Prompt Response from my initial contact. I was able to schedule an appt the next week. When I arrived for my appt I was seen immediately and waited downstairs in the coffee shop for the appraisal to be done which was well within the time period quoted me. The appraisal was professional and complete. I had a few questions later and they happily took my phone call, answered my questions and offered further assistance if I needed it.

I originally contacted PGL and 3 other appraisal companies via email to ask for an approximate estimate for jewelry appraisal, providing a list of the items. Within hours PGL had responded, explaining the process for appraisal and the cost per item, and recommending a pre-appraisal sorting appointment. I said I would contact them at a later date to set up an appointment, and they again acknowledged my email with a "looking forward" response. I contacted them the following week, and they were able to schedule an appointment for me for 3 days hence. At the appointed time, Ms. Miller efficiently sorted through about 25 jewelry items, quickly identifying genuine vs. costume items. We discussed my motivation for the appraisal (insurance purposes), and she performed a rough appraisal-at-a-glance to categorize the genuine items into three value categories of and lt;$200, $200-500, and $500+ . Based on that, I contracted to have 5 items appraised, at a rate of $90 for the first item and $70 for each additional item - for a total of $370. She said they would be ready by 2 pm the next day, and if they were ready earlier PGL would call to let me know. At about 1:15 the next day PGL called to let me know the items were ready for pick up. Ms. Miller had determined upon additional examination that one of the five items was not actually worth as much as initially thought. Since it was not actually in the value category of items I selected for appraisal, she opted to not execute the appraisal, and my bill was adjusted down accordingly to $300. Note that if I had only had the sorting done and not the appraisal, I would've been charged for sorting at Ms. Miller's hourly consultant rate. Since I also had the appraisal done, there was no charge for the sorting. The items were cleaned as part of the appraisal process. The reports I received were very detailed, providing color photos of each item, measurements, and gem stone quality assessments along with the retail replacement value. Ms. Miller and her associates provided friendly and professional services.
