The technician was good at communicating what time he would arrive. After the installation of the gas lines to both fireplaces (logs were not done at the same time) I called the city to verify what time they would come for inspection. The inspector came and said that the lines were not holding any pressure and that the wrong type of calking was used around the hole where the pipe came in from the gas line. He also said that if the fire penetrated through that opening, that a fire could travel up the walls. He said that usually the logs are installed at the same time the gas lines are put in and he didn't know why PDX Fireplace shop has not finished the complete installation. The PXD Fireplace Tech said that the lines had to pass inspection first. We don't know who was correct, but it's not comforting to know that there is conflicting opinions regarding something as dangerous as a gas line.
The next day the PDX tech came back and fixed or replaced the pressure value , changed the calking and installed the logs. Again, conflicting info regarding what type of calking. Inspector said the red calking the tech said the gray was fine. The tech was kind enough to wait in his van until the inspector showed up to sign off on the job. (about an hour)
The next day we were walking around the house and noticed a gas smell. We called NW Natural. They came out and checked the lines and said there was a cap coming off one of the pipes to the meter that wasn't tightened all the way.
Overall the job was sloppy. The pipes outside the home are not straight and the calking was not smoothed out. Little things like that might not matter to a lot of folks, but we like everything to look professionally done.
Just an FYI, we purchsed the logs at the NW Natural store because they had a much better selection, and better looking log sets.
“My husband call the shop to explain the detail of the work” There was no attempt to send someone to look and verify the issue” With other companies with great customer service, they would have made the offer to send someone out to view the work. They didn’t and therefore we will pay (in full) the bill and not recommend them.
