Firewood was not seasoned well. Worst burning wood I've used in over 15 years of ordering in Portland metro area.

This was my first contact with Dean Innovations.  I had sent an email with a few questions and it was promptly returned and all questions answered.

When I called to place my order, the contact person I dealt with was polite and professional.  The delivery driver was the same.

All went very well until I discovered that the compost, having been delivered, included multiple small pieces of small branches, a few larger pieces of chewed up wood, and several pieces of some sort of chewed up plastic cord that looked like the round power lines that bring power from the main line to a house.

The information I got from the website was that this compost could be used as a soil amendment or as a top dressing and could be planted directly into.  When I was spreading the compost, I found that it was steaming, meaning it was still in the process of breaking down.  The consistency was of a nature that there is no way that I, an experienced gardener, would plant directly into it.  Since this compost is going to pull nitrogen from the soil to break it down, I will have to add considerable nitrogen fertilizer to the soil in order to have healthy plants this year.

I sent an email to Dean Innovations, reporting the above findings, and was not afforded the courtesy of a response.  Too bad, this is a local, nearby business and I would like to have been a return customer.  I will not be returning.

The wood that they brought smells amazing. I will never go any where else again. He delivered it perfectly. We had no cleanup because of the way he delivered it. He arrived on time. They were easy to get a hold of.

This was supposed to be screened organic planting mix with compost. It looked instead like oregon topsoil scraped from who knows where. It was heavily clay, full of large bark chips and trash, including glass, bits of metal, and plastic.

This is the second year I've used this company for bulk compost/soil amendments. Prices are good, and the owner and employees are friendly, organized, knowledgeable about their products and helpful in making recommendations based on what my goal is. I drove onto the lot, was immediately approached by an employee who directed me where to move my truck for the product I wanted. Since he knew it would be a few minutes before he could load the vehicle, he invited me to step into the office where it might be more comfortable to wait. Within 10 minutes the compost had been dumped into the truck, smoothed/evened out, and I was on my way.

The person at the counter was able to give me advice about the kind of product I should get - who knew there were choices. She was very clear about cost for delivery, dates possible for deliver and the type of directions her company needed from me for delivery. It all happened as arranged.

Delivery was early by 30 minutes, polite, asked if I preferred he wait until the appointment before unloading (I didn't), dropped wood very close to where I wanted it. Wood was nearly completely free of debris, seasoned 2 years by report and looked like it. Very clean, mature wood, and very polite and responsible delivery. Not the cheapest I've seen, but worth it to me for the total convenience and politeness.
