We purchased a wooden door through Truax and wound up with a $2000 DIY project. Much to our surprise, they installed an unfinished door and we are now spending a week applying the various coats of stains and finishing coats to make it ready for Portland weather. When we let them know the process wasn't clear to us and we hadn't expected this last phase in the process, they brushed off our feedback and said they "only do unfinished wood doors" and we should have known.

I was doing the job for a elderly 81 year old man. I did a phone order for a window seal. Our small town does not have this type of seal. I expected the item in a sort time as it was a stock item. I paid in full. Now over 8 days and no delivery. I called and the gut said he would call back with information. He never did. I was totally dissatisfied with the service and follow through. Never again.

We had a fantastic experience with Truax. Steve and Greg were easy to work with on the front end. We got four quotes and Truax's was competitive. Truax agreed to deliver the doors to us early so we could paint them ourselves ahead of the installation in order to keep costs down, which was not possible with the other contractors. Jason showed up on time to install the doors and was meticulous in his attention to detail. When we asked a week later whether one of the doors could be adjusted to close a bit tighter, Truax inspected and Jason returned to make the adjustment without any questions. We highly recommend Truax!

It is holding out very good. They build some of their own windows and they have good installers.

I dropped off a window screen that was bent causing bugs to get in my house when the window was opened.  They recommended replacing the entire screen which I did.  I was surprised how reasonable the price was.  My new screen keeps out every but now!

These guys have great customer service! Tami was very helpful in helping me choose the doors. She patiently answered my questions over multiple discussions until I made a decision. I was concerned we had dry rot as our back door had been leaking for a while. When Jason came over to install the doors he was very diligent about ensuring there was no dry rot, and installing a nice leak-proof back door.
We replaced our old weathered front door with a beautiful new one - gives the house a whole new look! Jason did a great job installing both doors, and led us on a nice final inspection before he left.  We are very happy with Truax and both of our new doors!

Really good.  We were very pleased with our new door.  Truax employees were very responsive on getting quoted information and having the door completed in the timeline they said they would.

They came out and measured, we picked out a design, Truax gave us a price, they built it (took about a week less time than we expected, they installed. Had one little problem with latch, they immediately sent someone out to attend to it. The door was expensive but worth every penny. Would recommend them highly.

Dan, the salesman, talked with us about different types of doors without pressuring us or trying to sell us things we didn't need. We checked out another place, but went back to Truax.
Jason, the installer, came a few minutes earlier than scheduled, which was great! He was here about nine hours. He removed and hauled away our old doors and installed two new, Craftsman-style doors, which included new jambs, molding and thresholds. He installed the dookrknobs and deadbolt locks we had bought (which aren't included in the door itself). Installing our back door necessitated removing our one of our security doors first. Jason also removed our unusually-shaped wood molding from around our back door and used it as a template to cut new molding which he then installed.
During the removal process, Jason sealed off the area to keep lead dust out of the house. He was pleasant and easy to work with. Our old house took awhile to work on, as he had to do things like creating shims to cause things to be even and level. When he was finished, we could hardly tell he?d had to go to so much trouble; they looked so good! After installing everything, Jason took the time to demonstrate to us some of the features of the new doors, as well as talk to us about how to sand and caulk them. Before he left, Jason quickly adjusted our other security door which wasn?t directly related to the project he worked on. (It had been sticking after we had a new foundation put in.) We received a discount for the installation by having two doors installed on the same visit.

I loved working with Truax. It has been several years since I used them, but they left an impression.
They were very helpful in helping me select the best value windows. When they installed 2 windows they discovered a slight scratch on the windows and worked with me to get some money back from the manufacturer as it was their issue.
It has been several years since they did the work, and it has stood up to the test of time.
I would never go anywhere else.

I purchased new fiberglass Thermatru front doors and a half-lite basement door from Truax through my contractor. Leading up to the purchase, they were very obliging and helpful in finding glass samples. However, they told me the doors would arrive in about five business days after placing the order. After Truax placed the order, the door company let them know it would be a 10-business-day turn around, yet Truax didn't call the contractor or me (the customer) to let us know the delay. When I approached Truax, they simply said they did all they could do and had followed all normal procedures. I like businesses to deliver on time, and this was unacceptable to me, especially since the business took no responsibility and made me feel like it was my fault or my contractor's fault. The products they provide and the showroom are great, but as a customer you'll just need to call them a lot to ask about turn around, and expect delays.
Response from Truax Builders Supply Inc
"I’m sorry that we didn’t keep this member fully informed about the lead time for her doors, but our sales person was not informed that she was in a hurry for them. We told her that the normal lead time was approximately five working days from the date the order was placed, which was the best information we had. Our salesperson worked with her and helped her in her choice of doors and door glass, and when the selection process was complete she called her contractor (our customer) to confirm the order, and to verify some specific dimensions. The contractor did not return her call for two days with the information. Tami immediately placed the order, and eventually received a confirmation from our supplier indicating an eight working day lead time due to the type of glass selected (which was not in stock). This was only a few days longer than originally stated, so she did not call the contractor. Once she was called by the client and informed of her need for haste, she did all she could to try to expedite the order, but since the glass was a non-stock item, the lead time could only be shortened by one day. As soon as the doors arrived at our facility our salesperson called her contractor to let them know the doors had arrived. He came in the next day and picked them up. Again, I apologize for the failure on our part to keep Evelyn informed of the extended lead time."

They were very helpful in assisting me in picking an appropriate style for my front door.  The door took approx. two weeks to fabricate.  The were consistently friendly, helpful and knowledgeable, including the installer.  The Installer worked quickly and carefully.  He brought both the style and finish for the handle hardware that I had requested, but also a matching alternative style that he thought worked better.  I agreed with his suggestion, and am very happy with the door.

Truax built for us a custom wooden screen door for our front entry and they installed it.  Because of the design of our front door and door jamb, it was necessary for them to also build out the door jamb before they could install the screen door.  Once scheduled, they came and took detailed measurements and brought wood samples from which to pick.  We described the door design that we wanted.  The screen was then finished within 1 week and then Truax delivered to and picked up from an independent company that stained and applied finish to the door and trim pieces.  Once the finish was applied, they installed the door right away.  It is beautiful and we are thrilled with the look and quality.  Their price was very competitive.

Everyone was very easy to work with.  I got an initial estimate based on my own rough measurements.  Then when I decided to have Truax do the installation they came out and got exact measurements.  At the time of installation a few weeks later two of the storm windows were not the correct size, so they re-made them and had them installed within a few weeks at no extra cost.  My house was quieter and warmer right away and my windows no longer rattle during heavy winds.  I am really happy with the performance of the windows and have found the screens easy to adjust.  I choose the bronze colored aluminum and they match the dark brown trim on my house very well.

Jason arrived on schedule and began to install the new door and frame after a warm, sincere hello and a comment that he could see no real problem. Going out occasionally to offer what help I could, I couldn't help but notice the steady, meticulous, careful kind of work he was doing. thorough and efficient, in depth, precise and careful. Towards the end of the job, he would do little extra things that an ordinary workman would bypass. He worked as if he were putting a door in his own home. Our new door is beautiful, tight as a drum and solid top to bottom. We're very pleased. We'll happily go back to Truax for any future needs!
