The experience did not go well. His bid which seemed to be pretty specific turned out to be, I didn't include this or that.  If it is one inch different to what he said, he would say that costs more.  He would say, I didn't include moving the sink, You really wanted handles on your cabinet, he would say, that is more and I thought you were going to pick those out yourself. He did not stick to the bid.  There were a lot of extra charges. He was nickle and diming you.  The quality of work was left to one guy that was a general do all.  I found out later, that the electrical wires behind the stove were not covered.  There were a lot of little things left undone. I am disabled, so it is hard for me to bend down and see the quality of their work. It was not good. They put the cabinets too close to the wall. They did manage to get this moved over. It was not quality work.  I think he thought that I was getting the cheap kitchen, so that is what you are going to get.  He thought that was perfectly fine for a cheap kitchen and I would not use him again.  I got fed up as he was constantly nickle and diming me, I had him finish the bare minimum and got the rest of the work done elsewhere. I don't care how cheap the cabinets are, they should be lined up correctly. They pretty much ended up dumping the entire job on one guy. He did everything.  I felt like he was out to really get me. He came in with one face and turned around with another one.

Working with Dixon Company was pleasant from the very beginning.
They listened and we worked out minor changes as the work progressed. The tear down person was careful and neat where walls had to be removed and ceilings changed( and he cleaned up very night before he left). This helped a lot so that the build and any rebuild needed for reunification went very well. To save money I did final painting myself so I know the walls and sheet rocking were well done. The floor refinisher who matched my 80 year old heart pine flooring did a spectacular job.
Overall we maintained the original budget and negotiated the few problems which were not his but with the house as in unexpected dry rot.
It was a big job with an excellent outcome and I would not hesitate to recommend Dixon Remodeling especially to those remodeling or repairing older Portland homes.

Bid process: owner, Rich Dixon, came for the bid, multiple times for clarification of various aspects of the bid, and in response to my questions. He was very respectful and responsive. Project mgr was responsive and effective. Project team was experienced, professional, friendly, highly skilled. Our home is 100 yrs old, and every repair/remodeling job uncovers surprises that could not have been predicted during the bid. In this case, during the gutter removal, it was discovered that some of the rafter tails had dry rot and might not have properly supported the new gutters. The team was able to quickly and honestly troubleshoot the problem, offer a suggested solution but without pressure, and still complete the job in our tight deadline, with only a very reasonable amount of additional labor/material cost.

We were very pleased with the entire experience. They worked with us very willingly and did whatever it was that we asked. We also appreciated them happily working within our budget restrictions. They were efficient and the work was of very high quality. They were also considerate and cleaned up really well.

The kitchen remodel was more than $100,000. I was frustrated that the guys who were running the project did not pay attention to detail that I had requested from Rich Dixon, who is the owner of Dixon Inc. He was entirely agreeable, punctual, and friendly and got the work done on time. There were times when I looked at the work done by some of the crew done, particularly by one of the crew members; I told him that it wasn't right and had to be redone; that was some reflexive junk in the paint, the deck were not done at the right angle and basically some quality control. The project manager Mark should have been doing the quality control and not me, which I felt extremely frustrated to be the nag. I will not use them again in the future. Overall it was okay, the job was done nicely, but I just wanted the quality control manager to do his job.

First, Rich opened up the wall to see the extent of the damages. Then, based on his findings, he provided a written estimate with references. Once I decided to go ahead, he moved quickly, and within about a week the entire job was completed as promised (although I have been waiting to replace the rotten siding). He left the room clean and ready for me to paint. I plan to use his services to replace the siding, dry rot, and some windows as soon as I can swing it financially. He has been very patient with my decision for the second (and larger job) of residing and windows.

The experience was excellent. They were very professional and did quality work. They gave us options for things we could do ourselves such as painting to keep the cost down.

It went very well. They were friendly and did good work. The only thing that was unsatisfactory was that our work got put off for about two months due to scheduling conflicts. They were very good about letting us know that they needed to reschedule. They kept in contact with us.

I have worked with this company 3 times and they have always been efficient and comfortable. They made a huge effort to make sure that it matched the craftsman style of my home. I would recommend them for anyone in the process of remodeling.

