Bill was very willing to discuss the issue with me when I contacted him. He was also very knowledgeable about powderpost beetles, which was not true for several other pest management companies I contacted. I arranged to have Bill inspect the window frame and cavity after the window contractor removed it. He was very professional and identified the window frame as the location from which the beetles originated. Bill made several recommendations to the window contractor and took some beetles I had captured back to his office for detailed examination. The same day, he called me back and identified them as Lyctid powderpost beetles. Bill stated his opinion that further treatment of the window cavity was unnecessary. Although the window contractor would have paid Bill's inspection fee ($195) and for any treatment, Bill didn't charge anything! I was both surprised and impressed, and would highly recommend Summit for both professionalism and integrity.

My experience with Summit has been incredibly disappointing. I've been completely overcharged for a service that was never delivered. They never got rid of my rodent problem! I have had a rodent problem and first called Summit in the fall of 2018. I was charged $500 for two appointments to seal my house and set bait traps. I was told that there was evidence of rats though we had only seen mice. As the pest problem continued I scheduled another appointment and assumed they would remedy the issue free of charge since I already paid $500. I was told that the company does not guarantee their work and that they would need another couple of visits and an additional $350 to set more bait and seal up other access points. I paid a total of $850, yet they still did not seem to be able to get rid of the rodents. I called again and the technician said nothing was eating the bait so he thought it probably wasn't rodents, despite the fact that we've all seen droppings and have heard rodent sounds (chewing and moving in the walls). He said it was probably just "house sounds". Ridiculous. I called to complain and the owner said he would come out to my home. Upon arriving the owner identified an area of the house that the technician failed to seal, even though he was paid to seal up my entire home. He also identified that the rodent issue was with mice and not rats as the technician had previously been telling us. It also became clear during this meeting that the technician didn't complete another job as previously discussed. Bill told me that companies make mistakes and he wanted to make it right. He offered to refund my money and then told me he would rip up my porch and that I needed to get on a maintenance plan (Surprise! They wanted me to pay them more money!). I told him I would need to think about it before agreeing to anymore work, because after the mistakes his company made I wanted to get a second opinion. When I called to follow up on the refund I got no answer. A few days later I got an email from Bill saying he decided not to refund me. For a company that claims they value honesty and that they will work to address all rodent issues this is unacceptable. I hope others don't waste their money on this company like I did!
Response from Summit Pest Management
"I am so sorry that you feel that we did not address your rodents issue properly. We always work with our customers and thoroughly explain what your expectations should be based on activity and conditions of the home. We originally treated for rodents in November of 2018 and we did a two week follow up (protocol for rodents). At that time, the technician closed up areas that could be closed. He explained that with your home being over 100 years old and that poorly constructed, non-permitted additions were added, we would not be able to guarantee that rodents would not find their way back in. He highly recommended a maintenance program for rodents but you declined this service. You called us again this year when you had activity knowing full well that we would not guarantee due to the conditions of your home. The technician went over pricing, before he started work, and you approved of the costs. He reiterated the need to be on a maintenance plan. We cannot be held responsible for rodents (that can find their way into a hole the size of a quarter) when poor construction is in play. Sincerely, Bill Larsen Owner Summit Pest Management"

Very well. James took care of the problem in two visits, as promised. He found his way into my horrible little crawl space and set bait. His return visit was two weeks later. He repaired the broken vent through which rodents had been coming and going and he set more bait for any stragglers. I have not heard any rodent noises since then, and no food has been taken from the kitchen either. I had questions about a transient raccoon that had been hanging out in my yard recently, as well as a possible bedbug problem. I deeply appreciate James' honesty in not trying to sell me extra services that I did not clearly need.
Response from Summit Pest Management
"[Member Name Removed], Thanks for taking the time to review us! It was our pleasure being able to help you with your crawl space. If the raccoons that were passing through your back yard ever decide to take up a more semi-permanent residency, we hope you remember us. All the best, Your friends at Summit Pest Management 503-639-2500"

They were absolutely wonderful. I called them back for the next summer and they were booked out 30 days so I had to use another company. I'd give them all "A's". I felt the price was reasonable and they saved me a lot more money. They called and checked back with me several times. They went up on the roof and around the house looking for places rats might have entered.

Easy to schedule appointment. Technician arrived on time and inspected crawl space and set things up for pest removal. After 2 weeks, returned as promised and removed pest and removal materials and put new screens on vents to keep further mice out. Excellent, timely service from a friendly and knowledgeable technician.

