The job was done perfectly. The man was professional . He was running late from a previous job, but stayed in touch with me and checked to makle sure a later time would work.
Response from Window Guy PDX
"Thank you so much! That was a short and sweet report for a very minimal job. My what a busy day that was! I thought our first job might have 8 windows from the way they made it sound. Turned out it was 80 and over 25 miles away in rush hour traffic!!! Whoops! But I zipped right along. Lonnnnnggggg day tho'. But you sure did make it an enjoyable one. And you were exactly on the route home. You were gracious and a delight to serve. I hope you enjoyed you time with your guests. It was a pleasure spiffing things up for their arrival. That's why I added the entryway in at no extra cost. Enjoy your summer. Again, thank for taking the time to let others know of our top-notch efforts to provide our services."

Thorough and spotless.
Response from Window Guy PDX
""Thorough and spotless?" Nice! Well,... thank you for that. We certainly give it our best. I'm glad it's obvious. But I am a bit baffled at the "Bs". I am not sure what we did not respond to 100%. That concerns me. B work is not good enough for me. We do our best to meet EVERY obligation. As far as pricing, when cost comparing, we normally (95% of the time get the call back to schedule). I have seen with my own eyes how much more comprehensive we are than many in the length of detail and quality in our work. I work to give the highest value for your expenditure. Your patronage of our services is neither taken for granted, nor diminished in any detail. Thank you for your kind report and feel free to express any concerns at any time. We will indeed response as best we can."

Chris and his son were running a little late but were great about letting me know when they could arrive.  They were very professional and did a great job.  After they had left however; we found several dirty rags laying around the house and outside, and my wife found a razor blade on an inside window sill.  Not good with a 3 year old running around.  They did an excellent job cleaning the windows though.
Response from Window Guy PDX
"Thank you, thank you! That answers that dilemma! Ohhhhh dear, I am chastened! I just KNEW that had happened. And I know exactly where I left it now that you affirm it true. I left wondering if I had dropped the razor in my bucket. Having grandchildren this age I totally understand your concern. We normally review the job with the customer when finished to make sure mistakes like that DON'T get made, but we were in too big a hurry that day. I had four places to be. Much too overloaded for one day. You have chastened me to never be in too big of a hurry. But to be fair, I RARELY put myself in that spot. I do know better. Rags will and do fall off my belt or shoulder at times, but as I said, usually a "once over" locates all the missing parts and pieces. So, I extend my apologies to my being less than complete in this instance. That is not our norm as the majority of our reports reflect. Thank you so much for your review and your words will be taken with the greatest weight toward our future endeavors."

It went well. The job took longer than I had expected, but that was because of the thoroughness applied.
Response from Window Guy PDX
"Well, thank you! We always appreciate the great feedback we receive. It's our "bread and butter" and it's one of the nicest things an Angieslist customer can do for a reputable service provider. We love it! Be assured Window Guy PDX is dedicated to providing the best prices for the level of value and quality we provide. And we DO take our time to do the job right,... every time. So when you compare prices with some other window services, I've actually found we are either aIways comparable, or even slightly less. That surprises even me at times. Especially when I hear how we put so much more effort into our work. We are thorough! But when Angieslist customers shop for quotes, I'd say we get better than a 95% return call back to schedule. So, I never worry about that. My theory is "You get what you pay for!" So, if you pay expecting the best,... I'll certainly delivery the best! I was so pleased how nicely your windows turned out. They looked GREAT! I'm glad you are enjoying them and thank you again for using our services AND giving us a great review."

Had one helper with him and they were very detailed in their cleaning.

