LARIAT ROOFING

A few pieces of roof fell off, but it was because we did it in off season vs. summer when it can be sealed. It looks fine and functions great.

Russ (owner of Lariat Roofing and Construction) impressed us with his sales skills. After we sorted a half-dozen competing bids, and even though Russ was NOT our lowest bidder, he won us over. We hired Russ to remove an aging torch-down low-slope roof from our home, to repair dry rot, and then install insulation boards, heat-welded TPO membrane + flashing, and new gutters.
Experience while the  $14,100+ project (+ T&M for dry rot repairs) was in progress was OK, they left a mess, took longer than expected, and they even admitted to rushing through work. But we took things in stride; thinking this was typical of roofing contractors.
In early December 2013, Russ said our project was complete.
By January 2014, rainwater was leaking in from the roof.
Other experiences:
* A professional inspection concluded that installed materials where not as described in contract: a classic bait and switch.
* Russ argued against everything from pulling permits, manufacturer specifications, a certified installer's inspection report, and established building codes.
* Russ's defects ran the gamut of open membrane cuts, missing sealants, missing vent clamps, overheated/melted materials, missing roof edging and flashings, inadequate membrane anchoring, bowing gutters, and product installed upside down with packing materials still attached.
* Russ filed a lien, but our single settlement meeting lasted mere hours (with no payment or performance requirements by us; just Russ agreeing to release the lien, plus a few other things)
* Russ then breached the settlement, which necessitated months of letters, before he finally performed as promised.
* We had to hire another roofing company to fix Russ's ?work". They ultimately had to touch/fix just about everything Russ's team touched, including completely removing and replacing over 600 sq-ft of roofing membrane. The 2nd roofing company was paid well over $7,000 for their work.
In-all, our experience with Lariat Roofing & Construction, and especially Russ, was a complete nightmare. Russ also lost what has so-far amounted to about $10,000 in referral business; what a shame, he seemed like such a nice guy at first...

We were very impressed by Russ's professionalism and his obvious concern that we get an excellent roofing job and one that addressed problems that shoud not be ignored.  He treated us as special people who deserved the best workmanship possible from his company. He was very helpful in picking out the color and style of the roof and came out to the house twice to do so.  He was very easy to work with and his crew was so efficient and also kept the noise and mess to a minimum.  We were also impressed by how strategically and effectively they dealt with a weather interruption.  We highly recommend Russ and Lariat Roofing with full confidence.
