The tech arrived very close to estimated time, was pleasant and worked efficiently. After pulling the dishwasher out he gave me time to clean up after the "little friends" my kitty brings in live for me. The drain hose was installed quickly. He also noticed that the dishwasher was missing a few panels near the floor. At original install the tech (not from ARH) told us they wouldn't fit because our counter was too low. I found them and he installed 2 of the 3 panels. The 3rd one really didn't fit. The dishwasher looks much nicer now. The only 'problem' was the Asko hose had to be back ordered and it took a week to get the part. I would call ARH again even if they weren't the only company I could find to service Asko products.

I have had really bad luck with the appliances that were part of the purchase of a "used" condo. I have had to use Appliance and Refrigeration Hospital for all work, on: Fisher Paykel dishwasher, SubZero freezer (3 times) and now my Asko dryer. Since the dryer repair, the Asko washer has sprung a leak and I am waiting for a part. I have no good alternatives for service on these appliances. I am contemplating replacing as many as I can afford to replace, if alternative brands will fit into the spaces available in the condo. It is BAD to have these "upscale" appliances.
Description of Work: Asko clothes dryer needed new rollers. As usual, parts needed to be ordered so a second visit was required. The technician seems to know his business and is very careful.

I went with them initially because my garbage disposal is under warranty, and the Insinkerator website lists them as the company to call for warranty service. When the work order went through, they were prompt and responsive, and the technician was punctual and conscientious. Although I ended up paying for the service (the problem was with the installation, which another company performed, not the product), it wasn't prohibitively expensive. My only reservation is in regard to actually trying to schedule the work. I missed their initial call-back and I left three subsequent messages that weren't returned. But when I finally got a hold of them, everything went more than smoothly.
Description of Work: Fixed my Badger 5xp garbage disposal, because it was leaking from the bottom of the device.

The person who initially answered the phone was very nice and helpful. She suggested I contact Amana just in case I could get the repair paid for. I did but had no luck getting the repair paid for. She scheduled a service call for Thurs. with a 2 hour range estimate. They called back to confirm and arrived within the time stated. The repairman was professional and answered my questions and didn't waste any time. The charge for the service call was $70, the part $100 and an additional labor charge of $50 to install it.
Description of Work: My 18 month old Amana refrigerator was not defrosting properly causing the refrigerator not to cool and the freezer to be too cold. The repair man diagnosed the problem and ordered a part on Thursday. He told me to turn off the fridge until the ice melted and then I could reload the food and use the fridge until the part arrived. This worked fine and he was back on Monday with the part. The part was installed in a few minutes and the fridge is working great.

Very well: I called and scheduled an appointment three days out. When my husband said he couldn't make that appointment, I rescheduled with no difficulty. The repairman came during the appointed time frame and diagnosed the problem. He called when he got back to the shop to say that they had the part and scheduled a follow up appointment. He was late for the follow-up appointment, but did work late to get it done that day instead of having to reschedule.
Description of Work: Washing machine agitator wasn't agitating, so we needed diagnosis and repair.

The folks at Appliance and Refrigeration Hospital were great. When they discovered that we didn't have a back up fridge -- they worked to get a repair person out as quickly as possible. After a check up it was determined that we needed a new part. A week out! The repairman was able to provide us with a way to get our fridge to "kick start" for a bit until he could replace the part. The next visit he repaired the fridge and all was good for a couple of days. But bummer -- the refrigerator decided to go on the fritz again! The customer service folks were terrific -- they squeezed us in the same day. The same repairman came back and was able to diagnose in 5 minutes. They fixed the fridge and didn't charge us for the second visit or the labor. Just the part.
Description of Work: Our 10-year old refrigerator decided to stop chilling recently. The freezer worked, but the refrigerator didn't.

Repairman was tidy and polite, performed the repairs quickly once he arrived. The time slot given to me the night before was 9-12; the dispatch office called at 11:15 to say he was running late and he arrived close to 1:00. I would have appreciated earlier notice that he was running that late.

I was a long time customer of a repair service in Portland. They did all my appliance repairs. I own apartment buildings in Portland. I called them yesterday(2/18/08) and was forwarded to Appliance and refrigeration Hospital who had taken over their business. The person on the phone was rude and not cooperative. I had two refrigerators and one range that needed attention but she demanded that I obtain the "serial numbers," brand, make and model of each before she would take my request. When I said I didn't know them or could not obtain them she was rude and said they wouldn't do anything without that.

