We have worked with Ron Best for over thirty years, and would not consider going elsewhere. City Home Improvement has always been honest, trustworthy, and as on time as one can be given all the unforseen elements that can pop up. The current project(completed last month) was done exactly to our specifications. It is absolutely beautiful! Jerry explained each step and was easy to talk with. The crew was fast paced, thorough, and cleaned up at the end of each day. We are completely pleased with their work and will use CHI for any future projects.

Since 1990, they have done almost all the work on my house. I have never worked with a group that is so dedicated, and so responsive. Ron was here to inspect often and the work was done quickly and well. Every evening, everything was cleaned up. It was SOOOO easy. Now I always start every project with a call to them.

City Home Improvement was recommended to us by our roofing company after they discovered several damaged rafters and dry rot on a support beam. Repair required bracing the roof, removal of exterior siding, removal of interior brickwork on our fireplace, replacement of leak-damaged ceiling panels, and other steps. The work was done in a very careful and meticulous way to avoid further damage to windows around the beam, the ceiling, rafters and other structural supports. Among other things, we were able to install a mantel on the fireplace--not possible in its old configuration. The result is a reinforced structural support, a nicer fireplace, repainting of affected areas, replacement of damaged ceiling panels, replacement of lost insulation, and cleaned brickwork. A very nicely done job.

I wouldn't call it remodeling, but they did a lot of work, they went above and beyond what I expected. They're wonderful. The price kind of choked me up but I thought it was very fair. I have used them over the years, I will use them again. I say before you do anything else talk to that company, because they are completely honest, they come back and repair anything that for a year, there's a year guarantee. They've always been very responsive, they're great, I wouldn't do anything in this house without them.

They painted my house this summer. They repaired parts of the house that needed it, painted the whole house, painted the whole garage, they took them off the roof, and replaced windows.

They did a wonderful job. Only addition, is that make sure you understand allowances. The most important aspect of this company is that Ron mentioned that if there were any issues over time he would take care of it. We've found over time that they have. I'd recommend them to anyone.

This is the third time they have been out here since the job has been completed. When they first came out to start the job I noticed the brick was pulling away from the front of the house and discovered there was dry-rot and had to replace the siding and remove the brick. The crew who removed the brick and replaced the siding was great, they did good work. However, the painting crew I do not know if they didn't do good prep work, the white kept coming through wherever there was a seem. They tried a different caulking before they painted all the areas where the white was coming through however it still came through. This time, they tried an additional caulking and repainted all of the areas.

They were coming back to make a touch up on a job that had been completed 2 years ago today.

City Home Improvement has several project managers or lead contractors and ours was Gary Blomquist. I would be sure to ask for Gary. Or call him on his cell 503-819-6446. We started looking into our remodel about a year before we actually had the work done. Gary was very helpful along the way and had good ideas. Also - he was never pushy but went at our pace. Once work began his team was excellent particularly his lead carpenter Ron. Ron made sure every job was done to perfection. It has now been over six months since the remodel was completed and we could not be happier with the results. We also have gotten lots of compliments from other. I would highly recommend Gary and his team at City Home Improvement. (I found them here on Angies List.)

Complete 2nd floor master bathroom remodel. Plus new sheet rock in the master bedroom, and other ancillary projects. It is important to point out that our home is unique. We have a custom built log home (not from a kit.) This presented some challenges to the remodel as the outside wall is log and there is no subflooring between the first and second floor. The challenges of the latter were the ability to move the toilet/shower etc. to different positions.

We are still in the process of the bathroom remodel. It will be done by next week.

Complete Bathroom remodel.....Removed tub and put in a shower stall. Tilted the whole bathroom. Replaced all plumbing and had a custom made cabinet. We are on schedule for the project to be done by next week. The work man have cleaned up each day before they leave and have been on time. If i do any remodeling again, , I would use them.. I had 3 bids and City Home Improvements was in the middle. Mark has held my hand during the process of picking out fixtures, tiles, etc. which is what I was looking for.

We had an existing plastic insert double benched shower insert removed and a tiled shower with bench and shampoo niches installed. Also a custom made above the toilet cabinet was built and installed.

Never received a bid after several meetings.
Description of Work
Had these guys out to bid on some framing, siding and windows. Met with them twice at my home. Never was able to get a bid out of them. Called several times and got strung along for a month and then never heard anything and didn't receive a bid. If the job isn't for you let me know - don't string me along for a month and waste my time.

When the homeowner first contacted us he had already received 2 bids, 1 high & 1 low. He was in a big hurry to start the job (possibly in the spring), but the project required removing the roof structure which could not possibly be done until good weather permitted. Being new to the area he didn’t think the rainy season was a problem. I was very clear to the homeowner that a detailed, accurate bid would take some time and since a commencement date was months away, it was given a low priority on our estimating schedule.Steve U.

