There are a lot of great shops in the Portland area, and DJM is our favorite. I did a lot of leg work to find the shop I wanted to work with on my Mk 5 GTI project. When I pulled in, I saw a large variety of VW and Audi vehicles, from stock to insane. Vanagons, Syncros, Eurovans, TDI Golfs and Jettas, Audi TT, A6, and lots of Rabbits and GTI. Not to mention several very nice R32. Some were customers who just came by to say hello and talk to everyone in the shop.
I talked with one of the owners, Joey Martstall, whose wife Carrie handles quotes and ordering for the shop and both were just so good to work with. We talked about the project, Joey gave me things to think about, and made sure a few weeks later when I was ready to get the work done, I was going to have the vehicle I wanted. The quote they prepared for me was very detailed, gave breakdowns on parts and labor that was clear to understand, and labor was combined for several small things saving me money. They worked with my parts requests to find the best deal too. And in the end my GTI is perfect. EXACTLY what I wanted.
From being in the shop on numerous occasions to talk about my project and get regular services done, I can say without question DJM is KNOWLEDGEABLE and PASSIONATE about VW and Audi - all models young and old. Anyone can walk in and ask a question about any VW or Audi related issue and get real honest opinions. From what I have seen, if they don't know about what you need (and I'll bet they would), they will find someone who does and make sure you are taken care of. Like rare parts for a Vanagon engine transplant? They do that. They know other mechanics and enthusiasts in the area and can make sure you get what you need. I was in the shop for an oil change last week, and a guy from Alaska called looking for a part! Our experience is that DJM is all about service and supporting customers the best. They are a great group of hard working folks who are passionate about anything VW, and are great car people who support local VW enthusiasts.

I drove 5 hours to Portland to help a friend on a Saturday, and even though I knew Double J was closed, went by to see where they were and look at the place. I am very picky about who works on my car, and like to see a business before I give them my money. When i got there, there were people in the garage area so I went in, and even though they were closed, the owner agreed to look at a computer problem I was concerned about. We found a solution, and even though they were officially closed they spent two hours working on my car and modifying the ECU software to better do what i wanted it to. I was impressed, not only with their ability, but to go the extra mile when they found out I was from out of town. I will hopefully be moving closer to them soon, and will certainly use them again. If you have any water cooled VW or an Audi, this is a great place.