"Well hey there! From so long ago? Thaaaannnkkk YOU! Your feedback is ALWAYS appreciated. You noticed we did the mirrors? Makes a difference, huh? If I see anything that needs work we will usually try to spiff it up. We always go that extra mile or two. That's what makes our service extraordinary... Take NOTICE! To any one reading this, I am going to offer a special deal for the rest late winter and early spring. If you can get two other friends or families to get their windows cleaned BEFORE March 31st, I WILL GIVE EACH OF YOU 25 % off normal rates. This is a ONE TIME ONLY OFFER. It went very well.  Chris is easy to work with and really knows how to do the job.  He showed up when he said he would, the work took as long as he said, and at the price he quoted. There was some additional cleaning that was needed to take care of old residue that was left by corrosion from old steel screens that were on the house years ago, but he did a good job of explaining why the residue was there and how he would clean it off.  It involved some extra expense, but he was clear in explaining why that was appropriate.
Response from Window Guy PDX
"Thank you very kindly. It was a REAL pleasure to work for you. I enjoyed our conversations on the Portland water supply. You answered questions I had long wondered about. I am better armed and educated for my work because of it. I understand about the causes of mineralization on glass much better now that I know exactly what it is. Who would have imagined! As for your windows, yes, we dealt with the iron oxide patina that had built up from the old steel screens and they looked SO much better. You were very kind and I enjoyed your hospitality and after work convo on the porch. Again, thank you so much."

Chris did a great job! He gave me an estimate over the phone, and though the price was actually higher, based in the number of windows he had to clean, he honored the price originally quoted... He worked around the other workers I had there as I was getting ready for a party and was amiable, professional & timely in his work. I would absolutely hire him again.
Response from Window Guy PDX
"Hey, thank you! It was really totally fun meeting you and your sister. It was great! What a BEAUTIFUL place you have! I enjoyed getting you shaped up for the party, it even felt festive while there. I'll be honest here tho'. I am a bit curious about the B for quality however. I set very highest standards for myself and am of course disappointed to see I didn't make that grade for you. If at ANYTIME my work is not up to par, "A+ quality" for whatever reason I can muster, PLEASE first feel free to let me know right away so I might make it right at you nearest convenience. You pay for the highest level of service you can get from me. It is my duty and obligation to provide and I take that MOST seriously. You were not there to review my completion before I left, and the first floor locked up after I finished the insides, so I am really bewildered what I might have left less than perfect. I apologize if something were less than your expectation. Never the less, thank you for your great review. ; )"

Before Chris came, looking through our windows was like looking at an  old standard-definition TV.  Afterward, it was like high definition.  It was quite a contrast.  In addition to cleaning the windows (in and  out), Chris also cleaned out a couple of gutters (without even being  asked) and also did a great job of repairing a window and storm window that had been broken for years.
Response from Window Guy PDX
"Hey guys! Thank for your great report. I love your HD comment. Yes, it made a BIG difference on your house. The final results were spectacular. I'm not sure you knew we pressure washed the entire porch too. Top to bottom. It needed it just to freshen things up a bit. I really get tickled when we do a job that comes out so good. Everyone notices it, but can't pinpoint what it is. A lot of neighbors ask if the house was new painted, not realizing it's the WINDOWS that are sparkling clean. But you got the benefit of your new HD vision to the outside world. And yep, that was a tuffy, but you guys were fun and enjoyable to work for. We appreciated it. Again thanks for your kind report. Such a thing makes a world of difference for us. These reports are our "bread and butter"."

First, it was easy to schedule an appointment with Chris Hall and he came promptly on time. He gave me an estimate that I accepted and started the cleaning process. He was very professional and completed the job in about an hour, leaving everything tidy.
Chris did an excellent cleaning job and removed silicon stains and other window dirt. The windows looked great after the work was completed.
I was so pleased with the work done that I will recommend Chris to our neighbors and friends. We will also have his services on a regular basis in the future.
Response from Window Guy PDX
"Oh my! Thank you! I sure did enjoy being there. You are both so very kind. There was a bit of work to do on your windows. The previous interior painting and restoration had left paint sprickles and silicon smeared over the glass. Made quite a difference once we got that off. After that, the rest was easy. Enjoy the views... and thanks again!"

My call to Window Guy PDX was promptly answered, and the company was able to come out within a week which was great because I had forgotten to book earlier and we have company coming, so I was very happy to be accommodated.  I am as completely satisfied with the service this year as I was last.  My windows look great inside and out, and the price for the services provided was very competitive.  If you are looking for prompt, courteous and great service for your window cleaning needs, call Window Guy PDX.