It went very well. Friendly staff all around and they exude competence and confidence. We were very happy with the quoted price and very happy with the work. They installed the doors over a few hours on one day and then returned a few days later to do the finishing work on the front cover. High-quality work with attention to detail. Highly recommended. Also, they did not demand payment until they were sure we were happy, which was an added bonus.
Description of Work
We needed to have our front and back (exterior) doors replaced, painted, and doorknobs/deadbolts installed. Additionally, we needed some finishing work on the cover over the front door area of the house that had been left somewhat unfinished by another contractor. They performed these services.

they did a great job. i would highly recommend working with Tony. he helped me pick out colors and materials and helped create a budget that worked for me. the team he organized was prompt, professional, and worked hard. all were personable and great to work with. they did a terrific job. i would definitely hire them again.

They did a great job. Especially in the early parts of the process I got a lot of help with selecting finishes and materials. The contractor went with me to pick out the materials including a faucet and sink, it was very helpful to have him with me. He didn't try to push me into anything, he just accompanied me and answered any questions that I had. I really appreciated that because I didn't know where to start on my own. He estimated the project would take 3 weeks and for the most part it was done on schedule. We were able to utilize the kitchen within that time frame. We were particularly happy with the floors that were refinished, they were very careful. He put plastic up to completely enclose the area so we didn't have dust everywhere. They do custom cabinets and the cabinet maker was very good. We were very impressed with how the cabinets turned out. They also did a wonderful job with the countertops. There aren't any gaps or flaws. They also did some painting in the room adjacent, they even recommended a good faux painter for my mantel. Everyone that worked in our home did a great job with the clean up and was incredibly professional. They have been incredibly responsive, even after the completion of the project they have been quick at returning my calls as I find small items that need completed.

Very Poorly. The Contractor provided a cost estimate and scheduled 1-1/2 weeks in advance a meeting at my house. On the day of the appointment, the contractor canceled the appointment and subsequently called back to withdraw his proposal. I have had numerous remodels and home improve services provided by a number of contractors. I have never been treated as unprofessionally by any contractor as by City Home Improvement. I would strongly advise against using their services.

On June 21, 2010, member called our office for an estimate on work to be performed in his home office. Brad Raetz returned the call and set up an appointment for July 7, 2010 between 12 and 12.30 pm. At this time, pricing was discussed and Brad provided a rough estimate of $965 - subject to inspection of the office as well as pricing on laminate options. The member also agreed to provide his selection of laminate and edging prior to the appointment so that an accurate estimate could be provided. This was never done. On the morning of the appointment, Brad called to confirm the appointment and that he would arrive between 12 and 12.30. The member refused to accept this 1/2 hr window, and was adamant that Brad be at the appointment no later than 12. Although Brad tried to explain that Mr. Arambula's home was approximately 20 miles away and traffic was unpredictable, the member persisted with his expectation. Due to the negative tone of the conversation, plus the distance to travel to a relatively small project where materials had not even been selected, Brad decided it would be in the best interest of both parties not to pursue this project. He then called the member and declined to provide a firm estimate.DUNCAN H.

One guy came and he was very good. He had some good ideas and listened well. The bid was the most reasonable one that we had. If we had the money, we would have gone with him. They were very responsive and came right on time.

These people are honest, fair, and excellent workers. They complete a job in a timely fashion. The same workers have been with them for 30+ years. They have never misrepresented any part of any job to us.

They were really good, and we recommend them highly. They took us to the vendors and took care of everything. They brought different people to do different things, and they were all managed by City Home Improvement. They did a lot of things. They were excellent. They kind of looked after everything.

It went well. NO job like that is without glitches, but they were few in this case and handled very well.
Description of Work
Mark Lindsay was the contractor. He and his men put new countertop and backspash in the bathroom. In the kitchen, they put new countertop on two long counters and a nook table. They also tore out the bottom cabinets on one side of the kitchen. The ones they brought back were custom made so they look like they really belong in this old house! It was a joy to work with all of them. We felt totally comfortable having each one of them in our house. Mark was meticulous about each step. He is a person who looks you right in the eye when he talks to you. He even talked us out of getting some more expensive kinds of countertop material, due to the age and character of our house. The finished product looks great. We'll ask them to come back to do a few more things in the kitchen at a later time.

They gave me a quote for about $2000. They are design build contractors. The guy, who came out, was very professional and knowledgeable about structural aspects. He came on time; he was clean and considerate. I’ll consider them for estimates in the future.
