Great! I couldn't be happier with the experience. The lead time was long, but Andrew was very upfront about how long it would be until the project could be started. Young & Son uses their own employees to do the work instead of random contractors, which is very refreshing. The job was completed earlier than expected, they did a great job of cleaning up and everything looks amazing. While it was expensive, the quality of work and professional experience made it completely worth it! I will absolutely consider Young & Son Woodworks for any future projects.
Description of Work: Baseboards, new interior doors, door and doorway casings, and a new exterior door; they also opened up and cased two openings

We couldn't be happier with the work of Andrew and his crew. They do exceptional work. Andrew & Sons were on our project for over a week, each day they worked diligently and always cleaned up at the end of the day. Very accommodating (we did have some change orders) always curteous and we enjoyed having them on our project. Once again, their work is EXCEPTIONAL - we have a kitchen and great room remodel in the near future and Andrew will be hearing from us.
Description of Work: Installed new front door, 5 new interior doors, including all trim work, trimmed out 6 windows (1 triple, 2 double, 3 single) new baseboards and crown molding in entry, hallway, 2 bedrooms, master suite, master walk-in, master bath.

Description of Work: They built custom counters for our business. They were very punctual and professional. The quality of their work was very good, however the alignment of two of the counter tops was done improperly during the final installation.

First of all, the crew worked in weather that was very very cold! We had wanted the window completed, if possible, before Christmas and they made that happen. Friendly, professional, on time, and clearly experienced. We sought out 3 bids for this job and Andrew was the only professional with a clear idea of how to frame this 1/2 moon window with the resin wood product. We were extremely happy with the end result. Not an easy job according to other professionals we sought out for bids. Beautiful window, efficient and experienced company. Highest ratings.
Description of Work: Andrew and his crew installed jam extensions and trimmed an arch window using a resin wood product. They also fabricated and installed a sill on the exterior of the window to match existing window design. They included priming the sill with our exterior house paint at no extra charge to protect it from the weather. We agreed to stain the interior and exterior to keep the cost within our budget.

Everything went great--Andrew had an opening the week I had contacted him. Showed up on time with another carpenter and they worked all day to get everything back in place. I was very happy with the results and would highly recommend him.
Description of Work: Reinstalled existing cabinets, cut down built-in desk to fit new space, installed new laminate top.

For reasons not related to Young and Son, we chose to postpone our renovations. We will contact them again when we are ready to start.
Description of Work: Andrew came to our home to discuss extensive renovation projects we are planning, offered design assistance, and invited us to meet with him and a vendor he works with to review samples and continue the discussion in more detail. Patient, helpful, friendly, and competent.

They are true craftsmen. They replied very promptly to a call for an estimate. Listened to what I wanted and gave me a beautiful new staircase and bannister. I was amazed at the fine detail of the trim and impressed with the craftsman type posts they created instead of using pre-made posts for the banisters. They were very good about keeping the work area clean at all times, vacuuming as they went along. I will definitely call them for any future remodeling. One of the most important things is that they are very nice people, and very good natured about putting up with my two little dogs, especially the suspicious one, that they took the time to win him over and let him nose around when he wanted to see what they were doing. Overall, great contractors. The only reason that I gave them a B on price is because I could have probably paid less, but I probably wouldn't have gotten the quality of work. So I'm not sure if they deserve a B, probably an A.
Description of Work: They tore down and completely rebuilt our staircase and bannister.

These guys are the best and we will call them first for any project in the future. Out of all the people we brought in to work on our basement remodel they by far were the most professional. I wish I would have found them at the beginning of the project. Mr. Young first met with us at the house and talked with us about what we thought we wanted. We did our basement remodel without written plans. He then met with my wife on a Saturday at McCoy Millwork so that they could look at different options for things like the type of wood, balusters and columns. He gave us some suggestions and educated us so that we ended up making some very good decisions. By the following Monday they had written plans and a proposal for us to accept. They worked exactly to the schedule that was promised and finished on time. They even helped us with some odd jobs that were not their responsibility that had to be done in order to finish on time. Mr. Young and his son Andrew are very pleasant and we were very comfortable when they were at the house. They were accommodating of our 2 year old, 4 year old and dog. Every time they left for the day, the project site was clean and safe. The end result is beautiful. It is was money well spent and we were pleased with the whole experience. Anyone can call me for more of a reference. Clayton 503-756-2009.
Description of Work: We had Young and Son build a hardwood staircase as part of a basement remodel where we were acting as our own general contractor. Besides painting this was the last phase of the project. The stairway project included taking out the old stairs and building a whole new stairway from the stringers to adding finishing touches like a beautiful column at the bottom of the stairs.

Young and Son worked closely with us to design a new staircase within our budget. They carefully prepared the site, including moving the piano out of the way, putting down temporary floorcovers, and hanging sheeting to control dust. The old stairs had to be completely removed and new stairs constructed. As the staircase is the only access to the bedrooms, we were concerned about how much time it would be out of commission. They managed to do the work such that we only had one day without access by stairs, and they installed a temporary ladder to cover that day. They did a beautiful job with the finish carpentry, e.g., handrails, bannisters, molding. They helped with carpet selection, and found a much better price for the carpet we wanted than their usual supplier quoted. They readily corrected a problem that showed up only after the carpeting was installed. Cleanup was very thorough. Because this project tore up the center of the house, one of the things we appreciated most was that they were on the job virtually every single day until the project was done. We never felt that we had anything less than their full attention. We have worked with Young and Son before, on a bathroom remodel and small deck rebuild. They prepare a fixed fee for the work in advance; any increase would be for additions we request or unexpected problems discovered during construction. They are very nice people to be around, which is great considering how long they are part of your life!
Description of Work: Remodel our ugly, 70s-style staircase, which is a major architectural feature of the house. Demolition of old staircase and railings. Realignment and construction of new staircase. Construction of new half walls and railing/bannisters. Installation of new lighting fixtures. Painting and carpeting installation.

The result is absolutely gorgeous! Young and Son kept the project on schedule and on budget. They customized several aspects of the project including the mantel design and cozy window seat. Young and Son were very professional throughout the project - calling ahead before visits, arriving when scheduled. It is clear that they are very knowledgeable with regard to their carpentry and installation. Finally, Young and Son were very personable and enjoyable to work with.
Description of Work: Our 1922 Portland Bungalow suffered from a 1960's remodel that removed all original windows and trim and left us with the world's ugliest fireplace mantel complete with a wall of wood paneling. Young and son worked with us to restore the living room and dining room to their original beauty. They constructed a mantel with bookcases and a window seat with built in storage.
