I was trying to hire a contractor to help me with a water damage insurance claim. Joshua was recommended to me by another restoration contractor. I spent over an hour with Joshua going over the job. He offered to help and said he would get back with me, which he did (four days later), saying essentially, he couldn't help me. Normally I would write off the time as part of doing business, but I guess as I get older, I am getting more frustrated with time wasters and particularly with contractors and the games they play. My recommendation to contractors is this: When you meet with a prospective client, make a decision in the first half an hour if you can help the the guy or not (30 minutes is plenty of time to get a feel for the job if you have your thinking hat on). If you are getting the feeling that you are not the right one for job, or the job is not to your liking, save yourself and particularly the client's time by politely saying, "Hey, I appreciate what you are trying to do here, but I don't think I am the right man for the job", or something to that effect. Remember, time is money, and when you waste someone's time...well, I think you get my point.
