+ -1 moreThis was the 3rd time I've arranged for arborist services through Emerald Tree. I've been completely happy with the work and cost each time.
Description of Work: The work done this time was a general pruning of three 'middle-aged' flowing plum trees - a process that has continued over 6 years with wonderful results, as the crowns have filled out nicely providing lovely shade from the western exposure. A young linden had one limb clipped at my request (because it was rubbing against another), and a very large spruce in the wide strip along the street got a handsome trim - bringing the lower branches in quite a bit from their extension onto the sidewalk in 2 directions, but done subtly enough that you don't really notice that the lower limbs are significantly shorter than those taller. Complete clean-up when he and his crew (of 1) were done. Jim Wentworth talking about everything he did in detail beforehand so I knew what he would be doing and agreed with the plan. I highly recommend him and his business. Responsive, responsible and had the skills I was looking for at a very reasonable cost.

+ -1 moreWe have used Emerald Tree three times now to address tree issues in our yard. This most recent experience was no different than the others. We love Emerald Tree! Their prices are very reasonable (their bid was half that of one of their competitors) and they are willing to work with the homeowner to do the work the way you want it. For example, for our most recent job, they piled small limbs onsite because we wanted to use them to create bird habitat piles. They also left one of the three trees we had cut as a tall standing snag for additional habitat benefits. Our yard is certified Backyard Bird Habitat through Portland Audubon Society, so we appreciated their willingness to work within our needs. Finally, they bucked the larger wood to length so we could use it for firewood. We continue to be impressed by Emerald Tree!
Description of Work: Emerald Tree removed an ornamental tree and old plum tree to the ground to make say for new fruit trees. They also partially removed an old apple tree and girdled it to help create a snag (standing dead tree) for wildlife/bird habitat. Trees were bucked to length for firewood and limbs/debris piled per our instructions.

+ -1 moreWe used this company a few years back for about 2 years, after a limb fell out of an old oak. We wanted to be sure the tree was healthy and safe. 2 week after his last inspection for which he gave the tree a clean bill of health, the tree split in half. After we had the tree removed it was reinspected by another company. When the tree was inspected , it was shown to have substantial rot in the main trunk (25-30 vertical feet) in an area that is a common problem with oak trees. We had this arborist to come out and reinspect all of our other trees, many of which had problems that needed to be dealt with. I would recommend that you DO NOT use this company. He speaks a great line, but our experience was that he was completely wrong in his assessment. We were very lucky that the tree didn't fall on anyone or anything.

+ -1 moreHe arrived when he said he would arrive. He did both yards and nothing cleaner than when he scanned. He worked quickly and quietly because my wife works night shifts and slept through all of it.
Description of Work: I used Emerald Tree LLC on November 16th 2006. They gave an estimate to trim three trees in both front and backyards.

+ -1 moreEmerald Tree Company is the best. They are extremely reasonable. The owner of the company, Jim Wentworth, is a certified master harvester. He is one of the few in the state. He really knows what he is doing. I also keep telling my neighbors about him because I want them to keep their trees trimmed up so that it doesn’t come penetrating through my windows. So, couple of my neighbors uses him as well. His workers are great. He always comes himself on every job, of-course accompanied by his crew.
Description of Work: Emerald Tree Company comes out for service twice a year. They have been giving me tree service for nine years. We have hundred and twenty foot tall fir trees in our backyard. They ensure that none of the dead branches come piping through my house. They also check on the health of the trees. They have trimmed lots and lots of trees on our lot. They also shape it and keep it all nice looking.

+ -1 moreJim Wentworth Plato is a Master Arborist. A tree hugger at heart, he puts his finest efforts into making trees healthy so they will prosper. Jim has been taking care of our trees since 2001 when we moved into this home. The 130 foot monster Douglas Fir trees are a real chore to trim, but Jim and his crew do a fine job of it. I am very pleased with Emerald Tree services and will continue to use them as I have for the past 10 years. Their clean up makes it hard to tell they have ever been there.
Description of Work: Tree trimming at our home. We have trees from 8 feet to 130 feet and I would not ever let anyone but Jim Wentworth-Plato touch them.

Jim and his crew member worked very quickly and quietly (my wife works night shift and slept through all of it). Jim's encyclopedic knowledge ensures that your trees will be trimmed to maximize health and longevity. Thank you so much.
Description of Work: Two part; estimate and work. Estimate: Trim three trees in both front and back yard, inspect fourth for removal. Turns out, one of the three we wanted to trim needed to be cut down and the one we wanted cut down was actually healthier than we thought. Written and EXTREMELY detailed estimate w/ descriptions of cost calculations received, time scheduled. Poor weather (very windy, rainy) day of job; still completed. Cherry tree 40 ft and Fir tree 80 ft in back yard trimmed, cherry tree 35 ft felled. All in back yard very close to power/other lines. Mountain ash 45 ft trimmed front yard. All debris removed, burnable wood stacked.

He did all that was planned in a shorter time than scheduled, so he used the remaining time to trim a vibernum sitting next to the now defunct spruce. He did not charge extra for that job. The work was done with great care. Everything was cleaned up right away, leaving us with only a stump and some roots. The trimmed trees look great. A week later, as promised, the stump grinder folks came out and removed the last vestiges of the spruce. Jim is very affable and knowledgeable. He gave us good advice on how to plant a replacement for the spruce. All in all, it was a fine experience. We recommend him highly.
Description of Work: Jim and his assistants removed a very large spruce tree growing too close to the house with roots up-ending the side path, trimmed a large dogwood also growing too close to the house, removed a butterfly bush, and shaped a camellia.

+ -1 moreI had a very good experience with this company. The man that gave my wife the estimate, Jim I believe, was very knowledgeable. The crew arrived on time, worked very hard, did a great job cleaning up, and my trees look fantastic. They also finished a little early and Jim deducted the time from estimate, which I never would have thought to ask for. I really feel I couldn't have made a better choice.

I was told that Jim did not provide estimates on weekends or evenings and if I wanted him to look at the trees in my absence I would have to pay a $25 fee. Jim stated that this fee is designed to cut down on him wasting his time on giving bids to people who weren't likely to use him. He said it was not possible for him to discuss the trimming via cell phone as he walks around the yard. I am guessing he wants face to face time for his sales pitch. He also made it clear that he was very busy with many many bookings, therefore accomodating a potential customer was not a priority for him. Therefore, if you would like an estimate from him be prepared to take time off of work to meet with him.
Description of Work: I wanted 4 trees trimmed.

+ -1 moreThis was the fourth project we've used Jim for. He is getting increasingly busy and had to schedule this work several weeks in advance to get on his schedule. However, when we learned that the pruning would delay a remodeling project start, I called him and he rearranged his schedule to work us in a week earlier (and two days after my call). His work is top notch and he does a great job of clean-up after the pruning is completed.
Description of Work: Pruned two very large oak trees. One that was overhanging our existing structure and the other that needed pruning to make way for a remodeling project.

+ -1 moreJim came out in the evening to take a look at an apple that I was considering having removed. He was extremly knowledgeable and very friendly. He did not use jargan that was difficult to understand. Ultimately he found lots of wood rott and carpendar ants. His estimate was much less that I had though it would be, $140 to remove a medium-small tree and remove all debris. He even had advice on some other trees that I had. He also offered to take away a lot of other yard debris I had laying around for a very small fee. I made the agreement for them to come out and remove the tree and yard debris.
