Description of Work: They did a full roof replacement. They have done 3 houses total for me. They did have to do some repairs after the 3rd job and they were willing to do them, but it was that the job was not done right the first time.

I used them because my contractor knew them. It went well and they were really expensive. I didn’t like that they called and pre-charged my credit card. They got permission to pre-charge but they went over that amount by $106 and didn’t call me about it. Their professionalism was below average. They may have been talking to my contractor but they needed to call me to keep me updated. There are other people who do good work that I don't have to go through this with.

Our roof developed a leak as a result of poor construction. As built, dirt will accumilate in the valleys, daming the water runoff and allowing it to get underneath the felt. We called five roofing companies for bids. One never returned our call. A second company tried to give a bid over the phone without coming out to our home. A third came out, got on the roof and said that it was beyond their capabilites. The fourth came out, never got on the roof and then gave us a bid. C C and L came out, got on the roof, identified the problem and removed the dirt dam. He said that removing the dirt dam should 'temporarily' fix the leak for a year or two. We contracted them for the repair. While working on the roof, they found a repair, that CCand L had done two years previously, not to their liking. They sent out another crew on a different date and repaired it on warranty!
Description of Work: At two valley areas, cut open center of tile to leave a four inch gap for better unobstructed water flow. Removed and replaced the existing valley flashing.

In general the workmanship was good but the process was bad. When our neighbors had their roof done their roofers put bath-tubs of tarps around their home to catch the roofing material that was being tossed down so as not to disturb the bushes/ plantings. They also used chutes that slid the debris directly into a dumpster when possible. CCand L did not put any tarps down for our job and did nothing to protect our landscaping. They threw all of the debris directly onto our lawn. This caused dust / soil to be kicked up everywhere and this soil dust also went all over the interior of our home through little cracks in window - trim etc. (since they did not tarp off the windows or entrances before creating these dust clouds.) Under normal circumstances and for other families this might not be a problem - but they came to do the roof job the same day we were having testing of our soil done - testing for contamination / lead dust created by a painter... so the dust clouds that were thrown up all over our house caused our kids to be re-poisoned by the contaminated soil (they had been diagnosed for lead poisoning several months before as a result of the painter we used using illegal methods to prepare the house for painting: open flame torch burning, dry scraping, and pressure washing.) While the roofers were not responsible for the contaminated soil - and in the end I do not hold them accountable for the spike in lead levels (and related symptoms) that my children experienced as a result of the dust clouds they created - they did know we were having the soil tested that day and we told them why (that it was likely contaminated with high/ unsafe levels of lead dust) and they did nothing to prevent their work from disturbing the soil. I had never had a roof re-done before so I did not think to ask them how they were going to be handling the disposal of debris and I did not know they would just be throwing it all down on to our soil with no protection. Had I known I would have insisted on protective measures or waited until our soil was replaced with clean soil before doing the roof job (or at least made sure my children were not home that day) ... however - again - my neighbor's roofer used these tarp tubs to collect debris and I unfortunately assumed CCand L would be taking some sort of similar measures. My youngest son's blood lead level spiked to a 15 after this work was done - which is the level where the State gets involved as it is assumed that your home is not safe for a child to live there. We moved out of our house at that time and never returned because of the enormous cost/ burden to us to clean up the mess caused by the painter (a mess that was aggravated by the work of CCand L.) The roof is lovely and waterproof - but the price of my children's health and well being was not worth it.
Description of Work: We had the entire roof replaced on our historic Irvington home and garage.

The experience was pretty good but we had to wait for quite a while for a call back. We called them and they came out the next day. Their pricing was a little high but worth it. We had called other people to clean our roof and they wanted $2000 to clean the roof.
Description of Work: They did two jobs. They repaired a corner of our roof where it had a leak. They repaired some of the roof around the chimney.

Pretty bad from the get go. Had to wait two weeks for them to come out for the estimate and then had to call to get it. After accepting the bid, they scheduled us for 6 weeks out. After about two weeks I noticed leaking into the wood of our eaves and porch. I called and they told us they would move us up and be there in 2-3 weeks. 3 months went by and no word from them. I called and they never apologized for their lack of communication and failure to follow through on their time line. Their scheduler, Ken, didn't seem to care at all, while others said they couldn't find our paperwork or see us on the "upcoming jobs list". We tried to find other contractors but couldn't find anyone that could work on our 1940's tiles. 4 months after accepting the bid they completed the work. They left roof lining sticking up over the tiles, but the leaking seems resolved so I don't want to deal with them again.
Description of Work: Replaced missing tiles in valley of our roof.

Roofer arrived as scheduled for the estimate. Job was a dry-weather requiring job (and dry weather is often rare in winter in western Oregon) but it was small enough to fit in a slow period, with dry weather. I did not schedule the job, as it would have been a longer wait until it was finished, so I agreed to allow company to "fit" the job into their schedule. I requested, and received, a courtesy call when the job was finished, since it was not scheduled.

