It was a great experience. Their professionalism was terrific. I already have recommended this carpet cleaner.
I contacted the company on a Saturday morning and spoke with a representative (I do not recall his name) about their PURT process for removing pet urine. He explained to me that they use a solution that they mix up (with a charge $60/gallon) depending on the severity of the stain. Over the phone, the company representative estimated based on my two cushions and his experience that it would likely need only a gallon, though could be more. I thought $60 was a reasonable starting price and requested an appointment. Before transferring over the call to another person for scheduling I asked whether a coupon on their web-site could be applied in my situation. The representative said it certainly could. From there Whitney took my information for the appointment, and I confirmed a second time that I could use the coupon; she replied I could. I also asked if the technician could provide an estimate on a cotton rug at the appointment time, which was also confirmed.
On the appointment day, the technician, JC, called my husband to confirm his arrival time. When he came, he reviewed the stains in question The technician asked if the pricing was explained to him over the phone to which he relied it was explained to me, his wife at which point JC detailed the expected charges.- $65 per gallon for the solution + $35 application charge + $10 fuel charge. He mentioned a per cushion fee ($5 per) but mentioned that he could waive that since he was only going to spot treat the stains (based on smell). The pricing was approved, and work completed per agreement.
My issue and reason for poor grading is that there was NO clear communication during the phone estimate of the multiple charges beyond the solution. How could I anticipate that their could be up to DOUBLE the price for a one-gallon application based on this interaction? When I called the day after the service to complain that I felt the company misrepresented their prices over the phone, the representative was politely apologetic but unable to make any changes as my husband approved the charges at the time of service. When I suggested that they be more clear in their estimates before taking the time to come out to someone's home, she said that they could, suggested that they will talk to the technician and perhaps even FIRE him! I was aghast that such a drastic action would be mentioned so flippantly and also my reason for a lower score on professionalism. I surely don't think this experience warrants anyone to lose their job, but I strongly caution future customers looking to price out the expense of this company's services to be wary of additional charges that may arise at the time of service.
"Per our Pet Urine Removal Treatment Facts and Waiver Form, which the customer signed and initialed before we began clearing, “…Because it is an expensive product, we recommend starting off with the minimum amount of P.U.R.T II necessary, with the understanding that in some cases we will need to return to treat areas that are more concentrated with urine. If this situation arises, the application fee will be waived and the only charge to return will be the additional P.U.R.T II that is required to treat the urine areas.” The customer was upset because we advised her we might need to use 2-3 gallons but only started off with two. But she signed the waiver, saying that she knew this might be the case but that we are more than willing to come back and retreat the areas, only charging for the specific product being used- no application fees, cleaning fees, fuel charges, etc. She called back, saying there was still a smell and we immediately scheduled an appointment to come back out. The customer was unwilling to spend more money, and so at cost to us, we applied a sanitizer, free of charge. She called back and spoke to Mike, one of the two owners, he wanted to send a manager- We sent Sean, one of our managers, out the same day. His assessment was that the carpets were in very bad condition-they are very old, there is extensive urine damage and a very thin padding. This leads us to believe the carpets aren’t the only problem. The padding and/or subflooring may be a bigger issue. Customer also admits that her carpets are not new. Customer signed waiver, which also states “. . . I agree to the stated price for the services rendered and understand that there is no guarantee- implied or expressed- that all urine odors and urine stains will be removed.” – (see attached copy of signed waiver) She vacuumed and had lots of hair pulled out of her vacuum. –this is a clear indication of how bad the carpets were – we were willing to come back out again, customer unwilling to let us come back. It is our policy to take care of our customers. We stand by our work and do everything we can to take care of the customers. In this particular case, the customer is being asked to pay just the cost of the product used and nothing else- the labor fees, re-cleaning fees, etc. These costs would all be covered by us. She is not letting us do so. In all honesty, this job ended up costing us money. We feel we have done everything we can to take care of her problem because she is not willing to do everything she can. Because it’s going to cost her a little bit more money, which would be far less than replacing the carpets, she is unwilling to do anything more. We have been in business for more than 25 years and are one to f the largest carpet cleaning company in the Portland area. We deal with carpet damage from per urine on a regular basis. We have many similar situations where we come back to a customer’s home to apply more of the P.U.R.T II, in which case, not only is the customer completely satisfied and the urine completely gone, they become or remain regular customers. Many of our customers have been with us for 25 years because we stand by our work and take care of them."