We first called on Summit to take care of the family of squirrels that had taken up residence in our attic prior to us moving into our home. The folks at Summit explained our options and clearly presented the cost involved. It took a couple of weeks to trap and remove all the squirrels. Summit then assisted with securing the squirrel entryways until a roofer was available to install the proper vent covers. We then experienced an invasion of sugar ants. The Summit folks again clearly explained options and pricing. We decided on an annual contract with quarterly visits. Summit has been true to their word and have quickly responded and done additional treatments in between the quarterly visits whenever necessary (at no additional cost). Lastly we had a problem with woodpeckers and contracted Summit to hang shiny strips to ward off the birds and also to secure any spots the birds might enter the house. Bill at Summit did a complete inspection of our house as well to be sure we had no additional issues. All employees have been responsive, professional and helpful.

We worked with this company over about a three to four week period. They were concerned with the problem and tried many different ways to catch the animal.
We have already mentioned the company name to many people and would highly recommend them!

It went very well. I had been hearing skittering noises from above, and when I finally peeked into the attic crawlspace with a flashlight, I saw two large surprised squirrels. I called Summit Pest, and Matt came out promptly. He went through every crawlspace, the basement and everywhere else a squirrel might get in, and determined that there was one obvious opening (where the previous remodeler had neglected to put flashing on the new roof in one particular area) that corresponded with the location of the squirrels. Matt set up two traps, and within hours, both were full. Over the next few days, Matt came back and took away the squirrels in the cages, and there ended up being six beefy squirrels in total. Then Matt put in a temporary barrier which was a test to see if any more came in or out. After several days of no activity, the coast was clear. I was very very glad to get rid of those varmints. Reading about Squirrel Nutkin in Beatrix Potter is one thing, but having vermin in your attic is quite another. Good job by Summit Pest Management

They set a trap and stuffed newspaper in other openings around the outside of my house where skunks might be, so I could see if it would be disturbed. Came back to re-set the trap after a neighbors cat was caught. Came back to take the skunk away after it entered the trap and filled up the hole that the skunk had dug under the house.

Normally in this sort of situation, they ask the customer to sign a contract for a year's service. They set the bait stations, and then they come back every three months to service/replenish the bait stations. Every time they service/replenish the bait stations, the customer is charged an additional $95 for this service visit. On the initial visit, I asked the technician whether I could have service for a shorter time than a year. So, he wrote my contract to say that I would have service as needed--and he told me to notify the company ahead of time if I decided that I wanted to discontinue their service. A week or two before they were due to come back this month, I notified them that I wanted to discontinue. When they came, they just picked up the bait stations and did not charge me anything. I appreciate that they were willing to give me a shorter service span in order to save me money. I probably will buy some bait stations and bait myself just in case, but I haven't done that yet. I haven't seen any more rats, either. I probably would use Summit Pest Management again.

Summit Pest Management was our company for three years+?when
they began to grow the service began to decline. We provided a key to our locked back yard (we
have a large Koi Pond-locking the gate keeps the kids out) and kept it in the
same spot until today.
Over the last year they would call before coming out because
Matt said the key was not there. This
was never a problem before Matt. We would check and sure enough the key was in
the designated spot every time. Last
fall, Debbie, Office Mgr. called and said they coming the next day. I checked and sure enough the key was where
it had been for nearly two years. No one
showed up-None of the Bait stations had been moved from their settled-in spots,
and no invoice left at the door. I had started leaving an item on top that
would fall off (un-noticed by the servicer) if the bait station had been
serviced.
Eight days later the technician, Matt, arrived and serviced
the bait stations (I was home) and left the invoice on the front porch and had
charged me for two visits-eight days apart.
I refused to pay for a service that did not happen and then be charged
again eight days later?that is when Debbie became unfriendly.
1.
Do not charge a customer when the technician
never came.
2.
Then double charge (8) eight days later.
3.
Very Poor Business Practice
We received an invoice in the mail, I refused to pay for two
services eight days apart. Then I
discovered that they had been charging me the quarterly rate each month,
instead of the lower monthly rate.
The middle of February 2015 they called and said they were
coming-I called back and asked them not to come because they had been at my
home the end of January 2015 (2) wks. earlier.
Today, I received a letter, dated 2/17/15 cancelling my
service?the service- I was not receiving.
Had I written this review last summer they would have received an A-,
from me today, F.
Letter said, ?Due to scheduling demands regarding servicing
your account, while we are in the area, we are unable to continue doing your
pest control.?
I was a customer for over three years?expanding their
business without adequate professional staffing has made them unable to offer
service and most of all, Customer Service. Grade ?F?.

I called them to schedule someone to come out and they sent Matt out the next day. He crawled under the house (ick) and recovered the dead rodent (double ick). He then went back under the house to fix the point of entry. Matt was professional, pleasant and explained everything that he needed to do. I have always been impressed with Summit and will continue to recommend them.
