It was great from beginning to end. Since they did both exterior and interior work, they were on the jobsite near the beginning and end of the job, and were very helpful in identifying areas that could become issues with other trades, in a way that enabled me to avoid problems. I thought their advise throughout the project was very credible. They worked hard, stayed on task, stayed on schedule and came in on budget. Mike was really patient with me when it came to finish tile work and grout colors. I won't work with anyone else in this arena, Mike has a customer for life.

He started strong the first week but then he began to fail to show up on the job site in a timely manner. Some days he'd spend two hours on the site while most other days, I wouldn't see him at all. Often I would find him down at the local bar with his crew. Upon further investigation, we discovered that he was exempt from having employees yet he had these guys crawling under the house while it was on jacks with no workman's comp. Come to find out, his "employees" were guys that were living with him and worked in exchange for room and board. One often complained that he never got paid. Work was done out of logical sequence. A) Permits were sought midway through the project while the house was on jacks and blocks. This created time issues and added expnse as Mulnomah County wanted to ensure the house was not on the property line. As a result, the project was put on hold for three months as we were forced to undergo and pay for a property survey, septic verification and unconditional use permit in order for the project to move forward. As we waited for country approval, snows melted and flooded under the house prompting the blocks and jacks to sink into the mud. This caused further deterioration to the home as the project languished. Windows and framing were added to the home before it was set down on a solid foundation and needed to be redone. Framing that he did inside had to be ripped out and redone as it went out of plum due to the settling of the house while it was on jacks. Rocks were installed in french drain pit before piping and concrete footings were installed, so that had to be taken out. He sistered pressure treated wood against dry rotted joists by only a couple feet. That had to be ripped out and redone and we were told that we're lucky we didn't fall through the floor. He failed to put flashing above windows and never waterproofed them properly. He failed to provide us with a written contract and required notices that are to go with it. In summary, concrete was never poured, electrical and plumbing was never installed and he walked away with $24,000.00 of our money. We have turned the case over to the Construction Contractor's Board for their review. We have since hired another contractor and really investigated his lisence. So far so good with this guy.