"Ohhhh thank you so much. People like you make my profession SOOOO worthwhile. I love what I do, meeting the people, learning new things and getting a chance to visit and catch up with regular customers. This is what makes it great. I am so thankful for those who can recognize and enjoy my hard work. You can always note the difference in how people respond. Most are so kind and considerate. They acknowledge your presence, your effort, offer you a glass of water, and are appreciative of your struggle for the best one can give. You and your husband are this kind of people and it my absolute DELIGHT to serve you. As a side note, I want to make a serious point to any future client reading this: For nearly four decades, I have had the most WONDERFUL clientele in the whole world. I can honestly say I adore 99% of you and will typically remember you with gracious attention the second time you call, BUT,... I have ALSO had a very few clients over the last two years who have been so disagreeable and contentious, that it takes all the enjoyment out my work. It's very discouraging when generally unhappy, or shall we say, "emotionally complex" people can and WILL find fault with everything you do. There is no pleasing some people, no matter how much effort you put into something. Unfortunately, Angieslist screens poor workmanship from your end, but it does nothing to prevent we workmen from getting the occasional overly-critical or previously burnt customer who is argumentative, suspicious and critical of everything you do, or say. That's hard to handle! To me, life and work is about much more than money. It's about personal enjoyment and satisfaction. I'd rather walk away and avoid taking on any tense, or contrary clients, so, if should you consider hiring me to do a job for you, consider this,... if at ANY stage of our business relationship, if you have ANY DOUBT of my desire to give you 100% of my effort, please, feel free to stop and choose another company. I am a happy man. It may sound silly, but my life is full of sunshine and joy. I have so many things to be thankful for. I want it to stay that way. I would genuinely prefer to stay away from any negative people who are so embittered by things or begrudging, I can't even IMAGINE why. For 36 years I have given the best of my ability and my standard is high. I can't IMAGINE ever doing anything LESS than that, TO THE BEST OF MY ABILITY and within reasonable time constraints based upon the estimate I give. I don't work for free after all. Thank you for reading and the best of life to all of us."

I have never used Chris before,  but another provider couldn't give us a soon-enough date for service, so I called Window Guy PDX.  He was able to fit us in within a week.  He called when he was going to be a few minutes late -- but his two assistants were already here and used the time to look around the house and yard and formulate a plan.  I think it took them about 3.5 hours to do the whole job.  All three were very easy to have around.   We are the Clutter King and Queen and they good-naturedly worked around everything.  Chris also replaced a screen which had been in the closet for years.  It was a little bit bent but he got it to go back into place just fine.  I would definitely hire Chris and his nice crew again.

"Thank you ever so much. We were so glad to be there. It wasn't a problem at all and everyone talked about how kind you both were when we left. We hope you had a marvelous and meaningful 36th Anniversary and we were happy to shine things up for you. Thank you for your call the next day. On a side note, just so my Angie's List customers know: My sincerest apologies to anyone affected by our DMV confusion the last two weeks: We were having such a bad time with work vehicles the last two weeks (turns out my work truck had a VIN# the DMV didn't check properly and after two hours at the DMV, it turns out they copied the last 4 digits wrong. Needless to say, I haven't been able to use my normal work truck till this gets straightened out and that threw my schedule into mayhem. I bought a cheap, older truck to get by on and it's been giving me some intermittant mechanical problems. But it looks like I may have finally gotten that fixed. Fingers crossed! Sooooo,... we still chug along doing the same superior work we have for 36 ( WOW, since 1976! ) years now, but it has been so stressful. I know DID miss calling two clients about rescheduling their appointments because of this, their phone numbers to contact them wasn't on their work sheets. If that happened to you, so sorry for that. My mistake. I will be coming by your house to offer my apologies in person. The problem was, I can't copy the phone number on the work sheet till the call ends, and if another call come in immediately, I sometimes forget. If this affected you in any deleterious way, PLEASE,... my sincerest apologies. Please keep the faith with us, we'll ALWAYS make it right where we can. Thousands of customers can't be wrong. If we weren't the best we can be, we wouldn't be here after all these years and with all these Angie's List Awards. So, if EVER I do NOT call you within 15 minutes AFTER my appointed time of arrival, something is wrong. Please be so kind as to call me. It's certain I am missing a contact number. Otherwise, I ALWAYS call BEFOREHAND when I know there is a problem or delay, which of course is inevitable at times... Don't assume we have blown off the appointment. We don't do that. Thanks for reading this."

