They pruned the giant cherry tree, and removed the 300 to 400 pound cedar limb (Pete had warned me not to go anywhere near the area until the work was done), and removed the debris ,all to my satisfaction. incidentally, Pete is a very nice guy, and gave me a lot of other information about the trees, which I appreciated.
The quality of the tree work seems very good. My issue is related to everything else. The guys took no care at all to what was on the ground. They let branches just fall anywhere and trampled multiple plants, broke some yard decorations, and smashed the small fences that I have around plantings to keep the dog out. When I had the estimater out, I asked if I needed to move anything or get anything ready for the trimmers and he told me "no" they would take care of it. So I certainly would have moved these things but was told it wasn't necessary. When all was done I was left with a backyard that looked totally ransacked. I also didn't appreciate the demeanor of the workers who seemed surly at best. When the trimmers arrived I opened the door and wasn't greeted, just met with weird silence. I had to ask, "You are here for the trees?" I couldn't wait to get them out of my yard. The trees look good, but I wouldn't want to deal with all that again.
Since it was a small job he was able to get a crew to my house that same day to take down the tree. They made quick work of it (it took about 30 minutes) and did a good job cleaning up the leaves and other debris. I asked them to leave the large wood in 1-foot pieces -- they did a pretty good job cutting them to that size. They left a pile that I later stacked.
They were a bit later than they said (by about 45 minutes) to grind the stump a few days later. That was a quick job (15 minutes). The grinder left a pile of wood chips. If you don't want the chips, make sure to tell them. I was able to use the wood chips elsewhere in my yard.
After the stump grinding was complete I provided a check for the amount of the estimate, and that was that!
I've had Pete come out 3 different times. He's always taken time out his often insanely-busy schedule to talk with me and find a way to take care of my tree issues.
Check out his website & give him a call. (He'll probably answer his phone personally!) I promise you won't be disappointed. :-)
pete came, gave her the estimate which was right in there with others so no problems there.
pete was uncomfortable coming through my house to the back door to see the tree (i had no time to get the gate key before he came out).
i called pete and scheduled the work asking if they could do the job sooner that would be great - i knew full well that this was no time to prune my stone pit tree pruned so wanted to take the brunt as soon as we could.
pete graciously called to advise that they could get us in sooner. okay. so far so good. again i informed pete that i would ensure that one or the other of my adult children be home to not only open the gate but to pay him when the work was complete. so far so good.
pete and another fellow arrived bright and early on the morning of the job. while the tree was being pruned pete wanted it looked at and okayed. my daughter had not anticipated this and as it were i was running late for work so she asked me to take a look. i was irritated. why take a look? i wasn't even supposed to be a part of the deal besides paying! pete insisted that the work be checked. i looked out the window and "checked" whatever that means. i gave my daughter my response.
okay. the above bit was a bit annoying. if i am not supposed to even be home and we had not discussed the "having a look piece" then what's up? now pete goes weird.
i am running late and frantically trying to get myself together and out the door when my daughter comes to the door looking odd. she tells me that pete just came to the front door and said, "i am getting a weird vibe from this deal. why don't we just call the whole thing off". SAY WHAT???? my daughter restates what pete said to her saying that he was very unprofessional and asked that he be paid prior to grinding the stump!!!! i am sooooo not feeling this drama! i have a meeting first thing, i am trying to get out of the door, my daughter is more competent than most 50 year olds and she knows not to bother me with kibbles and bits.
now i hear my friend who is living on our lower level (and has NOTHING to do with any of this) trying to talk to pete about getting the work done and how i am a responsible homeowner yadda yadda! when i hear this i am ready to blow a gasket! i am forced to come to the door in my bathrobe to find out what in the h*** is going on!!! i fume to the door to have pete give me a bunch of blah blah and yadda yadda about needing to pick up some other piece of equipment and he just thought that if he could get paid now - YOU HEARD IT RIGHT - PRIOR TO COMPLETING THE JOB AND GOING OFF SITE NO LESS - he would appreciate it.
i said no. i reminded him of what our agreement was to which he essentially launched in to the piece of equipment that would be sometime later etc... none of which i wanted to hear. we made a deal. stick to your word! why didn't pete tell me he wanted to be paid before the job was done. i would have, obviously, said no. there were too many other options to deal with this. i did not even begin to get in to his remark to my daughter about my home giving him a "weird vibe" - nutville, right? why didn't he say that when he came out to bid the job in the first place? or better yet why not give an outlandish bid that no thinking person would have said yes to in the first place.
anyway... i did not appreciate the way that deal went down at all and would NEVER use this company again even if it does turn out to be fabulous.
whose got the "weird vibe" going? sheesh!
Bud's is by far the best company we have ever used, they are very professional, efficient, timley and very reasonable in price.
My wife and I are very impressed with this company and would strongly recomend this company to anyone that is looking for tree services.
I would highly recommend Pete and his team to anyone who needs their services.
We scheduled the work to be done a week later. Then he knocked on my door five minutes later and told me he'd had a cancellation and would I like the work done right away. Hallelujah! While waiting for his crew to come round we chatted about some other trees on my property, their present health and future needs, and my original instinct that Pete was going to be my arborist was confirmed. His crew arrived and they started right in, took care of business efficiently and professionally. Man am I happy when I see true professionals doing their thing. Worth every penny.
Pete said he'd be back within a few days with his stump grinder, but in fact he turned up early the next morning and took care of the three stumps, leaving my yard and sidewalk cleaner than they were before. We've already made plans for his team to remove a dying Hawthorn and prune my monkey puzzle tree this winter (not an easy job!), and Buds will be my go-to tree service going forward. We love Buds and you will too.
Mr. Pete and his crew came out to remove a tree in my yard. I was disappointed in the quality of the work that they did. Besides removing my tree they took out a couple of rhododendrons that I had planted. What aggravated me the most though was the lack of clean up and professionalism by the company. I?ve used some tree services in the past and at the end of the job they would clean up and put things back the original state
1) They removed part of a fence that I have to keep out dog in the yard to haul away the debris and when completed they did not return it to the original state.
2) After they completed the work there was leaves and sticks all over the yard and my deck that I had to clean up.
3) They removed a composter dumping the contents on the ground and tossed it on its side about 20 feet away to give them some room. Again I had to clean this up after they left.
When I called Pete and asked him if he was coming back to clean up and put things back to original state he said he did not have that in the budget for a return trip and that he was barely making any money on the job. I pressed him on cleaning up the site. He said he was going to be out town this week but would come back next week. He asked me to give him a call in 8 days to remind him and see if he could come back.
I would not recommend this company.
the pruning was scheduled for today; Pete and the crew arrived on time, reviewed the project with me, set to work quickly, checked with me during the project to make sure the pruning was being done within the parameters discussed, cleaned up completely, and had a final conversation with me to make sure the pruning was completed to my satisfaction. This was one of the very best experiences I've had with a contractor--completely professional with superior customer service. I unreservedly recommend Bud's Expert Tree Service and will use them again myself.
