We had Interstate Roofing come out to do an emergency roof repair on part of our roof that was causing a leak in the wall. They came out promptly, they did the repair, and everything was fine. But, they also told us that it was a temporary fix, and that we would need to have some further work done in the future. They sent us an estimate for this work. Several months later, we called to see if the estimate was still valid and to arrange to have the work done. The person who answered the phone said that the appointment person was on vacation or something, and took our number. No call back. I called them again several weeks later, expressing my concern that I had not been called back. They took my number again, and again I never heard back from them. As far as I know we are not unpleasant customers, and we pay our bills on time, so I am puzzled as to why we were never called back. We will find a new roofing company if they do not want our business.

It was fantastic. I recommend them to everyone. The estimator who did the job, Tom, was a constant professional, thorough, easy to talk to. The job was done competently and efficient. They even finished under budget. After receiving other bids they offered more for less also. I was very pleased.

I had phoned them twice and asked for a quote to replace my roof. They never sent anyone out, never provided a bid and I never heard from them. I cannot speak to the quality of their work as they did not provide me with a bid to even consider them. my low rating is based strictly on their nonresponsiveness.

Terrible. The first time Interstate installed fans in my vinyl tpo roof, they didn't measure right before they cut and put one of my fans a joist over from where it belonged. I had to spend $160 on some custom slanted ductwork to connect the ventilation hood to the fan. This second occasion, I admonished the estimator and the crew to measure before they cut, so everything went in where it was supposed to go. Of the 3 fans they put in, one was in the wrong place. I was livid. I insisted they send a different crew to move the incorrectly installed fan, which they agreed to do at no charge, but the "crew" they sent did not understand plain English at all, or speak it too either. Every time I told him what needed doing, he replied that he would do something else. I lost confidence. These people are not capable of modifying a tpo vinyl roof competently. Though the job is botched and unfinished, I am looking for a new contractor as interstate roofing has proven they are not competent to do modifications,I do not think their roofers are as competent at arithmetic and language than most 2nd graders.

Interstate Roofing will not tolerate racism toward our employees, nor will allow our employees to be subjected to name calling, ridicule and screaming of profanities. As such, we politely offered the customer a referral to another contractor and billed for only a fraction of our time.

Wow - what a refreshingly great experience. From the first contact with Ronnie, our sales associate, to frequent conversations with Tresa in the office, and finally the extremely competent guys doing the work, Interstate Roofing is a first class operation all the way. I did have a lower bid in hand but was not thrilled with the prospect of going with the "cheapest". I also liked the idea of going with a firm that could do all the work - they are not a selling organization that turns around and farms out your job to a local contractor. Interstate will be there in 10, 20 or 30 years if I have any concerns. The other consideration for me was that our house was going to be very demanding to work on - dreadful pitch and lots of valleys, hips and ridges, It was critical to find a company that knew what they were doing and had demonstrated competency. Ronnie rolled up on time, provided a thorough estimate for all the services we could consider. I had a number in my head and told Ronnie that if he was below that number then they would get the job - he was $200 below that number. We eventually did add in the new gutters, some additional soffit vents, and an extended warranty - all which seemed surprisingly affordable. Tresa in the office is amazing - great personality, loves her job, and is just a joy to work with on the phone. Our job was delayed slightly due to weather (no problem) and they agreed to move it out further to accommodate our schedule. The crew is very polite, was courteous of our landscape and property, and can crank out the work. Our house was done quickly and looked better than I expected. Gutters and downspouts went on a week later without a hitch. Yes, it is very expensive to replace your roof - yet another reason why I wanted the best company I could afford to do the work. You should absolutely consider Interstate Roofing on your job.
Description of Work: Removal of existing cedar shake roof, gutters and downspouts. Sheathing the entire roof with plywood and installing new soffit vents, continuous ridge vent, new sky lights, flashing, presidential triple laminate comp shingles, gutters and downspouts.