Because of recent heavy rains and clogged gutters I called Chris on short notice to clean our gutters. He offered to come the next day but we agreed on an appointment three days later. He called to let me know he would be late. When he arrived he evaluated what needed to be done and we discussed whether only the downspout traps needed to be cleaned or all the gutters. Eventually because of all the recent debris from our many conifers we agreed to a complete cleaning. He spent two hours and everything was done well with all hoses put away and debris cleaned up. We have used Chris on many occasions he will always do a good job.

I hesitate to write a review as this guy seems to respond to every review and if it's less than an A he writes a full page. But here goes.

The nice stuff.   He is a very nice fellow.  He communicates very well.  He is polite and considerate.  His price was very competitive and about 25% less than the other company we were considering.  The final job was ok and the most of the windows are clean.

So why the B and not and A?

He said that he would do it in a day.  He said he would be here at 10AM.  Then we got like 3 calls in the morning explaining all the things that were not going well and why he would be late.  He shows up at about 1130 with his daughter.  She is very nice as well.  He says that his other helper did not show.  They do the inside of the house and there is non-stop talking between the two of them.  This is fine but i keep looking at my watch and wondering how they are going to finish.  He does a lot of moaning and groaning while he is working like he is getting too old for this.  At 3pm they call it quits as it will get dark soon????    Hmmmm.... shows up late and leaves early.  Not a good sign.

He says that he will be back at 10am the next day to finish.  So 10am goes by and no contractor.  At 1030 i call him and he is on his way and will be there in a couple minutes.  He calls again at 1100.  Oops... he went to the wrong house.  I tell him that the windows have to be done because the storm window installers are coming tomorrow.  He says no problem.  Note that we wanted to clean the windows a week earlier but he suggesting doing it right before the storm windows.

In response to providers response:

I don't know wher is 17 hrs comes from. He was working in our house 2 days before the storm window guys came and I called him a couple days before he showed up???

As for the humidifier...... We could see all the smears he left. While he was working. We brought it to his attention and he said that he would take care of it so it did not hide anything.

As the oxidation.... I don't know what he was talking about. He never mentioned oxidation to us. In fact at one point I told him that he did not have to scrape the paint because it was consuming too much of his time. But he insisted doing it.

Finally, he said that he would be back the next morning to fix all of the dirty spots we mentioned. And he never showed up.

Now he is just with himself, no helpers.  He works straight through the day.  But he does not finish till its nearly dark outside making it difficult for us to inspect the work.  I point our several places that are not cleaned.  At one point he said "So do you want me to clean that"?   I could not believe he asked me that.   He also said the he totally missed some spots.  He said that he would  come out this morning to clean them.  When we said that the Storm window guys were coming at 10am,  there was this long pause like 10am was way too early for him (and I can believe that based on his previous arrival times).  I am guessing that he will not be here before the storm window guys arrive.

What he does not realize is that we canceled plans to be at the house when he is supposed to be there.   We had plans for the second day and cancelled them because he took a day longer.  The windows are mostly clean.  There are still some spots or streaks on about 20% of the windows that we could not see because he finished so late or that we told him about and he could not clean because it was too dark.  I have been rubbing them out (successfully) today with paper towels.

We have been doing a lot of contractor work on our home since we bought it this fall.   Some of the work was outstanding and I would recommend their work to anyone and would use again.   The window cleaning guy did an ok job and I would probably not recommend him to others.

