BEWARE! I hired DialOne to install a new roof in December 2017. When they were done, two of our plants had been destroyed, our basketball hoop was face down on the driveway with a smashed backboard, and nails, plastic strips, soda cans, food wrappers, and shingles were spread throughout our yard. I spent 4 hours picking things up in the first week after the roof was installed, but we continued to find things over the next 3 years. The nails they used were too long, resulting in split wood on the underside of the plywood, visible from within our attic, and also visible on the eaves on the front porch, etc. They chipped my siding in several locations. I called them to come take a look at some of these things, and they told me that was normal, but then the owner discovered something wrong with part of my roof, and had the crew come back out. Had I not called them, I doubt the owner would have caught the issue. Fast forward to January 2023, when I discovered a mold issue in our attic above two bathrooms. It became apparent that DialOne had simply removed two vents, and covered the vent openings with roofing, resulting in two bathroom vents emptying directly into my attic. That entire attic area had a mold issue that I paid $1,150 to another company to remediate. I emailed DialOne but never heard back. I then called DialOne to inform them what happened, and they claimed they never received the email, that their crew did not cover up the vents, and they insisted the house was like this before they installed the new roof. After weeks of back and forth, I finally shared with them photos from Google Earth showing an aerial view of my roof. As expected, the roof had 3 vents prior to DialOne installing the roof, and had only 1 vent after. At that point, DialOne contacted me, apologized, and told me that crew was a bad crew and they stopped using them. I guess they think I hired the crew and did not hire DialOne? In my mind, the crew was DialOne. Do you trust a company that scapegoats workers and avoids accountability? When I first contacted them in January 2023, DialOne was originally planning to charge me to install these two vents, even though they should have never covered them up, per our original contract. It wasn't until they saw the before/after photos that they relented. This process took about 2 months of back and forth. At the end of it, I asked if they would review their Errors & Omissions Insurance policy to see if it covered this; they never got back to me. In early July 2023, I emailed them asking them for reimbursement of the $1,150 I paid for mold remediation that was a direct result of them covering up vents. They did not respond. I then called them 11 days after sending the email, and left a voice mail indicating I would like a response before August 1, or I would hire a lawyer and also seek reimbursement of the $1,150 plus any legal expenses. I received an email from them the same day, where DialOne informed me that the contract resolved them of any liability. The section of the contract they referred to states: "Any change to existing ventilation systems for project will be done at Owner’s written authorization, and Owner agrees to bear all liability for any subsequent damage due or related to ventilation changes. Owner acknowledges, agrees, and releases Dial One Roofing from any and all liability related to venting, air flow issues, and/or any assumed connection with microorganisms or mold." We did not ask them to change a ventilation system. In addition, our contract states "Install Bathroom Baffle Vents, Connect tube to bathroom vents", which they clearly did not do. So now I have to hire an attorney to get this company to be held accountable for an obvious error on their part. This is apparently not the first time the DialOne tried to blame its "crew" for a problem, per what is written in this BBB complaint: [*** Link removed ***]