Requested quote for roofing, gutters, and siding replacement (including painting) on their website. I was contacted the next day in the late evening. The caller didn't seem to know about my request for siding, he was calling about gutters and roofing only. I informed him about the siding. Appointment set for the following Thursday at 2pm. I arrived home from an errand to find him sitting in front of my house at 12:30pm, an hour and a half early. We went to the site. We discussed the roofing and gutters. He couldn't give me information on the siding other than they would use HardiePlank . I asked if someone would come out about the siding and was told "no, they would do the quote in the office." An incomplete quote was emailed to me dated 5/8/13. It neglected to quote new sheeting on three sides of the house due to after removal of the LP siding you are left with exposed studs and insulation. Requested re-quote which was received 5/14/13 which was $3000.00 higher. Total cost of job now $25,300.00. The job was given to a competitor for slightly more cost after receiving the most comprehensive quote I have ever seen. It included the model of Hardieplank siding, re-sheeting, type of nails used, caulking brand and model, gutter type and size, complete roofing details, etc. I have not had any follow-up calls from Interstate regarding the quote. They apparently don't feel the a job for $25,000.00 is worth finding out why they didn't get the job.

The job took two full days to complete and the total job went very well, One young man was on the roof cleaning the entire time by hand. The rood is tile, I do not allow power washing we had a bad experince at another time. Chris hauled tiles up the ladder on to the roof by hand a few at a time. They cut open all the valleys to allow for better drainage. I had installed gutter guards a couple of years ago and they were not working very well, they had to remove and clean out all the gutters. Some tiles were broken so they had to be replaced, they inspected and resealed the top peaks of the roof as well. I'm sure all of my vocabulary on roofing is not correct but they did a fine job and will use there services again.

