I took my Subaru to Raleigh Hills Auto because I heard a noise. It was quickly diagnosed as a timing belt. They also found that the altenator was not operating well. I left the car with them and everything was fixed. The people at Raleigh Hills Auto are friendly and the work was well done.

Brilliantly. They also, for the price of the oil change, rotate tires and inspect belts and hoses. We are headed on a trip and wanted a quick-look of the essentials. They went way beyond. Additionally, their advice is spot on. I overheard a converstation to a young man about his car and know that what they were saying to him is absolutely right. This is a gem of a find and plan to recommend everyone to use their services.

On a snow day of some accumulation my truck started to act wild and then stopped. I was referred to Raleigh Hills Automotive and was in fear of the cost and time. I drive food around for people in town. They were decent and did all plus much much more. My price I was quoted did not change. The mechanic, Brian, who worked on my truck, told me the extra & time it took. I was put into my truck and hours w/o change. Great people. Friendly, helpful and honest. I would not have been able to continue the the 928 people I serve each month w/o them. :)

On 10/27/15 during a routine 90K mile service appointment, the Service Manager, Keith Kirschenman called me claiming 2 belts were making noise and had been replaced which would increase my cost over the estimate - without my authorization.  He said that legally they can increase a customer's cost up to 15% over the original estimate without owner authorization.  I called 5 other auto service shops in the Portland metro area and none of them had heard of or practice this questionable policy.  When I picked my car up, both Kirschenman and a coworker stated, "We do it all the time."  Then he acted surprised when I said I would not be returning.
There was no noise from worn belts and I don't know about legally, but ethically - I'm out.
Response from Raleigh Hills Automotive
"We are sorry for your experience. It could have been handled differently and will be in the future. To be fair, the belts were brittle. The technicians could hear them rattling coming into the shop. Those belts must come off in order to replace the timing belt. Our technician stated that he thought he could tighten them up when he put them back on and the problem would resolve. It's also worth noting that the fan belts appeared to be original to the vehicle due to the markings and appearance of wear. When tightening them didn't fix the problem they were changed. The cost was 2.2% in excess of our original quote. If the same belts failed a week later the cost would have been significantly more at roughly $135 parts and labor. To be honest, we would have been remiss if hadn't replaced those belts. Whether you paid for the belts or not, for us, it's not always about the money. We don't like the thought of our friends, family or customers broke down on the side of the road because we failed at such a simple repair. All of the actual mechanics of the situation would have been explained to you if not for the extreme escalation discussing the $32 charge. When you voiced your very strong objection to the $32 charge in excess of the original estimate of $1,485 we were happy to remove the charge and let you keep both sets of belts. Surely you don't think we were trying to enrich ourselves with a $32 charge for parts after we already rented you a car for the day and gave you a $50 Angie's List discount Our customer base expect and rely on us to make exactly the call we did for your vehicle. We understand that, for you, it was about not being notified ahead of time. So noted. If it was a very significant difference we absolutely would have called. As I said we were happy to remove the objectionable charge. Again please accept our apology. As always, we appreciate when our customers take the time to review us."

The Raleigh Auto Team took my car in earlier than my appointment time - basic oil change and check for "that bad chirp" noise and why has the engine light been coming on and what else is needed. They are exceptional, diligent and fun too.

As above. A day or later a light came on at the console. They told me what it was for, said it would probably reset itself (it did) but if it came on and blinked, to come in right away. It didn't.

My young son thought it would be neat to play with the windows while supposedly on a mission to retrieve his school bag from the car. Unfortunately, while I'm sure it was indeed neat, he managed to overwork one of the 15 year old motors and/or cable linkages inside the door and the window was stuck... and open. Fortunately we had a few days of rare not-raining time here in December so I grabbed my trusty Bentley guide and got the door trim pulled off to see if I could get the window to jam in the "up" position.
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get it up without applying so much force that was sure I'd be breaking something. The cable linkage was a sealed unit and there didn't appear to be any way to turn it by hand. I needed some experienced help, so I hit Angie's List to find a mechanic who might be more willing to cooperate with a DIY-ish person rather than fight them. (Yes, Herzog-Meier, I *do* mean you!)
Chris completely exceeded my expectations. Not only did he fix the window, he did it at no charge. I plan to come back soon to give him a chance to fix something for real and get paid for his work!
Response from Raleigh Hills Automotive
"Glad we were able to get to your window before the Oregon weather got inside your car. Thanks for the kind words. Take care."
