When I called to place my order, the contact person I dealt with was polite and professional. The delivery driver was the same.
All went very well until I discovered that the compost, having been delivered, included multiple small pieces of small branches, a few larger pieces of chewed up wood, and several pieces of some sort of chewed up plastic cord that looked like the round power lines that bring power from the main line to a house.
The information I got from the website was that this compost could be used as a soil amendment or as a top dressing and could be planted directly into. When I was spreading the compost, I found that it was steaming, meaning it was still in the process of breaking down. The consistency was of a nature that there is no way that I, an experienced gardener, would plant directly into it. Since this compost is going to pull nitrogen from the soil to break it down, I will have to add considerable nitrogen fertilizer to the soil in order to have healthy plants this year.
I sent an email to Dean Innovations, reporting the above findings, and was not afforded the courtesy of a response. Too bad, this is a local, nearby business and I would like to have been a return customer. I will not be returning.