They did a good job on it. They were the lowest bid out there among the four bids I received, but I don't remember the cost. They were prompt, courteous, and cleaned up everything. They worked with my dogs which was nice. I have an Akita and they weren't intimidated. I'm working on another project and will be hiring them again either this year or the next.

A two-month project became a seven-month project. It started out all right. They were nice and professional. But as soon as we questioned them on anything, the relationship went south. Their framing was good, but they had to have the drywall contractor come out several times to repair subpar work. When they were tearing out the downstairs bathroom, they used a saws-all and cut through to the kitchen and damaged our refrigerator. On a positive note, they ended up correcting the plumbing on our icemaker... a testiment to how well they started out. Their tiling was awful... I would suggest you never have them do any tiling for you. They had to re-tile each shower more than once to correct shoddy work, and still it didn't look good. The tile remains uneven in places to this day. They mounted glass shelves in one shower (inserted them in the tile), but they didn't leave enough spacing and the tile has settled and broken one of the shelves. A testiment to how unsatisfied we were, when the shelf broke after three months, we didn't have them come back and fix it because we didn't trust them in our house. The project manager wasn't present when the plumbers and electricians were there, so things weren't done according to our specifications, i.e. sink mounted way too low, showerheads mounted way too low, bathroom light not centered over sink, forgot to put light in shower, switched the fan and light in both bathrooms incorrectly, etc. After much arguing, they agreed to correct some of them, but not nearly enough, and still not to our specifications. On multiple occasions, they performed construction tasks on our existing hardwood floor without protecting it properly... despite our continued request that they put down protection. They repaired what they damaged prior to the flooring contractor coming and going, but damage done after that was left unrepaired. We caught the project manager lying to us on more than one occasion. Overall, despite our asking them not to do so, they made assumptions all the way through the project on things they should have asked us about, which resulted in us not being satisfied with the work. On a positive note, their flooring (hardwood floor) contractor was excellent. This was our first remodel project ever, and honestly it may have been easier to just move.

The people came on time and cleaned up after themselves at the end of the day. They were pretty accurate on the costs too. When there was a cost overrun they were very good about telling us about it in advance. They are a small company with fewer employees than the bigger companies. Dealing with them was a very pleasant experience.

The staff were very professional, on-time, courteous (we were living in the house during the work) to us and our pets, and communicated well. The few change orders were mostly options we elected to do, or required structural they discovered once they got into the project. In all cases, the charges were reasonable and well-explained...and they provided credits when the costs of materials were lower than expected. They were very easy to work with. The only delay came from an add-on project at the end where we asked for estimates on several ways to handle rotted post and pillar porch supports and it took a little while to get them. But it was not a big deal and the work was great. They even accommodated a last-minute request to add insulation under the porch and worked to get us the info needed for Oregon and federal tax credits/rebates. We will certainly use them for our next phase and recommend them highly.

Dixon rebuilt back third of house. Roof was redone on whole house and gutters replaced. We also had existing windows and additional sliding patio door replaced. Work was done in very professional manner. I will recommend Dixon to all who ask for recommendation.

The team of workers, especially Mark Stevens who performed the majority of the remodel duties, were excellent. At the end of each day while the tear out and construction was under way, Mark left the area swept and clean. The remodel included tearing out of walls, floor and ceiling. Our new kitchen looks better than we had envisioned. We will use Dixon Remodeling again for our basement.

They were excellent, professional, and showed up on time every time. There was only one delay and that was brief and due to subcontractor scheduling. Quality of workmanship is high. They were easy to deal with. I had talked with 4 other contractors and was uncomfortable with what all of them said. I felt as if I was being pushed into doing way more than was really needed and rebuilding not refurbishing. Rich was extremely helpful and thoughtful about getting to what I really wanted done. I thought digging out the crawlspace and the demolition would be slow. The subcontractors were very good too. I was very pleased with the job and felt I got good value for the money.

This is the third major project for which we've hired Dixon. They are prompt, responsive, courteous and their price is always fair and lower than other bids. The biggest project we hired done was a roof tear-off and 2nd floor addition. We lived in the house during the project and they were wonderfully accommodating. For that project we knew we wanted to hire them because they had done such a great job on our kitchen and we didn't even entertain or seek competitive bids. Can't say enough good things about them.
