The staff at East Portland Vet and owner Dr. Zehendner have cared for my dog for many years. Some people in the veterinary profession are afraid of large dogs, particularly certain breeds. Dr. Zehendner and staff are always so sweet with my dog and have never acted fearful around her or treated her differently due to her breed or size. It's easy to schedule an appointment, their quick to fill medicines and they are accommodating if you're pet isn't socialized with cats, etc. As my dog has aged, she has gotten fearful of leaving the house and they've helped with that to make sure her quality of life is as good as possible in the sunset years. He has performed two surgeries on her in the last eight years, both of which went great. They are always professional, caring, reasonably priced and knowledgeable. When I thought my dog had cancer, the staff called to check on me knowing I was so upset! How sweet is that? When Dr. Zehendner retires, I will be so sad because I trust him completely with my best friend! My dog loves him and always loved going to the office because she knew her friends were there and that they would be giving her treats and pets.

The last time we were in, the doctor was very upset that our cat weighed 13 pounds. He was cranky about it and argued back and forth with us. The new assistant was rough with our cat and caused the cat to bite her. They are wanting to sedate the cat for our next appointment which we do not want . We cancelled the appointment and are looking for a new vet. We were with him for 20 years and now have to leave.

He is a very good vet. He doesn t push unnecessary products or procedures. We usually go in fast and it is easy. I don t remember if I had to wait for more than five minutes unless there was a specific reason. The clinic is kind of a funny location, which is an old house. It doesn t look like much from the outside, but the cost is reasonable. My friend spends more time and money at another vet, so I think my vet is great.

Dr. Zehendner was the vet that helped me put my last dog to sleep. The clinic is great and very nice. If I still had pets I would use him because I had used him for 20 years.
