me he had been sick for several days and wasn't going to make it. We rescheduled for the following Friday.  He did keep that appointment and was thorough at explaining what we was doing and what I might need to do in the future to avoid maintenance issues with the A/C. 
In summary, when he finally did arrive he was very professional. However, the business itself is not run very efficiently or professionally. They seem have no one answering phones, no one apparently checks voice mail and returns calls and they don't value customer's time enough to cancel before the fact even when they know they're not going to come. I will not use their services again.

"First of all I would like to say that you purchased a service that was supposed limited to be limited to Salem only. Although you should not have been eligible for this coupon, we felt that the mistake was not yours and we would honor your purchase. Second, there are a few times in life when everything just seems to go wrong at once. This started with our tech developing a staff infection on the "stent" in his carotid artery. Put on the sidelines but his devotion to serving customers and the "strong" medication he was given caused him to believe he could still service his customers. A recent change in telephone service provided the second foul-up as voice-mail messages were not delivered in a timely fashion. This would not have been an issue if the rest of the company had not been working in an area out of cell range. When we did our conference call in the evening to report to each other, no voice mail messages were evident. the home tech felt he would be able to continue his service calls and the rest of us felt we were still on track. The depth of the problem became apparent when the rest of us were informed of the tech hospitalization and at that time we moved to correct the issues. The tech has been "healed", cell phones have been replaced, the ISP provider has been upgraded, and we have resigned Angie's List. These are not excuses, these are the reasons that events happened as they did. We greatly regret that you have had such a bad experience with our company. We have always made customer satisfaction our number one commitment and should you wish to give our company another try we will give you $50. off the price of the service call. Cindy"

During the winter of 2011 my sister in laws furnace went out during a very cold period and Stan responded quickly to put a quick fix on her furnace until he could come out and replace her old furnace with a new one and the fix was only  because he was very busy during that cold spell with a lot of other emergencies.  She was thankful for the quick fix.  Once he came out to replace the furnace she decided to have air condition installed at the same time and Stan and his crew worked with her to get the right unit for the size of her house and then to teach her how to use the new thermostat.  While they were at her house which is just feet from our house we asked about air conditioning for our house and they worked with us to install air conditioning in our house at the same time. The crew were great to work with and they were professional and careful we could not have asked for a better experience. 



We have them come back each year to do maintenance on our air conditioning units. 

This is the only heating and air conditioning company we will contact. 

Stan also does Window installations and siding.

Everything turned out well.  The company was very proactive and called me just a couple of days after I purchased the Big Deal.  They were actually able to come out the same day that they called, and I feel as though they did a thorough inspection considering that my unit is fairly new.  Ultimately, they advised me that aside from needing to replace its filter, the unit had a clean bill of health.

The tech arrived on time, checked all applicable areas of my gas furnace and my electrical air conditioner.  He was very professional and helpful for future filter cleanings (which I can now do).  I really appreciated his assistance and flexibility to do this during the week I was on vacation.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. It was really good, they came out very quickly. The office person called the next day to make the appointment and they were out within a week or 2. I just gave the print out to the technician and he went away.

.Our old heat pump/air conditioner (installed 1992) started a high-pitched whining sound Sunday evening. Called Monday morning at 8:00/A and they sent someone out by 11:00/A (this after weeks of record breaking heat in the Salem area...had figured it would be at least a day or two before getting assistance.) Diagnosis=>failed motor (groan...20 year old unit...panic...how soon could it possibly be replaced...100 degree heat wave coming within 48 hrs...more panic.)  One call and was told they had one in stock (OMG)! Was told on the spot it wouldn't be fixed until 8:00/P (tech in class and work load full) BUT it would be fixed late evening.
Tech called at 8:00/P saying he would be here as soon as he gassed up. Since the machine is so old AND it was the original motor, he patiently struggled with 20 years of rust buildup on motor shaft to remove the blade mechanism, as well as every nut 'n bolt rusted solid. Finally got it all back together with the brand new motor, turned it on and handed us an Invoice that matched the quote from earlier in morning with NO extra charge for extended labor.
This is the third time we have used CHS and we would hands-down recommend them.

These people were sharp, knew their jobs and were commited to doing the job right. The estimate was not the lowest but was competitive. Removal and installation of the units went relatively easily. It helps for the homeowner to do their part by making the job as straight forward as possible for the contractor. In our case we cleaned the attic and cleared the path where the new line set was to go, and cleared and prepared the site for the outside heat pump unit to be located. There were a few hangups during the job. Two return visits were necessary to deal with tripping of circuit breakers, at least one of which was probably due to a faulty breaker. The air filter tray had to be fabricated on site, and proved to be inadequate to keep the filter from being sucked into the unit. Another visit was necessary to fix that, and to adjust it for a filter size that was more readily available. During these complications the CHS staff demonstrated that they were very eager to satisfy the customer and themselves that the job was done right. The only aspect of the job I might have changed in retrospect is that the way the new line set was run to the air handler blocked the panel where the air filter would normally have been located. If they had scoped out the job a little better the line set could have been run closer to a wall and wouldn't have necessitated the extra sheet metal work and extra service call. When choosing a contractor I believe it is more important to select the make of equipment first, then tailor the contractor search to those that handle that model. There are big differences in warranty and reliability data between the different manufacturers. And I believe it is extremely important for the homeowner to be at the house while the job is being performed to head off any potential mistakes and minimize complications. I would definitely use CHS services again.
