This is the second time we've hired Ha's Painting. We had them paint 26 doors and casings, base molding, stair railings and stair treads in the common areas of a three story 1920's brick apartment building in SE Portland.
That involved a considerable amount of prep as the woodwork was fairly beat up over the 30 years since it was last painted. We requested that they sand every surface, spot fill gouges, spot prime, and that they apply an oil based paint which we provided. If you've ever done this type of work you understand how much time and detail work is involved. They had a crew of 3-6 people and it took them almost two weeks to complete. Which I thought was pretty fast considering how much there was to do. I'm fairly certain it took longer than they had anticipated.
We would definitely hire them again. I'd recommend that your expectations about how well you want the job done from the begening are clear, and that you don't change the paint color. They seem operate with a high level of efficiency and you might feel bad if you mess with their time table.
The workers are friendly and Chimin is diligent enough about getting back to you and answering any questions. They cleaned up after each day and they were always on time.

We used Ha's painting in July 2009 to paint the exterior of the home we were selling. Please see my review from then. We were very pleased with the result and impressed with how hard they worked. The house we bought needed exterior painting, however, we had many other issues to deal with first. We worked with many different contractors over the next two years, some good and some bad. When it was time to have the house painted, we knew we wanted to use Ha's painting again. They are amazing. We wish all of the contractors we used could be like Ha's painting. The crew showed up at 8am on a Saturday morning ready to go. No waiting around. They got straight to work, and worked for 12 hours. They took Sunday off, but were back again early Monday morning ready to go. The final details of the painting were finished up Tuesday evening. We had given them some extra instructions about some brick work to be painted and other brick work to be left unpainted, etc. These instructions followed accurately. These painters work hard and they do a fantastic job.

They were not very responsive. They did not keep us well informed. We had to call them couple of times to find out things for ourselves. I would use their services in the future.

We liked everything about them. The job was done very well. We are very happy. It cost $4500 including the paint. While painting, they destroyed some plants. We would use them again in the future if necessary.

I had received several bids. I was almost certain that talking with Chi Ha was a waste of time. I was wrong. He was extremely knowledgeable and articulate. He took the time to ask a lot of questions and to provide advice. He gave us the most detailed quote of anyone. Nothing was left to chance. A large team of workers (hard workers) arrived to prepare surfaces, to mask, and then paint. The foreman was easy to work with and didn't make excuses. The paint and trim were professionally done. A neighbor complained about a few paint chips blowing into her yard so they erected a very tall barrier and took care of the neighbor. When they left, every bit of paint and scrap was gone. I kept waiting for a problem that never happened. The bid was exactly accurate. We paid when the job was complete. I found this contractor on Angie's List, searching for a nearby one. I'm glad I did.

They were always on time and let us know what they were going to do when they returned for the next session. They worked tirelessly; I believe the first day they worked about 14 hours, pretty much straight. We are pleased with the work; the house was last painted in the mid 1990's and was sorely in need of a new paint job. We are especially impressed with all the work which went into cleaning the windows and storm windows before they were put back up. We also love our newly painted patio with the "gritty" paint, which makes for much safer walking around. The back patio before this paint job was very slippery and unsafe to walk around on.

They did an excellent job did everything they said they were going to. They were very fast and efficient, large crew, lots of equipment, cleaned everything up very well after they were done, and were impressive to watch. The end result was high quality.

Ha's crew did a fantastic - and fast - job. They completed the entire job in three days during a very hot heat wave in July. They scraped, caulked, and fixed/replaced broken pieces of siding (Our house has asbestos shingles and they used a cement shingle. It was something we had talked about before the project but wasn't figured into the orginal bid, so it was an extra we didn't know about. But their repairs of the broken siding looks so great, we didn't mind paying the extra cost). Ha was very good about returning phone calls and emails and patient with our last minute color choices.

Once they got to work they were absolutely great and quick, and provided great quality. We did have a harder time getting the start date scheduled. They had my down payment for about a year and a half. There are not a lot of contractors that will do the prep work with heat guns and really get down to bare wood. I felt pretty confident of their job. They have not quite made it back to do the one last thing and that is because I haven’t emailed them with the days that would be okay with me. Everything till now has been fine and I guess he will get back to me.

When we first moved to Portland last year, we looked at a house that was on the market, but was in the process of being restored. My husband, a general contractor, took note of the excellent job the painters were doing and wrote down the name of the company. We ended up buying another fixer-upper and decided to call Ha's Painting for a bid for interior painting, based on our impressions of the work he did at the other house we looked at. We were still out of state during the first phase of our remodeling and Ha finished all interior work before we moved in. He was very professional in dealing with the flakiness of the general contractors we had hired to oversee our initial remodel, and worked around several of their scheduling gaffes. We were amazed by the speed with which he finished the job, and the overall quality of the work. We didn't hesitate to call Ha again a few months later when it was time to paint the exterior and do some painting for our kitchen remodel. Again, they did a terrific job. They worked quickly and the paint turned out beautifully. They didn't hesitate to fix a few minor items that needed further attention. One weekend, my husband wanted to speed up some of the work he was doing in the kitchen since he had to be out of town for a week. He wanted some of the kitchen cabinet pieces that Ha had taken to his workshop the prior day to paint so that he could finish installing trim. Ha met him at his workshop on a Sunday so that he could pick up the pieces he needed. Other than delays due to the weather, they were punctual and finished in the estimated amount of time. Ha usually schedules a large number of workers, so they finish quickly. We have gotten lots of positive feedback on our exterior paint job from neighbors and other folks walking by our house.
