"Here is a customer that never mentioned a word to me about being unhappy. The only thing that was mentioned about the acid washing was that the homeowner (or renter) said that he knows what acid washing looks like. I explained we acid washed the chimney and actually the whole fireplace. The house was probably built in the forties or fifties. Having been exposed to the weather and being smoked stained all those years, there is only so much you can clean. Never promised that the job would look brand new, but did promise a thorough and correct repair. That is exactly what he received. The fireplace is one of the nicest things on the exterior of his house. Wish he would post pictures of the work, as they would speak for themselves. I never even met [Member Name Removed] , I just dealt with the person who was living in the house. Not sure why I was given a "D" rating on my pricing. I gave him a bid and he acknowledged everything on it, including the price. The final price was the exact same as the bid. If he did not like the price I'm not sure why he hired me. [Member Name Removed] also says an "f" for responsiveness. When we agreed on the work to be done I said it would be done with in a month, and that we would not do it in the rain. All this was in the contract. [Member Name Removed] also mentions that the final job looks good and he would hire me again. I would pass on the work. I don't like the fact that he agrees to the price then rates me a "D" on my price. I also don't like the fact that he hides behind a keyboard and complains, being he never once called or met me in person on the jobsite. Either this house is his rental house or he is doing a report on Angie's List for a friend. I called the homeowner to see when the bill would be paid, because it was over two weeks past due, and that is when he asked about the acid wash. Rather then calling me when he had a question, the homeowner waits until I contact him about the bill. Another reason I would pass on any future work with him. I have been in business 17 years. I know masonry quality masonry work and masonry pricing. He got a GOOD deal on BOTH. Adam Luchs, Marathon Masonry,Inc."
was Adam's quote one of the most reasonable, he was by far the most responsive.
I could tell that, even though it was a small job, he wanted to be accurate
with the pricing. He asked several questions and requested pictures then
promptly provided an estimate. I hired him for the job and he and one other
person came over and had it done in no time. When they finished, Adam charged
me less than he originally quoted as the job went more quickly than expected. I
had them remove some brick shelves built into a brick fireplace surround so I
could hang a painting there. Adam offered to come back when I had the painting
to install it (as it requires a specific drill bit and screw). I highly
recommend Adam and Marathon Masonry and will definitely call again for any
future masonry needs.
Adam gave us a bid on sealing the brick but said that we would be able to do it. He has since emailed the name of the product and the suppliers name. He also assisted me in finding a gutter company.
In addition to my job, he was FORCED to work with the arborist in order to have the roots cut so the same thing would not happen again. He even offered to cut the roots -- but admitted had no training in this.
Initially, his estimate was too steep for me and he worked with me to lessen it. That was very good, but the BEST part was his keeping me informed every step of the way.
Another remarkable thing, he went above-and-beyond by fixing an accident blatantly caused by never reported nor repaired by the arborist who cut the electric line to my ground lighting. Adam went to the store and bought the supplies to fix this without my knowledge without cost to me!
The job was to be done in one day; however, the bricks were not the exact match so he had to order them and return another day. He let me know this and came back the next working day (as the 4th of July was in between). By doing so he did a seamless and beautiful job. No, PERFECT job.
Adam was better than I expected or even could imagine. His work ethic and communication were remarkable. It is without reservation that I would recommend him to anyone.
