I cannot express in words how pleased I am with this company. At first, I was vey reluctant to give this new company my business, and after several weeks of biting my nails, I am sure glad that I did. When I purchased the property I knew I had a significant challenge on my hands in regards to the back yard that has a pool. The pool was surrounded by lots of turf and plant material that was less than desirable. I've put this project on hold for years after receiving bids that started at $7,000.00- $20,000.00. This year, I had no choice but to hire someone. I called JD and he came by and spent almost 6 hours with me and my husband going thru the details of what we needed done. He took the time to search for information and bargains to get the best deals. JD called several vendors and nurseries with us to get the best deals on our plants, rock, compost, and supplies. He even did price comparisons with his own vendors! This is what basically sold me on this guy; his passion. What clinched the deal was his knowledge of his work, the ability to say "I don't know how or cannot do that type of service with my current licensing" -- we wanted a huge oak tree removed in the future after all of the initial things were done. This was never included in any other previous bid but we knew it was going to be an issue later, but JD doesn't do tree removal. His transparency and communication was awesome throughout the job. He provided his insurance and bonding information and had it forwarded from HIS insurance agent to us without us having to ask. Also, all the work was done without the use of pesticides nor chemicals. We staged the process over several weeks and made progress payments that ended in a final bill with a grand total that was $300 less than the original bid and almost $3,000.00 cheaper than the lowest bid previously from others. We gave Dirt Cheap a chance and gambled on a small business that is owned and operated close to home. Also, we were happy to know that JD also lives in our North Portland community. He has a NO PESTICIDES OR CHEMICALS policy and that was reassuring. We were so pleased with the job. My husband and I watched these guys work in sweltering heat and doing work that didn't look like very much fun. We were incredibly surprised of the outcome that In the end we gave JD a $1000.00 bonus that he could have probably kept for himself. But, just as we expected, he split it 50/50 with his worker Mike who about fell over running to thank us. These guys are no joke. Prompt, professional, and personable. They made this otherwise daunting task a fun learning experience. How often do you meet people having FUN removing blackberries? Also, the six hours JD spent with us in the very beginning.... It was free. He never charged me after I said for him I'd pay for his time that day.