We've called 6 companies for roofing bids since the 25th of Jan. I've received all bids back within 1 to 2 days except from CCand L. Initially it took Judy, the estimate scheduler, 3 days to call me back to even create the appt for an estimate. I was advised that they would not even go to look at the house for a week and then it would take an additional week to receive the bid. 2 weeks? I told Judy this wasn't the type of service their competitors provided she said, "Sorry, but they're real busy". So busy to not follow through? I haven't heard a word from them. I don't know if they've come out to the house yet or not. Is someone planning on calling me back? Does not bode well as a predictor for how the rest of the service will go.

The gentleman who gave the bid was very friendly and took his time checking out the project. He sent me a bid within a reasonable time including a sample of the material that was to be used. Mike and Steve were great on the installation. They were friendly and professional and seemed to enjoy their work. Overall, I was very satisfied with the work and highly recommend the company. The roof looks great and no water has leaked through after several weeks of Portland rain. Thanks! PS--bid was $2450, but due to additional work more was charged. Additional amount and overall total were reasonable.
Description of Work: Flat roof over my garage was replaced with a new industrial quality surface. Additionally, they removed a patio cover and post and replaced some support beams and plywood that had deteriorated.

It didn't go. They never got us a bid. They said it might take a week or so, and I called twice after 2 weeks. The second time the woman who answered the phone couldn't even find where they'd been to give us a bid, then promised someone would call back by the next day. That was a month ago. Lousy service - don't promise if you don't mean it - that's why people hate contractors.

This company came to give an estimate immediately even though they had a deluge of roofing problems in the spring of 2006. They also fixed the leaks in a timely fashion and cleaned up the mess afterward. I have let a year go by before making my report because I wanted another winter to go by.
Description of Work: I had very bad leaks around a window, chimney, and along a valley. Other roofers said I had to replace the entire roof.

When Warren came out to inspect for an estimate, we agreed on a contract for time at $75 per hour per man plus materials because one never knows what will be found on a 25 year old concrete tile roof. The two workers were diligent and completed the repairs in 4 hours times 2 men for $600 plus tax (We live in Vancouver). The workers had to make two trips as they needed go back to pick up a tile saw. They didn't even bill us for the few materials used. The first bill was for more hours than were actually worked. I called the CCand L maintenance manager, Jeff Carter, who graciously adjusted to bill to reflect my log of 4 hours for each man. Our conversation was professional and warm. It appears that the workers, Tim and Mauricio, were more into repairing roofs than keeping time.
Description of Work: They inspected and replaced our rakes (edge tiles) and ridge tiles, some of which were broken or cracked or not well secured. Because our roof is 25 years old, they had to use a similar style of replacement tiles as our original style tiles were no longer available. They moved good old tiles from the rear edges up in the more noticeable areas and placed the new similar tiles in the rear. They also secured the loose tiles and sealed up areas where needed.

Finished work over 2 months after we signed the contract (Singed contract in July and they did the work in Sept). Work took one day. Did not stay in contact, so I had to call them several times to determine if they were even going to show up. Finished on budget and did good work. While they weren't the cheapest, they did provide the most detailed estimate. Would have been great, just need to really work on customer service.

Description of Work: CC&L removed and replaced a flat roof membrane with IB 80 mil membrane. Installed pipe flashings and heat welded all to roof membrane. They also removed shingles on the composition roof area and replace them. This is a Eickler-like Rummer design...prone to leaks on the flat roof areas. This company guranteed the roof against leaks.

We were comfortable with the estimator and felt the company would do a good job. We choose to redo the tar and gravel roof we have. CCand L does not do that type of roof so have hired another roofing company. We called them for an estimate for re-roofing a low-sloped area which currently has a tar and gravel roof.

CCand L did a professional job from the site visit for quotation, through installation. The job-site (our home) was kept tidy and was clean after each day's work. The only error was installation of a couple more roof vents than were in the quoted specs: no charge for their error. The only issue was one downspout that leaked, and CCand L fixed it the day after we notified them. We are very happy with the workmanship as well as the roofing product.
Description of Work: CC&L removed a bar tile roof from an underlying cedar shingle roof and installed a Gerrard stone-coat steel shingle system, with a mission tile appearance/profile. Installation was over the original 80 year-old cedar roof. 50+ (80?) year-old gutters were replaced with galvalume steel as part of the job.

Prompt and efficient, once the weather and other jobs permitted them to begin. Good work ethic. Good cleanup during work. Had one problem (dislodged staging) during high winds and ice but they came within 90 minutes on a Sunday morning to repair.
Description of Work: Tear off of cedar shake roof and replace with conventional three tab shingle roof. Two buildings (home and garage/apartment/office) - fairly large job on steep pitch (8/12 or 9/12) with weather difficulties too.
