The Floor Doctor was very professional and completed the job on time. Our floors look amazing. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking to refinish their hardwood floors and match and patch/ feather-in new flooring to match the old.

Bill and crew do a great job. I hired The Floor Doctor multiple times as a residential remodeling contractor. Happy homeowners make for happy contractors, and as such the Floor Doctor remains on my go-to list.

Bill was here on time the first day and things were off to a great start until it was time for the first coat of sealer. Someone called in sick one day, then there were several days Bill said he would be here and never showed. (He even said he would work on Saturday, and then on Sunday, but never did.) He always had an excuse and would blame his workers even though e-mail after e-mail said HE would be here the next day. The second coat should have been done on Thursday and was not done until the next Monday. It still looked thin in spots and we were not satisfied, so Bill ended up doing a third coat. All said and done, we did not get back into the house until that Friday, a full week after we were supposed to be able to come home. Finding housing for an unexpected week (for a family of 6 + a dog) was not an easy task. We had other projects scheduled and being 1 week behind made it difficult to prepare for them. Bill's lack of follow through and communication (once things went wrong) was very frustrating. He never came back to finish the job (putting back doors, removing tape, cleaning up his stuff...which was still here a week after he was supposed to pick it up.) We were able to negotiate an approximately 17% discount, which helped ease the inconvenience, but the fact that we had to ask for this instead of it being offered was just one more reason to question Bill's integrity. He clearly messed up, he knew he messed up and he didn't offer to make it right! We also found that pretty much every baseboard was marked, several had deep groves in them (presumably from the sander) and there were splashes of sealer on them in several places. We had to repaint every baseboard instead of just touching some up. If we had known how sloppy they would be, we would have taken the time to remove every baseboard to protect them. This was a very negative experience. It is hard to write such a scathing review, and this is not something we have ever done before, but reviews helped us pick him in the first place. We feel others should be warned...we would never recommend using The Floor Doctor.

We were on an extremely tight deadline and owner Bill Chamberlain was super responsive right from the start. His bid was roughly equivalent to others in terms of price, but it was his friendliness and flexibility which stood out. He fit us into an already full calendar, working nights and weekends to finish by our deadline. We were extremely pleased with the end result: very high quality work.
Several months later, a gap appeared between floorboards in the threshold because of us having the heat on for the fall, causing the boards to shrink a bit. Bill came and fixed it - quickly and at no additional charge. Needless to say, we were impressed and very grateful.

Do not hire this business to do any work for you! I hired them for an upstairs hardwood floor layment. The two helpers that showed up did such a poor job that I will have to remove almost 200 sq. ft. of 3/4 inch lap jointed white oak, discard, and replace with new flooring. They charged me $970 dollars labor, I supplied materials. I will lose over $1500 in materials alone-plus labor to remove $500+ dollars and re-install probably another $900+ dollars. In the end about $4470.00 dollars for a bedroom and closet! The problems: 1. End joints staggered inches from one another row after row throughout the room, other areas with 5-6ft boards next to each other and no adjacent joints. Distribution looks pathetic to EVERYONE who has seen it, family, friends, other contractors. One contractor said "I wouldn't have handed them a check for this" 2. NO REGARD for color/appearance of floor boards, large areas of bone white boards some with yellow stains grouped in field of darker orangey brown flooring. Looks horrible. 3. Two large humps approx 10 inches wide x 8 feet long from old floor settling completely ignored. Could at LEAST have taken 5 minutes to throw down some cheap sheeting to compensate. 4. HUGE SPACES between the boards throughout. Totally unneccasary in a room of this size. for lateral expansion, yet both ends in areas butted againts wall footings AT BOTH ENDS! ? Read the instructions. 5. The order of operation for layment of this premium Bruce hardwood plank was WHATEVER CAME OUT OF THE BOX WAS THE NEXT BOARD LAYED. Basic regard for appearance completely ignored. Again, ALL of these issues were discussed AHEAD of and during the job. BEFORE the job I requested NO boards less than 2 ft were used except rarely at the end of a row 5 or 6 feet apart. There are MANY boards 1ft to 2ft throughout, some with color and grain so ugly that I would have sooner have had them thrown into the trash. I found pieces 2inches to 3 inches long used at the ends, not even nailed in! One board at the door landing 3 feet long also not nailed in. I could fit the end of my finger in the crack (see number 4 above) And move the board all around. I also asked NO END JOINTS CLOSER THAN 3 FT on adjacent rows. I found 4 to 6 end joints per square foot in several areas! After several polite calls, I finally got the actual contractor out. I told him I didn't expect a perfect job, but this wasn't even good. His response was "Oh you didn't say you wanted a good job, you just said you wanted us to finish the job!" My wife was appalled. He then stated "If the floor looked so bad it wouldn't have taken 48 hours to tell me, so it couldn't be all that bad" ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!! I have a challenging toddler, and a wife 8-months pregnant and sick, and I work 12hour shifts. Taking 2-days is his excuse for a poor job?! My wife pointed out to him that being professional MEANS doing good work EVEN WHEN no one is looking. He then stated "I don't see any problems anyway" but then called several days later to say "OK, I'll come over and fix ONE of those probems but thats all" Oh, I asked, you mean one those problems that don't exist? Come on! "All I do is lose money on these little homeowner fixes, your not worth my time" I PAID HIM $970 DOLLARS FOR LESS THAN 8 HOURS OF WORK, NOT DONE BY THE CONTRACTOR BUT BY A "HELPER"! I don't know about other homeowners OR businesses but nearly a $1000 dollars is ALOT of money to pay someone for a short day of work . Go ahead, throw your money in the furnace, but I won't make a mistake like this again.

I have no comaplints. They did what they said they would, charged what they said they would, and it was an overall good experience.

We were very pleased and they were very helpful in showing us different lines of flooring that we might use. They were very prompt with their installation and were there when they said they would be. They were very helpful. Some of the flooring didn't take and they came back and they replaced it. They were very accommodating.

We wanted our kitchen floor to be taken down to the soft wood. His assistant removed two layers of flooring, one layer that was nailed down. Then he sanded it and coated it with a natural polish four times, one layer each day. We were not happy with the end product because there were several nail holes from removing the top floor. We had another company come to look at the job and they said that the nail holes should have been filled in to prevent build up in the holes and that the polish was uneven.

He was very responsive and gave us a reasonable quote for the work, showed up on time and did the work as promised. The result was decent though not spectacular. He was willing to come back and fix an area that we thought wasn't quite right with no argument.

I called him to find out his schedule, and to set up a time for him to do the work. I was trying to move into my house before Christmas and was eager to get the work done quickly. He asked me when would be good for me, I told him early the following week, and he gave me an appointment to do the job that was a perfect fit for my schedule. The day of the appointment he called me several hours prior to our meeting time to make sure we were still going to meet. The person who came to do the work showed up promptly and did a great job. Everything was handled in an A1 professional manner, punctually, efficiently, and capably. I'm very happy with the company and with my floor!
