Millet was 4 and a half years old, in great health and was a very sweet dog. She is very loved and had many people searching for her. From the moment we found that she was gone, we were searching, putting up posters, talking to neighbors. At one point, I called 75 vets in one day to see if any dogs had come in. St. John's Vet was visitied the day after she was euthanized there. They were brought a flyer with a picture on it and we talked to THE VERY SAME VET that had euthanized her. He said nothing to us about it. It wasn't until 2 weeks later, and after a lot of worry, tears shed, money spent--over 400 flyers were put up (TWO of them being at St. John's Vet, both inside and out, which, at this point, we had visited at least 3 times to check in), not including 22and quot; x 28and quot; neon poster boards around the whole city, and quot;intersection alertsand quot; where we handed out handbills to traffic stopped @ stop signs--and shelters visited. We got word of the incident at the tracks from the 2 railroad workers that had found Millet and had called it in to Animal Services. My partner got the call since I was at work and immediately went to St. John's Vet to talk to them. At this point, the doctor confirms that it was Millet. We go back together because I want proof. I show him pictures of her (lots), ask him for all details and for a copy of the report of the incident. His report classified the dog as a and quot;large, brindle, pitt-mix,and quot; which doesn't sound at all like Millet! He hadn't recorded her weight, but had given her enough morphine for a 60-65 lb. dog. Millet is medium-sized (47 lbs.), red and something of a hound mix, with a long snout and long, long legs. He also says that the pictures don't look like the dog he worked on. So I leave thinking that Millet is alive! We continue with our search, flyering everywhere in St. John's as I'm still getting calls of sightings for her while also trying to figure out any more information we can about whether this dog--hit by the train--was Millet or not. The Shelter also had terrible records of this. The description of the dog they picked up more closely matches Millet, but the driver says it wasn't her when he is shown pictures. To make it harder, the receptionist at St. John's Vet DOES say it was her. We keep going down to the tracks, spending hours--looking for anything--blood, hair, her collar. It isn't until we get in touch with the railroad workers again, and they agree to meet me down by the tracks and show me exactly where they found her that I find any proof. They were sure it was her when they saw the pictures. They described how sweet she was. That they could tell that she knew that she was being helped when she was put into the Animal Services truck. Once I had the exact location, I found single hairs of hers--she had such beautiful hairs and I've examined them closely before--and then chunks of her hair and skin lodged under rocks on the railroad tracks.

I am heartbroken. Without this closure, I would still be searching, not able to give up hope. I am writing this review because I am appalled that the vet at St. John's Vet didn't say ANYTHING to us--not when we came in and gave him a flyer (he was helpful with pet fiding tips, for sure, but missed the largest and most important tip of all--THAT HE HAD PUT HER TO SLEEP THE MORNING BEFORE!!!), not when we called to check in, not the several times a day he and all of his staff must have seen these flyers as they worked. There were four other people in that operating room--vet techs, another vet working on another dog, the receptionist--and no one could tell me anything concrete. Millet was not scrawny. She was obviously not a street puppy. She was sweet and calm and beautiful. Yes, she had extensive injuries, but YES! SHE WAS SOMEONE'S DOG and someone who loved her so so so very much. I find it incredibly neglectful that they didn't speak up when we came in and that they didn't take better records. RECORD THE DOG'S WEIGHT!! WRITE DOWN IF SHE WAS SPAYED!! Simple details would have made a world of difference and St. John's Vet's breezy treatment of a dire situation is discusting. Millet should have been treated with more respect.

We love this place. We've seen I think 4 different doctors here, and every one has been completely focussed on the well-being of our pets. It's clear how much they love animals and want to give them the best possible care. At the same time they are honest about costs and always tell us which vaccines or other services may NOT be necessary. They'll answer any question, in person or over the phone. We'll always bring our animals here - the care is wonderful! (And they're open Saturdays!!)

They are prompt and thorough. When there is an illness we are pleased with their service. You don't have to make an appointment to be seen, so you don't wait for weeks. Their prices are reasonable. We will continue to see them in the future.
