Chip-Away Stump Grinding

Over the past 10 or 15 years I have had Randy grind away at least half a dozen stumps at a home I was living at. He is always a professional, arriving on time, respectful of the property as he moves his big machine around to the stump, partitions off the area with canvas walls so chips don't fly everywhere and then he cleans up afterward. I've never has a single complaint. This time, in January 2025 I didn't even call around to get quotes. He has always been equal or slightly better than the others. (A lot better than the few who are obviously asking much too much.) One of the best things is that I can send him photos and video of the stump and the site, by email and he will usually give me an estimate without needing to schedule a visit. He's never gone over the estimate. I think that all he does is stump grinding, but he is the best!

Randy is THE MAN. We were affected by the storm of January 2024 with 3 massive fir trees coming down on our property and Randy handled the huge project seamlessly. We had over 9 stumps on our property. He was incredibly efficient, provided great value, and delivered excelled service. Could not be happier. THANK YOU RANDY AND KIM!!

Service was excellent, dust kept to a minimum by using canvas shields and clean up of job site was superb. Great communication and care of our property displayed by the company. This was a third party contract, so we did not pay them directly.

Outstanding job!

I had removed a magnolia tree that had gotten too big in a small flowerbed and just wasn't strong enough to dig out the stump and remove with my small electric chainsaw. I had called another tree service that wanted twice the money I got quoted from Chip-Away. Randy and Sue are so friendly and communication with me over text and phone was prompt and impressive! Randy came out, used a portable grinder and no more stump leaving the flowerbed ready for planting again. I watched him from my home security camera while at work, he set up a barrier to protect people walking on the sidewalk and left the area in great shape taking care not to damage the lawn. I will recommend Randy and Sue to all my friends. Hats off on a job well done!

This is a husband and wife team who get right to work, focus, do a comprehensive job of removing the stump-- all while adding no debris to the front of the house or to my yard. Excellent work. Timely. Good value.

A step back in time....when a job well done was the priority. From Customer Service (Kim) to the actual job (Randy), Chip Away earned a 5 star plus rating from start to finish. Hit one snag during the job, Yellow-jacket nest. Randy took a small break allowing me to take care of the problem and then resumed the job and finished up that day. When Kim & Randy state Customer Satisfaction is their #1 goal......you can count on it.

Chipaway showed up on time and did the work as expected. Access to the are was very poor, needed to use a hand held grinder. Looks great. Nice folks.

Randy came out to survey the situation soon after we contacted him. He couldn't schedule the job until a few weeks later, which was fine with us, since we weren't in a big hurry. We were just pleased that it would be possible to remove the stumps, on a slope in a back yard without easy access. Because of this, he needed to use a hand-held grinder, which is more labor intensive, rather than a larger one. He worked quickly and efficiently and removed all the stumps in one full day and a couple of hours the following morning. He was very pleasant to work with and did a great job.

Randy did a thorough job grinding out four stumps, two of which were on a slope. He arrived promptly and worked very efficiently. He is a true professional, very personable and easy to work with. I highly recommend him.

Chip-Away was recommend to us by our Arborist. We had a little trouble communicating as they were just getting home from vacation, but once all was worked out they did an excellent job. Randy showed up right on time and was done in about three hours. He cleaned up the area very well and filled in the hole with the chippings so we don't have to get fill right away.

Hired Chip-Away again, and they made two more stumps disappear. We love these folks!

We hired Chip-Away Stump Grinding to make 10 stumps go away. We were impressed with his quality of work, including use of screens and wooden boards to protect our nearby house, as well as trees and shrubs near each site.
Above all: no hassle, no nonsense, just stump grinding with a genuine smile. We will certainly be hiring Chip-Away Stump Grinding the next time we need these services.

The job went smoothly and quickly. The small stumps of an adjacent shrub were also ground up so I now have an area where I can replant. Randy was pleasant to work with and was very willing to answer questions.
The only thing that could have used improvement was reaching them for scheduling the work. It took several phone calls/messages and the same by email to get the job on the calendar.

Chip-Away was very responsive to our job, had a 3 leged large Maple stump located on a difficult hill side and it was removed very efficiantly. Appointments were kept and on time. Very satisfied with the service provided.

He took care of the utility marking, arrived on time on day of the work, protected the surrounding areas well from debris, did a thorough job removing the stumps, was careful about damage elsewhere and cleaned up well before leaving. Very nice job.

The job went very well. Randy made the arrangements for the utility locate service to mark the utilities several days before the grinding started.

• - Barriers were errected to keep chips from flying all over the yard.
• - After grinding tore up an unmarked FIOS junction box, Randy made the necessary phone call to arrange for repairs
• - The street and sidewalk were cleaned up at the end of the job.
• If I had more stumps to grind, I would definitely call Chip-Away to do the work.

We moved into our new home in March and soon noticed a small patch of yard was soggy and not draining. We initially called a company that specialized in landscape drainage. They sent out a guy who poked around a bit and said they'd have to dig down further to see what the problem might be and that the charge for that would be $100. We agreed and I called the and quot;call before you digand quot; number to have the various utilities come out and make sure the area was ok for digging. The gas company guy came out and told us there was a tree stump down there, so I canceled with the drainage people and called Randy. He came out and said it was a large tree root and was able that very day to make short work of it for only $80.

Don't go with anyone else. I've had a many stumps ground at both my home and commercial space. I went with Chip-Away based on their AL recommendations. They exceeded expectations. They responded promptly to an e-mail inquiry - which was the first good sign. Then followed up with a phone call. I was on a tight timeline so they were able to fit me in within three days. Randy called on his way. We spoke for 5 minutes and he got to work. He dug an 18 inch hole to make sure he didn't hit any irrigation, he cut down some extra wood I'd left behind and bucked and stacked all the trimmings. He put any small trimmings in my yard debris bin (and pulled in my trash can and recycling while he was at it). Most importantly, it looked like there were never any trees or bushes on the sites where he ground the stumps. First rate service from a straight-shooting small business. Great job. Highly recommended.

Randy came out to do the work first thing Tuesday morning as scheduled. We surveyed the stumps and he began to set up his protective barriers to contain any flying debris. He worked quickly and methodically. Everything went as planned, including an abundance of rocks! There was one surprise however. Unknown to me, and unseen, right next to one of the stumps he was removing he found another stump he identified from one of the large roots as a pine tree. What a surprise! He made short work of it as well. Great little machine he has! Randy finished the grinding and cleaned up the work areas so you would never know he had been here. Randy is friendly and professional; I would recommend him without reservation.

Randy set up a protective barrier to contain the mess, and when all the stump and roots were ground, he cleaned up the entire site. It was unbelieveable. I have had this kind of work done in the past, and no one has ever done such a completely tidy job. This alone would be enough to recommend him, but the best part is that when our new tree arrived, the people who planted our large new Maple said that it was really well cleaned out - they were very complimentary. His thorough work made it easy for them to dig an adequate hole to plant the new tree properly. Thanks so much, Randy!
