Really well. They showed up when they said they would and did really great quality work.

Very easy to work with this company. I was able to complete everything online and had minimal contact with the company. The lack of contact was both a positive and a negative as they told me they were going to contact me 1-2 weeks before the work was to be completed, but I was surprised to come home from work one day to find my sidewalks torn up. Thankfully my neighbors also hired this company and were at home when the work was being completed. They did not tell me how long I was unable to use my driveway, but again, thankfully my neighbor knew. Additionally, it took them a couple weeks to collect all of the barriers. Because they were so easy to work with and they did a good job, I still would be happy to use them again, just wish there would have been more communication via email or phone.

Great. They came and did the work as scheduled and hauled away the debris.

We had some raised sidewalks as a result of tree roots. They came out to grind them down so as not to be a trip hazard. He came out on time, provide some good recommendations on what we should do when the roots raised higher, and cleaned up the area nicely. He was very professional and knowledgeable. I would definitely use them again and recommend them.

Generally it went well. They pulled the repair permits from the City and emailed me a copy. I had to wait a few weeks before the work was done, but they completed the work before the deadline required by the City. They worked quickly and, once started, the whole job was done within a few days. The tripping hazard caused by the old concrete (being pushed up by a tree root) is gone and the new concrete looks good.
My only complaint is related to the treatment of our street trees. Specifically, when I asked on the phone how they would deal with pruning the roots of the tree that were pushing up the concrete, I was told that any roots over 6 inches wide would be left for the City's Urban Forester to inspect, and that the Urban Forester would mark the location where roots could be pruned. In reality, the crew came out, removed the concrete, and cut the roots within an hour. We didn't have a chance to see how thick the tree roots were because they started cutting very quickly. When my husband asked about the root pruning, the crew member told him that regulations were based on how far from the tree the roots were cut (or growing?), not the size of the roots.
Also, when someone came back to finish up the work, they ripped a branch off of our other street tree with their truck. We're left watching both trees to see how they'll recover.

It was an outstanding experience. Chris submitted the initial bid and when we had questions he offered to come onsite and walk through the project and our questions. It was very clear when he came out that he was a knowledgeable professional. He walked us through several options and did not put any pressure on us for any particular option. Once we decided to go with Sidewalk Solutions Chris estimated it would be approximately three weeks before the work would start. To our surprise he was able to move it up to a week and began work as soon as the weather permitted. The entire job was completed in two days and the quality of the work is fantastic. The crew was professional and efficient. Chris communicated with us throughout the entire project including asking us permission as to when they could begin the job and keeping us informed about the status of the job. We have had several neighbors comment on the high quality of the job and about the work crew. Sidewalk Solutions was definitely on the higher end price wise but worth every penny. In fact we are so pleased with the work we are hiring them again to replace our front steps.

Once I had sent in my signature on the bid, they came and set up sidewalk barriers to cordon off the area, which they had prepped by removing the old concrete. The cordoned off space included the parking along a 15 foot section of the street. They didn't tell me they were going to do that, but I figured the job would be done in the 7 day window the signs posted on the barriers stated. It wasn't. 3 days past the posted date of completion, I called the company and left a message on a Saturday night. I heard nothing from them all day Monday, so I called again Monday afternoon and again left a voice message. I called a third time Tuesday 2/28/12 around 11 am, since I still had not received a phone call. I got a message within an hour stating that the job had been completed. I called back, skeptical, and finally got a person on the line. After I explained to the (recepcionist that at 7 am that same morning there had not been any work done, she told me she would call me back. In about 10 minutes, she called back and apologized; apparently my house had been listed as finished by mistake. She explained that they couldn't pour the concrete when it was raining, (which it was at the time), so it may be a few days until it was dry.
You can imagine my surprise, then, when I got home that afternoon and discovered that the concrete had been poured. One section was siting 3/4 immersed in water. I immediately called the company, but.... to date (3/4/12) no one has called me back. There is now a huge puddle that forms when it rains. They did come and remove the barriers a few days later, but there was no communication left at my house or on my phone.
The good news - I haven't paid anything yet. The poor professionalism (who knows if they even pulled the permit with the city that they were supposed to?!) has been incredible. I'm dumb-founded, in fact, that a company like this has managed to get any good reviews on Angie's List.

Response from Sidewalk solutions
"We always make it a point to ask property owners if they would like any notice before work begins. This was done in this instance and notice was given, however, we did not notify the property owner we would reserve the parking in front of the job to prevent cars from parking nearby so they were not damaged. We will now implement notification of this aspect of performing our work for future customers. As a result of the current economy, our office is typically closed Saturday-Monday. The concrete was originally scheduled to be replaced 2/23/12, however, our crew had split up into two crews that day and each had thought the other completed the job so we surprised to hear it had not been completed. Once our mistake had been realized we jumped to make every attempt to correct it and managed to get a concrete truck within an 1 hour notice and the concrete was replaced that same day. It should have been no surprise to the property owner when they returned home as a phone call earlier that day had been made to notify them what we had managed to do. All work required by the City of Portland was performed, unfortunately, in some cases such as this one when a minimal amount of sidewalk is being repaired puddles are created at adjacent panels that are not on grade. The required permit and inspections were obtained for this job and as of 3/1/12 the City of Portland has issued a 'Repairs are Complete and Satisfactory' card which is being mailed to the property owner. Thank you for your criticism, albeit inflammatory in instances, as it will help us to improve our customer service and we are sorry for any inconvenience we have caused. If there is any questions as to our craftsmanship or professionalism I encourage people to call the City of Portland Maintenance Bureau who is responsible for issuing permits and handling our inspections at 503-823-1711."

City of Portland required certain sections of our sidewalks be repaired. Sidewalk Solutions has a lot of experience with the process and they knew exactly what to do. They pulled the permit, excavated, poured, cleaned up nicely, and got the city inspection taken care of. One stop shopping - that's the way we like it. Great job!

They did excellent work. If you can get your neighbors to agree to have work done at the same time, they offer a substantial discount. His was the lowest bid we received by 100%; others were two to three times what his offer was.

After my call someone was out to give me an estimate right away and the job was begun right on time. They did a great job including a suggested design change that would allow the tree roots to grow and create an attractive curve in the sidewalk.

Called Sidewalk Solutions for an estimate. Received a reasonable estimate within two days of asking for one. Called another contractor who took nearly three weeks for the estimate. By that time I decided to go with Sidewalk Solution. The work was started two days later than estimated, but the work was completed in a timely fashion (over the course of four days) and the result is exactly what was promised. Costs included taking care of all permits and time taken included all proper inspections. Very satisfied with the work and the timeliness of it.

They were fantastic. Everything was extremely prompt and very professional. They showed real concern about following up to make sure things were done right. I was just very happy with the work they did. He was in the range of the estimates. There was someone who was much higher and someone who was a little bit lower. Overall it went excellent. I think he was fair pricewise. I would use them in the future.

The price was in line with the other bids. I was happy with the price. We talked to 5-6 companies but they were the only company who sent us the estimate. They did what they said they would do and when they said they would do.

We had multiple bids, many unsolicited - from $1200 - $4000 - after the city sent us a notice. This company was very competitive, professional, performed the work quickly (in and out in less than a week, including the two required city inspections), and did a very nice job. We're avid gardeners and were worried about damage to plants in the parking strip, not to mention our 100 year old dutch elm. While not perfect, they did a good job of protecting plants and being very careful to not damage the tree.