My recommendation for anyone reading this review and contemplating replacing an exisiting asphalt and especially a cedar shake roof on thier home: CALL INTERSTATE FIRST. No other roofing company came close to what Interstate does. Here's how the bidding process went. All these companies are located in the SW side. Beginning in Spring 2012: Bidder #1: No volunteered information about the process, he was impatient, didn't ask me if I had questions, then rude when I wanted more information about types of roofing. Very unprofessional. Bid was $2500 more than Interstate and did not include additional inlet vents. His behavior was appalling. Bidder #2: May 2013: fairly decent presentation BUT the company he works for installs only CRC roofing made in Canada. I did thorough research as I had never heard of CRC before. CRC is another company name adopted by IKO. CRC shingles are IKO shingles. IKO is involved in a current class action law suit brought by thousands of customers who found their roofing products to be inferior. 95% of IKO's roofing material is named in this law suit. This roofing contractor does apply one of the 5 IKO/CRC shingles not named in the lawsuit. But it is still an IKO product. Customer and contractor blogs in the US and Canada are very critical of CRC shingles. This roofing contractor also DID NOT bid for additional roof air inlet vents. This subject becomes very important later. Read on. Bidder #3: When calling for the bid the office staff told me the bid would take 30 mins. This seemed like they wanted to set a limit on their time from the outset. And he did! The guy shows up, introduces himself, hands me a brochure, his card and says "I'm going to measure your roof." He used a satellite based gps imaging system. He gave a clear message that he was not going to spend much time with me in fact with he was nearly done and when I asked him a few questions he appeared irritated. HIS timeline not mine. Also he said 28 additional air inlet vents were needed, 28! He gave no specifics as to why save for I needed more. Really! I am looking at spending thousands of dollars for this kind of treatment? Then he left saying I would get the bid in a couple days. Yeah no. Bidder 4 was Interstate. See more soon. Bidder # 5: arrived at my home unannounced after I had accepted Interstate's bid. Did not call ahead. Got on my roof and began measuring. I told him to come down and explained the bidding was closed. Sean Clay, the rep from Interstate, arrived to our appointment on time. Sean comes across as friendly, genuine and knowledgable. He spent nearly one hour measuring the roof and writing up the bid. The second hour was spent giving me infomation about their roofing process. At no time did he ever try any pressure sales techniques. Sean just kept providing information, educating! I knew this was the company for us. Thier bid was the lowest of all. I was more interested in getting a quality job done than getting the lowest bid. I was totally impressed. Interstate delived their drop box the week before. The roofing crew arrived on time on May 28, 2013. The roof was completed at the end of the day on Friday May 31, 2013. This crew of three worked very efficiently, carefully, in a conscientious manner in close coordination with each other. The division of labor had been worked out some time ago. Roofing is very demanding work. Watching these guys work was a true pleasure and reassured me that my decision was correct. They took great pride in a job well done. The second day a helper arrived in charge of all cleanup, material handling and any miscellaneous tasks the roofers couldn't do. Every day the grounds around the house were thoroughly cleaned of all debris. The roof looked perfect. The next week the residents projects manager came by installing a new seal under the one skylight in front. It had to be removed to roof under it. this was no extra charge. About 2 weeks later, Bill the carpentry manager installed the 14 air inlet vents. Roof inlet vents are located on the outside of the house at the soffit level just under the roof. Sean had explained the critical nature of the correct ratio of outlet to inlet roof vents. Bill reinforced this with even more information. If you are a homeowner replacing a cedar shake roof with an asphalt shingle material you WILL NEED MORE INLET VENTS. This is critical. If you are replacing exisiting asphalt shingles make sure you have had adequate venting. Cedar shake roofs breathe to a degree. Asphalt shingle roofs don't. As Bill explained this becomes a critical issue not in warmer seasons but in colder months. Here's why: the warm air from home heating, cooking, showering including moisture in the air rises to the attic. There, in colder months it meets COLD air. Without adequate ventilation of all this warm air and moisture meets the cold air from the outside forming it's own weather system! You get condensation where it shouldn't be starting with the first cold season after you have gone from cedar shake to asphalt without additional inlet vents. In a real sense it rains in your attic. You should not accept bids from a roofer who won't add more inlet vents if you are replacing cedar shakes with asphalt shingles. Two of my bidders didn't even mentjon inlet vents. This is incompetence and gross irresponsibility. I advise homeowner's to get a bid from Interstate first and not go with the lowest bid of all because you never know what kind of job you will get. Do your own research well ahead of time. Ask your bidder a LOT of questions. See what they volunteer, what they do and don't say. Angie's list is a good startthen it is buyer beware. Some roofers want to use old school materials like 15 or 30 lb. oil impregnated felt underneath the asphalt shingles. Yes it will work but this stuff is outdated and out performed by new synthetic materials from Certainteed, GAF and Owens Corning. Contractors use this stuff to increase margin. Avoid IKO/CRC shingles. Read about them. Just call Interstate.
Description of Work: Interstate Roofing tore off a 24 year old cedar shake roof on a 2400 sq ft. two story house. It was replaced with over 2000 sg ft., of GAF Timberline HD Lifetime warranted architectural asphalt shingles. The roof trusses were covered with 1/2" CDX 4'x8' plywood decking. The GAF roof system was then installed starting with Tiger Paw synthetic underlayment (vs. old school felt underlayment) , the starter course of shingles then the asphalt shingles. All metal flashing including roof drain valleys were replaced along with a new seal under the skylight. All outlet vents were replaced with new units and 14 attic inlet vents were added at a later date. Read more of my review discussing the importance of the correct ratio of outlet to inlet roof vents.

Everything was so smooth, it was kind of surreal. It almost took them more time to set up their ladder than to repair the roof, it was so seamless. They came inside my house and they looked from the attic, they patched it from the outside after they repaired the set of framework on the inside, then they put more patchwork over that and then they patched the middle roof. It was pretty awesome. I have a metal roof and they specialize in metal roofs, so I will definitely be using them if I need any work done.

I was promised that someone would come inspect the damages several times. There were "no shows" because of vacation days and other work on other jobs. Meanwhiile, I had stayed home awaiting their promised phone calls and appointments. In the end after several days and much distress, they did repair, replace and paint the damaged siding as well as fix the improperly installed flashings. The roof made it through the winter with no obvious problems.
Description of Work: August must be the worst month for this company to do it's "professional" work. Most of their regular employees who were supposed to have been assigned to my roof job were on vacation so inexperienced roofers, supervisors were not available to fulfill the promised quality workmanship. The roofers left several major holes in the my siding as they were tearing of the original roofing. They did not inform me nor the job supervisors of their problems. When they "fiinished" installing the new roof, the substitute supervisor inspected the job and determined that the work was finished and well done. I happened to find the holes in my siding after the work was signed off. My house is two story and I could see the flaws from the ground. I then hired an outside contractor to come inspect the roof work. He also found improperly installed flashings. I immediately called the company. They promised to come review any damages.

