I took my Subaru to Raleigh Hills Auto because I heard a noise. It was quickly diagnosed as a timing belt. They also found that the altenator was not operating well. I left the car with them and everything was fixed. The people at Raleigh Hills Auto are friendly and the work was well done.

Brilliantly. They also, for the price of the oil change, rotate tires and inspect belts and hoses. We are headed on a trip and wanted a quick-look of the essentials. They went way beyond. Additionally, their advice is spot on. I overheard a converstation to a young man about his car and know that what they were saying to him is absolutely right. This is a gem of a find and plan to recommend everyone to use their services.

On a snow day of some accumulation my truck started to act wild and then stopped. I was referred to Raleigh Hills Automotive and was in fear of the cost and time. I drive food around for people in town. They were decent and did all plus much much more. My price I was quoted did not change. The mechanic, Brian, who worked on my truck, told me the extra & time it took. I was put into my truck and hours w/o change. Great people. Friendly, helpful and honest. I would not have been able to continue the the 928 people I serve each month w/o them. :)
Description of Work: My 1994 Toyota 4x4 had to have a new engine put in. Brian was my guy! He is kind listener and did some much more without charge 100s more. Thanks Brian.

We did not have the work done at this shop. In fairness, they fixed my air conditioner a month prior and did an excellent job at a fair price.
Description of Work: My daughter has a 1998 Subaru Impreza. She wanted to be sure it was safe to take on a road trip to California. Raleigh Hills Automotive gave us a $3,000 estimate to fix a variety of problems. We were told that it would not be safe to drive the car at all, let alone to California. I happen to know someone who works of Subarus in his spare time so I asked him to take a look. $200 later it was good to go. That was a year ago. She has driven the car to and from college (300 miles) 3x since then. The people were very nice, but they were also very persuasive, using the emotional pull that my daughter's life was in danger if she drove this car.

"In fairness", you waited a year and are rating our business an F for work that wasn't done and we have no way at this late date to know what work was recommended. Were the struts in dangerous shape? Because, yes the car would still drive the distance you suggest but would be a very dangerous situation should immediate braking be required. Did the car have original hoses? Original hoses on a 10 year old high mileage car, daughter on a long distance road trip not a good scenario either. Our hands are tied here. We are happy you have found a hobbyist/mechanic to meet your needs. Continued safe travels.

On 10/27/15 during a routine 90K mile service appointment, the Service Manager, Keith Kirschenman called me claiming 2 belts were making noise and had been replaced which would increase my cost over the estimate - without my authorization. He said that legally they can increase a customer's cost up to 15% over the original estimate without owner authorization. I called 5 other auto service shops in the Portland metro area and none of them had heard of or practice this questionable policy. When I picked my car up, both Kirschenman and a coworker stated, "We do it all the time." Then he acted surprised when I said I would not be returning. There was no noise from worn belts and I don't know about legally, but ethically - I'm out.

We are sorry for your experience. It could have been handled differently and will be in the future. To be fair, the belts were brittle. The technicians could hear them rattling coming into the shop. Those belts must come off in order to replace the timing belt. Our technician stated that he thought he could tighten them up when he put them back on and the problem would resolve. It's also worth noting that the fan belts appeared to be original to the vehicle due to the markings and appearance of wear. When tightening them didn't fix the problem they were changed. The cost was 2.2% in excess of our original quote. If the same belts failed a week later the cost would have been significantly more at roughly $135 parts and labor. To be honest, we would have been remiss if hadn't replaced those belts. Whether you paid for the belts or not, for us, it's not always about the money. We don't like the thought of our friends, family or customers broke down on the side of the road because we failed at such a simple repair. All of the actual mechanics of the situation would have been explained to you if not for the extreme escalation discussing the $32 charge. When you voiced your very strong objection to the $32 charge in excess of the original estimate of $1,485 we were happy to remove the charge and let you keep both sets of belts. Surely you don't think we were trying to enrich ourselves with a $32 charge for parts after we already rented you a car for the day and gave you a $50 Angie's List discount Our customer base expect and rely on us to make exactly the call we did for your vehicle. We understand that, for you, it was about not being notified ahead of time. So noted. If it was a very significant difference we absolutely would have called. As I said we were happy to remove the objectionable charge. Again please accept our apology. As always, we appreciate when our customers take the time to review us.

As above. A day or later a light came on at the console. They told me what it was for, said it would probably reset itself (it did) but if it came on and blinked, to come in right away. It didn't.

My young son thought it would be neat to play with the windows while supposedly on a mission to retrieve his school bag from the car. Unfortunately, while I'm sure it was indeed neat, he managed to overwork one of the 15 year old motors and/or cable linkages inside the door and the window was stuck... and open. Fortunately we had a few days of rare not-raining time here in December so I grabbed my trusty Bentley guide and got the door trim pulled off to see if I could get the window to jam in the "up" position. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get it up without applying so much force that was sure I'd be breaking something. The cable linkage was a sealed unit and there didn't appear to be any way to turn it by hand. I needed some experienced help, so I hit Angie's List to find a mechanic who might be more willing to cooperate with a DIY-ish person rather than fight them. (Yes, Herzog-Meier, I *do* mean you!) Chris completely exceeded my expectations. Not only did he fix the window, he did it at no charge. I plan to come back soon to give him a chance to fix something for real and get paid for his work!
Description of Work: He found a way to get my not-working power window to get stuck in the "up" position instead of the dreaded "down" position, which is seriously no fun during an Oregon winter.