Update.... 2 years later.   We pulled the storm windows down to clean the windows.  This time we did it.  It did not take nearly as long as this guy took.  But in the process of cleaning the windows we noticed EVERY window was scratched on the edges of each window.  That is every window in the house is that way now.  The majority of these windows are from 1925 so even if we wanted to go through the expense of replacing each window we cant get that kind of glass anymore.  I did not take pictures before so I cannot prove that he did this but neither my wife or I noticed it before and he did not mention it when cleaning.   So just beware,

Chris arrived and immediately took a tour of the house to see what the job involved.  They cleaned all the windows for both sides and I am amazed at the difference.  We had no idea how dirty they had become.  I am very glad I waited to call Chris until the rains had stopped.  I was very glad that he knew about old houses and appreciated ours and all of its idiosyncrasies.  Chris is a very nice man, and I cannot imagine calling anyone else when our windows need cleaning again.

"Oh thank you! I certainly did my best for you. And they did shine once done properly. The power washing you had done left lots of particulate matter stuck on hard. But I got them back to where they should be. And they should stay like that quite awhile. Bright and clear. Enjoy! You two were so great! I felt such a tremendous affinity for both of you. I have to say in the short time I had there, I came to admire you both greatly. Your zeal and zest are uncommon. Your appreciation of the subtle, remarkable. Chris was easy to work with.  I really appreciate that he offered  to reschedule so that the work could be done in the right order; gutters first, then windows.  Chris and Carlos worked hard and the results are amazing.  We have been in the house two years and I'm not sure when the gutters and windows were last cleaned by the prior owners.  What a difference!

Honestly, all 52 window have never looked better.  Now they actually sparkle from the street. He worked hard to get all the glass panes to look good.  I highly recommend Chris and would definitely use him again.   Turns out Chris has been a professionally-trained chef and he also gave my 14 year old daughter some cooking tips for the mushrooms she was preparing for dinner while he was here.  The mushrooms turned out great by the way!  Keep up the good work.
Response from Window Guy PDX
"Now that made my day! Thank you! I put such extraordinary care into my work that when someone recognizes that, it's like a whole other world of happiness for me. Recently, it was made very clear to me how different my standards are when compared to some window cleaning services. Seems I really put out nearly twice the effort and the results stand clear. I don't just wash the window, I restore it to it's pristine, transparent, crisp look. That takes me extra time,... but the results! And it lasts a lot longer when done properly. My satisfied clients are a joy to me. To awaken and spend the day solving window related problems no other had been able to is very gratifying. I thank each and everyone of you who has believed in me and offered such marvelous reports. The opportunity to serve you and make a difference in my small way has been beyond meaningful. Thanks! To all! As far a being a Chef, yep,... I was trained by some of the best. Only one degree of separation from the likes of such noted stars as Paul Bocuse and Pierre Chambran. It's always fun to improve the technique of the aspiring cooks with practical experience. Each small change alters the results considerably. For example, for crispy sauteed mushrooms, don't stir them about the pan when cooking in butter or oil. Stirring "sweats" the mushrooms, making them wet and chewy rather than absorbing the butter flavor and giving them crispy crust. Your daughter is a natural. Apt and willing to learn. It was fun. Again thanks for taking the time for your generous report and "tip". I am so pleased you are enjoying the fruit of my labors. Thanks"

Chris did an excellent job on our windows.  They were a real challenge, some of them put in backwards, mold, mineral deposits.   Chris used a special cream to remove the minerals and made the windows look better than they ever looked before.  He aslo replaced a broken window that was badly cracked with a new pane of glass at a very low price.  He was friendly and personable.  I have recommended him to a friend based on the wonderful job he did for us and she was also very pleased.