Response from Interstate Roofing
I am so sorry to hear that this customer is anything other than thrilled with the resolution provided by Interstate. The roof installation was beautiful. Unfortunately, the manner in which the siding was attached made it very difficult for us to remove and reattach, in order to install our flashings. As a result, we did have a very small amount of siding damaged. It could have easily been repaired with a little wood putty (as it was very minimal), but as the customer requested, we replaced and painted all of the damaged siding entirely. As for the flashing, nothing was "improperly installed". Instead, we were short one foot of T metal and six inches of roof-to-wall flashing. The superintendent knew this and installed the flashing at the time of final inspection. The other contractor (her painter) notified the customer in the time between when the crew left and our superintendent arrived. Finally, the last point of concern was a missed appointment. We are regrettably at fault. She is correct in that a member of our carpentry team scheduled an appointment and then took a vacation day. We were and will continue to be very apologetic for this oversight. I was under the impression that the customer was happy with the overall outcome.

We had choices of what sort of roofing to use. The guys from Interstate were very good. They were very professional in their estimating and selection process. There were a lot of different shingles and styles to choose from. Once they started the work, they did it quickly and they cleaned up after themselves. They went around with a magnetic thing along the ground to make sure they got all the stray nails which had fallen into the garden. They delivered a port-a-potty to the front of the house, for the guys to use, which we appreciated because there were 5 or 6 guys on our roof. We didn't really want a parade of people going in and out of the house. It was supposed to take 4 or 5 days but it took a little longer because there were a number of days it was pouring rain. I would still say it took 4 or 5 working days. We had a number of estimates from various people and Interstate's estimate was pretty much in the middle. We liked the way they presented themselves. We liked the fact that they were not pushy, they were really professional and they explained everything in a thorough manner. We just liked them overall. There is a 30 year warranty on the roof.

Skylight was leaking. Called 3 different companies and Interstate told me exactly what it would cost (hourly $ details) and estimated the possible issue over the phone. I know that's not always possible, but the fact that they had this kind of thing dialed in made me feel good about using them. AND they said they'd have someone right out. Pablo Hernandez called me about 10 minutes later and said he was only 20 minutes away. He and another guy showed up right when he said he would, diagnosed the issue and fixed it up in a little less than 1 hr. He fixed a cracked flashing, removed the skylight and inspected inside and out before reinstalling it. The Skylight was pretty new so it didn't need replacing. Very clean crew (wore shoe coverings inside) and left 0 mess. Problem seems solved for now. Thank you.

It took three times to finally stopped the leak. The first two times they re caulked around the pipe, hoping that would stop the leak, it didn't so finally they replace the pipe. We called three roofing companies for estimates. We selected Interstate because the man who did the estimate (whose name eludes me) was the only one who took pictures with his phone of the areas of our roof that needed work. He provided a thorough explanation of what needed to be done. The work was scheduled expeditiously and was done on the date selected. After the work was done, we noticed significant leaks in two bedrooms and the dining room that we thought were going to be fixed by the re-roof. Interstate responded quickly to remedy the problem (next day). However, at the next significant rainfall, we noticed further leaking in the living room. Although Interstate came out quickly, we still wonder whether the work was done completely, even though we haven't noticed any significant leakage since. The men who did the work were friendly and worked hard. I don't know if it's customary to have a roofing company have to come out three times for the same job, but Interstate had to for us, and that's why we gave a "C" grade for quality and what has made us doubt we would use them again.

They did a good job. We are very happy with our roof. They were on the higher end of the bids, but they had built up a strong reputation in their quality and worksmanship. We choose upper echelon products, so we understood what we were paying for and that we got what we paid for.
Description of Work: We had a brand new roof, gutters and downspouts put on. They have done a number of homes in our neighborhood.
