Old House Painting & Restoration
About us
House restoration and painting, specializing in original wood windows prior to 1950. Judy is the sole owner and licensed contractor. I can do much of the work at the customer's house, or bring it to my shop for extensive repair or restoration. NOTE: Due to recent physical limitations and family conflicts, I won't be taking any restoration accounts for the remainder of 2017. Thanks for your patience! Judy

The only minor problem that I can see is that she works a later shift than most arriving close to noon rather than early in the morning. Also she sometimes arrives later than expected. But she always does a very good job.
We have had her do a long string of smaller projects (at least 8 over a six month period), and she almost feels like a part of the family now. In some cases we worked along side her (in order to minimize cost, as she was billing by the hour) - and the atmosphere was great.
When it was done the plumbing was good, walls that had been opened had been replaced and looked better than ever, and most important to me, everyone got along with each other and used their expertise to come up with good solutions.
This was a fairly utilitarian project, but even then I could sense Judy's interest in color and design. Also, I've hired a few other painters in the past, and nobody prep's walls as thoroughly as Judy!
We bought our 97-year-old home in the summer of 2011. It is a lovely and charming home that has been maintained and updated in many ways, but there were some areas that had been neglected for decades and needed work, including the double-hung windows. On the outside, many windowsills showed serious water damage, with peeling paint and cracked, deteriorating wood. On the inside, some windows were inoperable because either the ropes were broken or the frames had split and had been improperly “repaired”, and other windows had been painted shut or had broken glass. Besides the windows, some rafter tails under the eaves of the house had even worse water damage; the rotted wood was far beyond any simple sort of repair. AND all of the paint contained lead, which we knew would require additional precautions and expense.
Judy was up to the challenge; she tackled these eyesores and weaknesses of our home - not just willingly but enthusiastically - and transformed them into strengths! She happily and tirelessly (it seemed) scraped, filled, sanded, patched and painted, and even took a couple of windows home with her overnight to work on them in her shop. Throughout the process, she preserved and restored the character and charm that made us fall in love with our lovely Old House in the first place.
Words are insufficient; you can go to her website and see before-and-after photographs of our windows and other areas that she worked on (sometimes joined by her equally-skilled husband Chuck).
Judy’s knowledge and expertise and her hands-on skill and craftsmanship are excellent. Throughout the process, she was professional and personable, reliable, flexible, resourceful, and committed to caring for our home as if it were her own. Her charges were very competitive, and she stayed within the estimate we agreed on, even though she willingly put in some additional time and effort to “do the job right” (for example, Chuck corrected the roof-drainage problem that had caused the water damage under the eaves, to prevent similar damage in the future).
It was a real pleasure to work with Judy, and we definitely look forward to doing it again. Her talents are not at all limited to just wood and windows - whatever type of work might be needed, we know that we and our home will be in good hands!
"Thanks Member for your wonderful review! I look forward to working with you and your family in the near future. I know you'll enjoy your Old House for many years to come!"
