I inherited ADT when it acquired the company which I had originally hired for home security services. Recently the system, which had been in place for several years, ceased to function properly. I even had a visit from the police because the system gave a false alarm. That's when I called ADT for repair service. The technician who was sent out was obviously unqualified, and she left without putting the system into proper working order. I don't know exactly what errors and omissions she made, but it was quite clear that she failed to determine whether the battery should be replaced--I later found out that it should have been. I phoned ADT Customer Service (I use this term advisedly) to have someone else come out and fix my system properly, and I made myself very clear that I wanted a different technician. I was told that I would have to wait about two weeks before they could send someone out. I didn't consider that acceptable, so I made several phone calls before I finally found someone who understood that it wasn't appropriate to make me wait so long when I was asking that a botched repair job be made right. I had to make six or eight calls, to several different departments within the company, to finally get this job rescheduled, and every time I called I insisted that another tech be sent out. On the day scheduled, this same tech who came out the first time phoned me and said that she was on her way. I told her that I had expressly requested that she not be sent out, and that I didn't want her. She said something slightly rude and that was the end of that conversation. I decided that I wanted nothing more to do with this company, and called to cancel the service. Even that proved difficult, and despite the fact that I stated, ever so clearly, that I wanted nothing more to do with ADT, they sent me a letter requesting that I resume service with them. And, four days after I told them to shut off the service, I received an automated phone call from ADT telling me that my systems' battery was low. This is a nationwide company, and I can't say that service is bad everywhere, but where I live (Vancouver, Washington, a suburb of Portland, Oregon), this company should be avoid like the ebola virus.
