CUSTOM DECK & FENCE MAINTENANCE

I can not say enough good things about custom Deck and Fence Maintenance. As a home inspector of 35 years I have a pretty good idea of how to hire a good contractor. I allowed for 5 bids before hiring CDFM due to Craig's knowledge of fencing, the wood product, his answers to my questions, prompt communication, and a fair price. Craig's crew did an excellent job replacing our rotten fence on a property line that is adjacent to four neighbors. They communicated well from delivery to execution. We had a small glitch that became evident after the build and Craig returned immediately to fix it. The crew was polite, intelligent and worked practically non-stop. The build was excellent, the wood was quality. I stained it myself a week later and have had many compliments. We had a lot of plants that were growing on or close to the old fence and I made an effort to protect them. They respected my efforts and did the same. Two of the three sides (involving two residents and one renter) of the fence were completed. One of the neighbors had them install an additional fence and another neighbor is planning on hiring them as well. The third side (104 feet) has renters as well and the owners communicated with us to wait until they had some landscaping completed in a few months, which we are doing.

One neighbor who we share maybe 15 feet of property line with did not participate financially and has since posted a bad review which we totally disagree with. Our 25 year old fence (bought and paid for solely by me) and his  at least 28 year old fence (never replaced since I have lived here)  that extended beyond our shared property line was falling down due to rotten posts, hence the reason for the replacement as there are swimming pools on two sides. I had heard dogs and observed temporary farm fencing  put up where there is a gap in the common corner - due to a failing fence. I spoke with the occupant ( a renter) face to face about the project, wrote down my name and phone number to contact me and suggested they might secure their fence since it was already in disrepair and falling down. No one ever contacted us or any other neighbor. The property owner now claims CDFM caused their fence to fall down by disconnecting from the corner post.  It did not fall any further than it was already leaning and was in fact secured by Craig's crew since the occupant did not follow my suggestion. His fence is failing due to rotten posts.  The third side of the fence (awaiting replacement after landscaping) which is 114 feet long and perpendicular was also totally disconnected from the corner  post and is also not falling over at this time.  There is no logic to the poor review and many mis-statements.

In conclusion , I would hire CDFM again and I have already done so for another person I represent. We have also added his company to a list we hand out to the clients of our home inspection business for reliable references in the construction industry; they are a great group and deserve consideration in your decking/fencing projects. 

While installing neighbors adjoining fence, Craig or his crew cut loose and completely disconnected my fence from the shared fencepost and just allowed my section of fence to fall over and left it that way. I was not notified by anyone of the project, and no permission was given. Contractor denies that by cutting my fence loose from it's corner post that this would cause it to fall. More to come on this, we will be pursuing all legal options in this matter.

They did an absolutely excellent job. I couldn't say enough good things about them. I would highly recommend them to anyone. They came right away to give us an estimate. My husband was interested in changing the design. They followed up immediately with us. We asked him for recommendations for other services and he was happy to do so. I was also able to pick out the flooring and the railing material that I wanted to use.

All the steps to be taken to clean, strip and apply new stain to the deck/railings was explained thoroughly. The work was done promptly and the deck looks great. The team that came out to work on the deck were respectful, courteous and hard workers. The only delay we had was due to rain, something that was to be expected. I did appreciate that they waited a few days after the rain ended to make sure that the deck was completely dry before they applied the new stain.

The owner is excellent. He is knowledgeable and punctual. His worker were good but missed some areas. When we called them, they were quick at fixing the problems.

They are great overall. They are very professional and follow through. They are courteous and helpful when I have questions. They do what they say they will and when they say they will do it.

We were at first worried because it took a long time to get us on their calendar and we had paid 50% of job. They had originally promised about two weeks out but it was closer to a month. Deck looks nice overall -- some spots look a bit darker than others. I wasn't too happy with their washing technique since most of the windows below deck areas got quite a bit of streaking also -- they should have covered them up. Also, some areas under deck have stain drippings.

We received the quote in a timely manner, although it took over 4 weeks to get the job scheduled. Originally, CDM was only going to pressure wash and use the chemical cleaner on the deck. In fact, I came home one afternoon to find they had started applying the oil stain. Because there were still many remnants of the last stain job still on the deck, we agreed they would go ahead and sand the deck and stairs (price was $.75/sq foot.) This added $400 to the original estimate of $800, but it was worth it. They did this work the very next day, and the deck looks great. Scott spent time with me discussing options, and we're both pleased with the results. Throughout the process, Scott was extremely professional and took the time to answer all my questions. He also had no problem with the fact that I supplied my own oil product.

My deck was not in the best condition as it had been a few years. Nothing had been done to it, and it had not been professionally done. The crew working on the deck did a great job, and they were hard workers. Since there were railings and stairs involved there was lots of detail work, and the deck is a decent size. It took them longer to clean and strip than anticipated but they did an awesome job of removing the different colored stains that had been used over the years. The finished product looks great! My deck has not looked this good in years. Scott warned me that it would not look like new. I was not anticipating that as it is an older deck, but it sure looks nice! The only complaint I have is that I had to wait quite a while after putting my deposit down to have work done on it. That was partly due to weather and partly due to their busy schedule. The actual work began about 1 month later than estimated. All in all, I am very pleased with how it turned out.

Prior to having the work performed, I got four bids from companies recommended on Angie's list. I eliminated one because it was significantly higher than the other three (which were comparable). I choose CDFM after talking w/Scott Flury, who seemed the most knowledgeable about what needed to be done and the necessary materials. My only frustration was getting the work done as quickly as I wanted. Weather delayed starting several times, but once begun it was accomplished quickly (2 days). I was satisfied with the quality of the work. I thought the price was about right.

They did great work! The deck looks great. They had a hard time stripping the existing stain and ended up having to sand some areas. They did not charge me extra for the sanding. I needed to have the deck completed by July 4 for a party. They were working about 3-4 weeks out but promised to have it done and they did! My only issue (and it is minor) is that they showed up one day to do the work and I did not know when they would be starting. The finished in 2 days. Great work!

I loved the finished product. They cleaned one day and finished the work a couple of days later (to allow deck to get fully dry). They are easy to work with. Scott at Custom Deck is very focused on customer service. He is a genuinely nice guy who puts the customer first! They offer regular maintenance programs, and we have already arranged with them for an annual ''check up'' for the deck.

Scott was prompt in returning my first call and arrived promptly for the estimate. Because of the rainy weather, it was several weeks before they could do the work. If I had any complaint, it was that there was little communication about when the job would be scheduled. And this was after I put 1/2 down. It made me a little nervous. But in the end, Scott and his crew were very professional, prompt and thorough. I would call them again in a heartbeat.

I was very, very pleased with the workmanship and courteousness and the deck looks great. Even beyond this -- a week after the job was done and payment was made, and when the outside temperature went well below freezing, I was called to remind me that we had turned on the outside water taps. Now that is not only professional but thoughtful.

VERY PROFESSIONAL, AND KNOWLEDGEABLE. THEY LEFT THE SITE CLEAN, AND ALWAYS RETURNED MY PHONE CALLS ON THE SAME DAY. THEY KNEW WHAT THEY WERE DOING.