Got this provider's name from Angie's List. I had been told by trusted local dealer that I needed a new catalytic converter for 2001 Chev Tahoe ($1,345). Learned from provider that the catalytic converter was fine, occasional noise I heard was being made by loose O2 sensors which needn't be fixed now. Did good job of quickly identifying and fixing problem with cruise control and a/c. Made appointment Thursday afternoon, took car in Friday morning, had it back in three hours. Very professional, friendly. They work on all makes/models except exotic sports cars. This is now our family's #1 car repair shop.

Damage was done to my 2003 Buick Sentry. I was told that the damage was there when I brought it in. I am confident that it happened while at the shop. There was a tire smudge the length of the passenger side of my vehicle. They did clean off the smudge, however the paint is still damaged and they will not repair it. I will not go back to them...that is for sure. UPDATE, June 20, 2014: Mike got my car repaired and I'm very happy with it. Mike also got me a rental. My car is perfect now.

We truly regret that this member feels we have damaged her car. In the normal course of business things happen and we make it right. Period. In this case the member left her car in our shop 2-3 weeks after service was completed which is not a common occurrence. Everyday as is our practice her car was brought in at night and out in the day. No cars are ever left outside overnight. Our technicians noticed the rubber marking almost immediately and thought it was brought in that way so we never gave it another thought. If at anytime we felt we were responsible we would have notified the member and let her know how we planned to take care of it. The member then sent someone other than herself to pick up her car and that person remarked on the mark and said it wasn't there before. We addressed this by having our shop person spend 20 minutes buffing off what we thought was a rubber mark. We asked the members representative to have the member give us a call and let us know how her car was doing. She did and said everything was fine. The next thing we knew was that a negative review was received at Angie's List. Immediately we made contact with the member to find out what had happened since January that on April 1st she posted this review. When asked when and who told her that, "they will not repair it", she stated that it was because we "did not offer". In our defense we could not offer to repair a problem we did not know existed. Currently this member will be returning her car to us so that we might evaluate the extent of the problem and discuss a mutually satisfactory remedy.

I drove my 1989 Jeep Comanche into Raleigh Hills Automotive and spoke with Keith, service manager. I explained I had had my truck serviced for several years at another automotive shop that had recently closed. I told him I needed someone to help keep my truck in running order. Initially I needed an oil change but also wanted truck checked out for any other maintenance problems. The hardest thing to fix was the emergency brake handle as Jeep no longer make them. The service guys were able to use materials they had on hand to provide something that will work. Keith kept me informed and consulted with me throughout the whole process, offered to provide shuttle service to my home if needed and had the truck ready at the agreed upon time. The whole process went well and I felt comfortable dealing with Raleigh Hills Automotive.

I have read good reviews of Raleigh Hills on Angie’s List. However, I have a different experience with them. There were a number of things that they want to do to my car that are not necessary. Like, they wanted to replace the brake drums and I feel it was not necessary because I just had it replaced recently. They were trying to sell materials that were not needed and they wanted to do some things that were not necessary. I experienced this on several occasions for different problems. So, I basically stopped using their services and opted for another company eventually.

[member name removed] we are truly sorry you felt you have a bad experience. I see from your records however that you have been with us since 2008 and were last in March of 2013. In all that time I see that other than oil changes all you've ever done is purchase a set of tires. All reliable information on automotive repair, (Consumer Reports, automobile manufacturers, AAA, etc..), agree that "all" vehicles require regular maintenance service to maintain safety, efficiency and the life of their vehicle. "Regular" maintenance is defined in all vehicle owner's manuals, however, we understand that not "all" people have the same driving habits, etc... and that's part of what we consider when making recommendations to our customers at Raleigh Hills Automotive. I take issue with your statement that we make unnecessary recommendations. Simply put, we don't. Ever. We adhere to standard practices and guidelines for vehicle maintenance and repair. Period. We frequently take our customers into the shop and explain items that were found and are happy to do so. If you are comfortable driving a vehicle 5 years with virtually no maintenance performed then perhaps we were not the shop for you. Why you would patronize a business for 5 years and then put an unattractive review in the public domain is perplexing. Best Regards.

WOW!!!! What a terrific automotive place, this is the BEST. I am NOT paid to write this review, I am an actual customer. The people at Raleigh Hill Automotive are professional, very kind and nice, attentive in keeping me informed, letting me know the cost of each component that was needed and why it was needed. They made it comfortable to sit for the 3-4 hours that was needed to replace the air-conditioning system; fresh coffee, TV, magazines, and offers to get me lunch and even to take me to the park (to walk my service dog). The hours went by in a flash with Keith talking to me as well as a the steady stream of customers...the best part is the warranty that came with the newly installed AC, two years at any NAPA service center. One last detail, my Scion is a 2008 and the parts are difficult to find, however Keith continued to call around until he found the parts that were needed, he didn't just give up with the first or second or third call, and he looked for original parts. I drove a long distance to get to Raleigh Hills Automotive and would do it again in a flash because I trust them to do the absolute best. If there were a rating better than excellent I would give it.