During the two business weeks it took him to complete he would show up for a few hours here and there complaining that other clients asked him back as they were unhappy.  He would complain and ramble on for about 20 minutes each day until I would excuse myself.  EACH day he would take to my powder room off the kitchen before beginning windows and do his "business" smelling up the entire house. I was shocked he did not do this en route but save it for my home. It was disgusting.   Due to previous thefts in my home I followed him from room to room while he did interior work, he would take his smart phone and charge in every room.  He never quit talking even trying to share some video from his smart phone and I had to tell him to please just finish the windows.  He was exhausting me.  I have been working with contractors for over 20 years.  Some confuse my laid back and kind nature for weakness and friendship and forget about being professional, Chris did.  I should mention at this time his name is not really Chris, it is Cevan and I am not sure why he represents himself with the name Chris. I found that confusing.   He did not complete the job, not only did he miss 2 windows above the garage due to my car having a dead battery in the drive, he missed the most obvious, my new glass front door and the two large windows on each side of it.  I found major damage to a picture window in the breakfast room and he was leaving.  He agreed he would replace it and finish the other windows upon rescheduling.   I contacted after the holidays several times as I found more property damage and he ignored my calls. At this time I contacted my general contractor to meet with him here and look at the damage with him. I have all the emails documenting the attempts from my contractor to get Cevon here to make repairs and complete the job. The damage was consistent with the same vertical scratches on the picture window but to a new thermal paned glass French door. New. He also cleans with steel wool and left 2 pieces inside my home on furnishings but 3 pieces on the exterior of my home, one of which was left on a new balastrade leaving unremovable rust staining.  I have photos of all damages to my property.   In an email I have I asked my contractor to meet with him and stated I was uncomfortable being alone with him.  They met at my home to go over newly discovered property damage and at that time told Cevon to work on a resolution with my contractor and I would no longer be handling the situation.  He ranted on and on repeating himself and as I turned my back to him stating "please don't talk to me about it, this is between you and my contractor"  he grabbed me by my shoulder from behind. My contractor walked in exactly at that moment when I jumped with my hands in the air, it was frightening. I am 5'3" and Cevan is 6'5". In 20 years of working with hundreds of contractors it is an unwritten rule that you NEVER under any circumstances touch a client. This was during a verbal dispute and from behind.  I knew why I had a witness there that day. My general contractor was shocked at what he witnessed.   What transpired after that is described to me through emails I have from my General contractor and goes as such...   On February 7th I emailed general contractor stating that Cevan was ignoring me and could he handle and schedule him from this point on   On Feb 8th My GC emailed me that he spoke with Cevan who told him he wasn't available. My GC says in email that he made it clear to Cevan that he will make good on damages and that the GC will be handling this from here on out.   On February 24th they were scheduled to meet here and on the 23rd I rec'd an email from the contractor warning of snow on the 24th, I replied on the 23rd stating my fear of being alone with Cevan. He emailed me back not to worry, he would reschedule with Cevan   On February 24th the two rescheduled due to snow storm.   On March 1st my GC e mailed me saying he had another call into Cevan and was waiting to hear from him. He did not hear back.   On March 5th My GC emailed me and promised to call him again on the 6th   On March 8 Cevan finally took a call from my GC and said he was working a commercial job in Beaverton. My GC he would schedule him to come out when my GC was going to be here installing cabinets, he also said he wanted to bring something by to try and remove rust stains from Cevan's steel wool left on my white stone balastrades.   Cevan continued to ignore  the GC's numerous attempts and on March 15th he emailed me that he will demand Cevan be there the following week. He also said that he told Cevan at that time that I would take him to court if he did not rectify the property damage, that I was serious about this situation.   General contactor never reached him again, I finally sent a text stating that I didn't want to take this to small claims court but I would and what I rec'd in return were some very unprofessional replies. He called my GC "your man" offensive as I am close friends with my GC and his lovely wife. He told me I had issues? I was pretty shook up and immediately called Angie's List.   I think he has made some unfortunate choices in his response to a resolution. I have lovingly been restoring this home for over 7 years and joke with every contractor "they will have to take me out feet first!" regarding all the money spent, blood, sweat and tears I put into the place when asked about resale. No one has ever misconstrued that as a suicide threat.    I suggest highly you get a contract with start and completion dates for anyone working in your home, I made the mistake of not doing so and also paid in full with a verbal agreement he would repair the damage he caused. I lost on both counts and the physical and verbal assault has caused me much stress.
