We had a good idea of what we wanted from the beginning, but we needed Ed's expertise to draw it up and see to all the mechanicals, loads, footings, etc.  We also had  a pretty spare budget, and he worked with us to keep the costs down as best we could.  He listened and designed and suggested smart changes that we adopted, and he would send us his drawings by email and we could respond and discuss until we felt we had the right design.  Excellent teamwork!  Above and beyond all the design work, Ed, also did the engineering work for us, and at a much lower price than hiring an outside engineer.  He even took the final blueprints down to the city building permit office, talked them through the project, answered questions, and got the final permits.
We had a contractor we were planning to work with at the beginning, but it fell through.  Ed recommended one for us who was absolutely the best fit for us and our project, and worked with him through the building phase as issues came up, as they always do in a house remodel.
I know we couldn't have succeeded with this project without Ed's expertise and help.  He's the only guy I'd call to do a house remodel on this scale, or design a new house.

Working with Ed was wonderful and we've recommended him to others and intend to work with him in the future.
We enlisted Ed as a referral from our contractor after having a bad experience with an architect. Ed was professional and accommodating at the outset when we explained our situation, progress to date and when we expressed concerns about some of the standard language in the contract. It was apparent to us early on that Ed was a good listener and committed to delivering a well thought out solution. We had several meetings with him, in our home outlining our needs, wants and challenges as we saw them and he took measurements and went to work.
Ed promptly had a design for us to review and provide feedback on. His design was simple and exceptional - it incorporated all of the constraints with the added bonus of space that we wanted but didn't think we had room for (deck off the master, pantry and an office). He recommended a change to our roof line that turned our Brady Bunch ranch into a more classic craftsman. Ed spent extra time ensuring the deck met his standards and was a sustainable design for our rainy climate; he took great care in this aspect of the design.
Fast forward to the spring, when we were ready to build. After we had initial builds for the remodel and the addition - we made the decision to break the work into phases. Ed was prompt in updating our plans to meet our needs for Phase I and was very responsive to our builder which helped us meet deadlines. Additionally, Ed did much of the legwork through his contacts at the City to ensure that we were permit ready and his knowledge in this area was a critical success factor in getting the project kicked off on time. He had to work with several departments, some of which seemed a-typical, but the strength of his relationships and network there made the process seamless to us.
Ed worked well with our builder throughout the process of Phase I (which took 4.5 months) - the strength of their partnership was a critical success factor for the overall project. We only ran into one hiccup with the design during the build phase where the measurement of the fireplace was off slightly causing a window to be off center. We noticed it immediately and it was fixed promptly.
Overall, we highly recommend Ed - his creativity, follow through, commitment to high quality work and the strength of his professional network are worth every penny.

He was great from the design concepts to the finished design. All went well. All the sub contractors were able to perform their tasks without a question, as the drawings were clear.

Ed came to the sit several times before producing the first floor plan for our mountain lodge. We re-worked the design with him several times so that it reflected our style. Ed was very patient and the design is worthy of display in a magazine. Everyone is blown away when they see it!

Ed drew up several plans for an extensive addition and remodel of our 1919 home. He met with us several times as the project evolved and helped modify our plans.

He was very patient, knowledgeable and a great resource.

Ed, took pictures of the existing house and property, then created the design. He came up with ideas that hadn't occurred to us. He was very timely with his final blueprints.
