Matt Hopkins arrived on time for our appointment and conducted a very professional inspection. He was very thorough and explained everything at issue that he found with the structure. He provided a report to us the same day. Our real estate broker was also impressed and since he had never worked with Matt before, he said the he would add Hopkins Home Inspection to his roster of recommended inspectors.

Matt was prompt, communicative, thorough, and responsive to all questions. He prepared an excellent summary of all strengths and weaknesses of my potential home. This information was crucial to my decision to buy the home and the information proved accurate over time. Matt also came out to help assess a problem and give his feedback on another occasion. He was very helpful and knowledgable.

Matt was very professional and respectful of our time restraints. We were communicating long distance, but that wasn't an issue at all, he was completely available.

Everything went really well. Matt was there on time, and did a very thorough job of checking every detail. We were there for most of it, and he stopped a few times to give us a little info, and let us know how things were going, but promised we'd learn more after, when he gave us his finished report.
After the inspection, Matt walked us around and showed us what he found, and again said there would be more detailed photos in his report. He stayed well past what was promised since we had so many questions. He never hurried us, or tried to make it short. He was totally pleasant to talk to, and very knowledgeable and detail oriented, even more than we had expected.
Afterwards, when we got the full report that evening, we were even more impressed by the amount of information that he was able to not only compile, but deliver in a very well laid out PDF with pictures broken down by all the areas of the house. The inspection report not only covered things that we should address right away, but some practical information about general upkeep and maintenance on some different areas and mechanics of the house. We still, months later, refer to his report for reference.
We would certainly recommend Matt, and would use him if we ever need his services again.

Matt immediately responded to our inquiry and came out a few days after we talked. He spent about three hours inspecting the house and had a number of good observations. Although I could not attend the inspections (I was still living in Vermont at the time), Matt was very thorough in his report and called to go over the report in detail later that day. Excellent. I met Matt at the home I purchased and he explained how the process works in detail. After the inspection he walked me through the home, showing me what he had documented; good things, areas of concern, norms for new houses, etc. He patiently answered all of my questions (I know nothing about houses) and sent the completed report to me that evening. This firm should serve as a model for other home inspectors. The experience was stellar, from my first contact with Matt Hopkins until I received my detailed inspection report. At the outset, Matt was able to accommodate my request for an inspection on rather short notice. He sent me documents to review in advance of the appointment, and was entirely prompt on the date of the session. That's when my education began: not only did he thoroughly inspect the home's various systems, inside and out, he also shared information about how to maintain the house over time, noting potential "warning signs" of problems I should be watchful for as my home ages. Matt took the time to thoughtfully answer each of my seemingly never ending questions. The report, sent to me in short order, memorialized the issues with the home clearly. I'm a very, very satisfied customer, and would recommend this firm highly.

I am a realtor in Portland and have had clients hire Matt Hopkins over 50 times in the past couple of years. I continue to refer to him... His inspections are honest, thorough and presented in full detail (like 40 page reports) to home buyers. I've had a number of clients say that they really didn't expect that much - that they got to know the home a lot more than they'd thought they would. On the darker side, I have been a party to real estate transactions turning south precisely because of the information Matt has provided. I appreciate that so much. A questionable foundation, plumbing system, etc... these are big deals for new buyers and Matt is not afraid to tell the truth. For the average home, in the average price range, those 40 pages tend to be well described and documented information about the home's flaws, and formatted in a balanced way for clients. His presence for the "walk through" is great... always willing to spend a bit more time with the client - to answer questions up front. Very professional inspection and good value for money. Report was well written and photographs with arrows clearly indicated the issues. The walk-around pointed out the major issues so that we could understand the issue. I would recommend this service.

Overall, Matt did an extremely thorough job. We have a 1926 house, and after encountering a small problem, decided to have a complete home inspection done to make sure we were aware of other potential issues.
