The windows took a bit longer than anticipated to be ready but Mark was communicative throughout the process. The day of the installation, his crew came on time and were very professional and clean. They setup a little work area outside the house where they would do all the sawing and what not and the inside of the house was not impacted a lot by their work.
The only blemish was that the divided lite was wrong (miscommunication along the way). Mark was very helpful here and proposed two solutions to the issue: he could get the windows fully redone and reinstalled at no cost or give a discount. He gave us time to think it over and see how we liked the new divided lite. In the end, we decided that it wasn't that noticeable but I really appreciated Mark's willingness to redo the work to our satisfaction.
Highly recommended and will use Mark's company again when we upgrade our other windows.
Only when we got fed up (more than four months had elapsed) and asked for our deposit back did the company finally schedule an installation date -- which in turn got postponed a few times. We were given a small discount on the final project (the final painting work was done for free), which was nice but felt, well, small.
And the crew complained about having to do installation work in wet winter weather -- a problem, we pointed out, that wouldn't have existed if they had done the work five months earlier in pleasant weather.
"We understand the clients frustration - it was not our best moment. At the time the order was placed the manufacturer changed distribution channels - this was a significant market change and as a result it took substantially longer to get our windows for this project. We should have communicated better with the customer and as the project closed we apologized and accepted full responsibility for not doing so. The painting was a significant cost to us and we hoped by handling this portion we would ease the frustration of the delay. We value her feedback and again apologize for her experience."
Wood windows are made from finger-jointed pine, usually fast-growth - meaning that they won't hold up like old-growth cedar windows of the past. Wood clad windows also have rot problems and are sort of a mystery to us because the whole point of wood is the look of it and if you cover it in aluminum, what's the point? And it still can rot? No thanks. Fiberglass doesn't quite have the high relief of wood, but it was good enough to create nice shadows and depth. Also it is paintable, which is helpful.
We looked at Milgard windows and toured the facility in Tualatin. Not impressed. At least for the type of window we were looking at, these were far inferior to Marvins. The wood cuts were not precise and everything just looked sloppy. Plus, they didn't open in a smooth, solid way. The price difference was nothing, so we went with Marvins.
As far as working with Classic, they were fantastic. The team of installers were skilled, knowledgeable, personable (fun with our kids), and worked through wind and rain to get it all done. They cleaned up after themselves every day and were very respectful of our property.
A year later we are very pleased with the results. We will definitely use them again when we have window or door needs.
Kevin helped me select a very classic style window and door arrangement that matched the age of my house (1900). The project was finished quickly, and let me tell you it looks gorgeous. I have high standards for quality of workmanship and customer service, and they nailed it. I couldn't say enough about my experience here.
Highly recommended.
3 weeks arrived and my husband and i had cleared our weekend to seal the door. We didn't hear anything from Classic Sash until we initiated the call on when we could expect to have the door arrive that week. They then informed us that they was a delay in the order and it'd be another week. I do not believe they would have bothered to contact us if we hadn't called them. The following week came and went, we did receive our door and eager to get to the installation stage, arranged our installation date, and then promptly spent the following weekend and a couple of weekday night working on sealing our new door in. We even added an extra coat of sealant/ varnish on each side of the door. The total hours my husband and I spent on that door together was easily 20 hours (as we lightly sanded each coat etc). The door install was estimated to only take 1/2 the day. The door installer took all day. Here's the reason why, the pre drilled door was incorrectly drilled. There was a hole in the door that my front door hardware would not cover, as again, the door was pre drilled incorrectly and no one at their company bothered to check this before giving us the door. Kevin and company's solution was to order another hardware set with a handle plate that would cover the hole completely but otherwise would look exactly the same as our original hardware. As my husband and I had spent a significant time selecting just the right door we were reluctant to switch, but we wanted to keep the door we worked so h******. So we agreed so long as it met the condition that the hardware would look exactly the same.
We had to wait another several weeks approx for the new hardware. The first time we arranged for the installer to come back to our house asked for an approx. time to expect him to show up... my husband and I both work. That day, my husband had a meeting and planned to let the installer in and then leave for work requesting that the installer lock the work behind him. The schedule time came and went, and there was no call to explain that the installer was going to be late or delayed. So my husband left for work annoyed that he had to even go in late for no reason. Kevin called to asked why there was no one at home. Apparently the installer arrived over 30 mins. later and didn't mention this fact to Kevin - we had to after a few emails and VM calls. When the installer came over on yet another day to install the hardware, we took a look.. it covered the hole, but the face plate was much wider and larger than the original set and looked award when you opened the door and looked at the faceplate on the other side. Also because again the lock set wasn't meant for this door, the door handle would stick when you opened it, and the key lock wasn't flush again the door - again because the door was incorrectly made. In the end, we told them it wasn't sufficient, and a new door was order... another 4 weeks before delivery. And other day scheduled and my turn taking the day off to allow another installer install the new door and original hardware order. They outsourced the door lock installation to ensure that we would be satisfied with the end result. To the company's credit at the end of the day after a very long painful process, we did receive a door we are happy with so they fulfilled their end of the agreement. But I'm not inclined to ever use them again, from start to finish this took over 3 months to resolve, and multiple days off on my husbands and/or my part, not to mention multiple emails and calls eventually to include the owner of the company to resolve this to our satisfaction. That is not the level of service we read about or paid a premium to receive.
Kevin provided the estimate and arranged everything. He is excellent to work with - very professional and easy to communicate with.
The installers also were very professional and did a first-rate job.
I would definitely contact them to replace more windows for me in the future.
Dave and Shilo did an amazing job on all aspects of the install, especially matching as best as possible the interior and exterior trim around the door to match the existing trim.
Like any big job, there were issues that had to be addressed (one scratched sash, small gash on the door, wide window channel stock that had to be ordered). All issues were resolved to our satisfaction.
Overall very pleased with the product and service provided. I wouldn't (and won't for other doors) hesitate to use them again.
