Thomas Hovland Home Maintenance

As usual, Tom was punctual, friendly and reasonably priced.. He did a good job. We have used him on a number of projects and would use him again.

As always with Tom, it went well.

They were on time and cleaned up well. No complaints. I am amazed how expensive it is - but their price was competitive.

As always, Tom was on time, courteous and did his work expeditiously.  He is our handyman of choice.

The sinks look great, and I have since located the necessary parts to repair my sprinkler system. Thomas is friendly and knowledgeable, and his availability seems better than many of his competitors.

I called him to help us finish some projects around our home in preparation for selling our home. He was quick to give a bid and came on short notice, which I appreciated. Based on the ratings from others, I expected him to work somewhat independently after I gave him a list of items to fix. He came and did a few things, started several projects then needed some materials so I went to get them but he had to leave early so he was unable to complete most projects and left before I returned. His bill was what he estimated to complete the projects or for one full day. He did neither so ultimately we negotiated a lesser payment. He handled it professionally but I was disappointed that I had to go find someone to complete the projects I paid him to do.

Mr. Hovland told me that he could handle certain jobs that he ended up not being able to do, so he came out for a 15 minute job and wasn't able to complete the other jobs on the list.

Thomas installed a sophisticated electronic thermostat. It did not work when he first installed it, so he called the manufacturer's 800 number and worked with them until he got it working right, which impressed me. He is more expensive than most handyman, but an advantage of this is that he is relatively available to work with you on short notice and to fit into your schedule.

Didn't finish the job first day, so charged me for coming back to finish. Strange.

Thomas arrived on time, and after a quick orientation to our list of things to do, he went right to work, following our prioritized list.  He knew what he was doing, and worked continuously for 4.5 hours to complete the things on my list.  The work was professional, and Thomas was very nice.   You can see the list of tasks is rather all-encompassing, and Thomas was very knowledgeable and skilled in doing this variety of work.  I would definitely call him again, and recommend him to you.

We bought a replacement for our cracked bathroom sink, but the old sink was so heavily caulked  that we couldn't remove it ourselves.  Mr. Hovland came in with proper tools and got the job done in about an hour.
The one thing we didn't plan well enough was having additional needed work lined up to fill the two-hour minimum we paid for. We would certainly recommend Mr. Hovland to anyone needing a handyman for a big job or several smaller ones.
Our apologies for taking so long to post this review. Life has been a bit hectic lately.

He seemed a likeable person, Mr Hovland came to our house and sought to figure out the problem. He found a small tomato stem in a water air thingy and thought that was why our dishwasher was leaking. But no, we ran it and it kept leaking. Then he took off the outer door to try to find the problem. He screwed the door back on. A couple of screws were still loose when he left.
Basically he couldn't stop our dishwahser from leaking. Still charged me his full $110. ANd suggested I call Appliance Doctor. When I grumbled about him assuring me on the phone he could fix the diswasher but I still got charged, he said, "i'll look online to see if maybe there should be a gasket and it fell off" have never heard back from him. He didn't even call to say "sorry I couldn't find out any information".
He should have told us that appliances weren't his specialty and should have recommended Appliance Doctor straight up; especially since I expressed my concern regarding repairing verses buying a new dishwasher. So rather than possibly throwing another 100 something down the drain we bought a new dishwasher. And when the new dishwasher came he pointed out that the outer part of the dishwasher door fell off (the stainless steel part that you see), as the repairman Mr Hovland did not put the screws back on correctly.

Update Mr Hovland contacted me and made things right.

This went very well. We have had him back several times and will continue to use him in the future. He is very dependable. He is very efficient with his time.

Everything went very smoothly. He finished ahead of schedule and did everything on our list, plus a few things that he noticed were missing from our list.

It was perfect.  He fit me in quickly. 

He arrived at the agreed time, we checked supplies hoping to ensure we had everything needed, he worked steadily on each task till complete and cleaned up after each task.

The project went smooth. Mr. Hovland did an outstanding job! It took him about 2.5 hours to trim my new door and remove the old one, install the new one and put everything into place.


He was on time, does great work and very polite.

It went great.  Mr. Hovland is competent in an extraordinary number of tasks and he works very quickly.  Not to break his stride, I may run to the local hardware store to get something he needs, and by the time I return he has completed multiple tasks and moved way on down the list.  I don't think he wastes a minute of his customers' time.  Additionally, he has a complete mobile workshop, so he is ready for almost anything I need done.  On an earlier visit, he did a perfect sheet metal repair.  His next visit will entail a fence repair. He really is a jack of all trades.

I had a good experience with him and he did a great job.
