expertise he demonstrated during the walk through and his knowledge of different brands of paint. I was not disappointed.
Cost of the project varied based on the scope of work involved. I had painting that needed to be done as the result of damage from a fireplace fire and I had painting that needed to be done related to age, wear & tear. This included fireplace, ceiling, bench seats, 9 doors with crafts molding, an entry hall and coat room. I have been impressed with the quality of his workers. They were sincere, knowledgable, and hard working. They had professional integrity and pride of workmanship and were very respectful of my house. The work included prepping, caulking, patching woodwork, priming, and painting (both brush and spray. They clearly knew their craft and did a great job with my home. Be aware, this is a small company and timelines will be factored in accordingly. I will use them again.
Fast forward to the summer of 2014. We called John because there were about 3 spots where the paint had chipped or cracked. He came out, looked at the spots, and promised to get back with us to schedule a time for his company to complete the touch up. We never heard from him.
In the summer of 2015 we contacted him again, as the 3 spots had grown to about a dozen places where the paint was chipping or bubbling. When John discovered that the scope of the repair work had grown, he balked at having to perform it. He claimed that he was not responsible for the repairs because we had had another company do some lead abatement work on the home and that company had primed certain parts of the exterior. Our response to him was that back in 2009 at no time did he indicate that his warranty was limited by the fact that another company had done some of the priming. In fact, if he had had concerns with how the priming had been done, he should have raised them then and explicitly told us that this might impact his warranty.
After some back and forth John agreed to allow his person to complete the repairs we identified. However, his person left at the end of the day without checking in with us. They actually missed one of the areas we pointed out to them.
We are left extremely saddened and disappointed at these turn of events. If you consider using John, be sure to get any warranty in writing and be sure to grill him to ensure there are no caveats to what he his guaranteeing.
I rated them B for responsiveness because it was hard to catch John on the cell phone. He's a busy guy, but sometimes it was difficult to get a hold of him. Part of the problem may have been that we didn't hire him directly so perhaps he called the general contractor back. Surely it would be better if you were hiring him directly.