Compared to the three repairman from A&E Factory Service, Doug from Appliance and Refrigeration Hospital was immensely better to work with. He was friendly, helpful, careful in his work, patient, and considerate of my concerns. He immediately corroborated my concerns, which A&E had dismissed. He discovered they had used the wrong parts and he ordered the correct ones. He made sure the parts were sent to him and that he would return to install them. He said Appliance and Refrigeration Hospital takes responsibility for its work and a repair person is assigned to a job, from beginning to completion. If Doug is representative of this company, I would hire them again in a heartbeat.
Description of Work: Doug came out and listened to my self-described noisy, new Whirlpool refrigerator. Another company, A&E Factory Service, had already been out three times, replaced the fan motor and blade, and still not fixed the problem although they declared it fixed. Doug from Appliance and Refrigeration Hospital listened, agreed that it was too noisy, noted that the parts A&E replaced were not the appropriate ones for my model, and ordered a new fan motor and blade assembly. He came back on December 24th with the new parts, installed them, did some other minor work to make the overall installation more professional, and left. I have not had a problem since.

THIS IS IN INACCURATE REPORT! THE REASON FOR NOT MEETING OUR APPOINTMENT WAS DUE TO SNOW AND ICE AND THE INABILITY TO GET TO THEIR HOME! HE HAD GOTTEN STUCK AND HAD TO USE CHAINS TO GET BACK TO A MAIN ROADWAY. OUR TECHNICIAN SPOKE TO THIS CUSTOMER DIRECTLY AND ADVISED OF THIS PROBLEM AND VOLUNTEERED TO TRY TO DO THE CALL THE NEXT DAY, WHICH WAS SATURDAY ON HIS OWN TIME. I have found these guys to be very honest and very good at what they do. Unlike many of the other companies out there, they also work on higher end appliances at the same rate as others. The service fee has been between $70 - $100 depending on the work. The only thing I would want to have different is that the company is very busy and it sometimes takes over a week to have them come out for service.

The day before the appointment I received a 3-hour window for the service technician to arrive. I provided a cell phone number so I could be called 30 minutes before. The service technician called me 30-minutes prior as requested. He dismantled the hot water dispenser and could not tell me what was wrong with it. He tried to put it back together & lost two parts in the process. He got it to work again intermittently but the bracket to hold it steady was still missing. He was not having a good day & his demeanor was rather abrupt & he was obviously frustrated. He told me he could not fix my problem today & he would have to check his supplies back at the warehouse to see whether or not he could find the correct bracket. I paid the $70 trip charge & he did not charge me anything additional since he did not fix it. My husband called several times to get them out again. I did my own research & purchased a new unit at a plumbing supply place. The original tech installed it when he returned
Description of Work: I asked this company to come to repair my In-Sink-Erator instant hot water dispenser (see photo of old dispenser). The volume of water coming out of the dispenser had diminished greatly and it was sputtering.

Although there was a long tine lapse from the beginning to end of the work due to the ice maker not quite working correctly after each visit, we were very happy with the result.
Description of Work: Repaired a plugged condensate drain line on 15 year old Sub Zero refrigerator. Also repaired an inoperative ice maker. The repairman returned four times without an extra charge to get the ice maker operating. He was extremely concerned about getting the ice maker to work without charging us for a new one. Everything is fine now.

This was a very smooth operation from start to finish. Phoned the company to make a service appointment and was given one three business days away, which was acceptable. Was told to expect a call the day before, to provide expected time of the service call. They did call as promised and gave me a three-hour window in which to expect the repairman. He arrived within that time frame, having phoned first to confirm my availability. Got right to work, obviously very familiar with the product and had the problem resolved promptly.
Description of Work: Diagnose and repair an intermittent refrigerator/freezer problem, Maytag Model RSW22A, about 12 years old, with no previous problems. Diagnosis involved detailed questions (to homeowner) on appliance behavior and disassembly of the freezer inner rear wall. This revealed ice blocking the freezer coil assemblies. Unit was then manually placed into defrost mode and the three defrost heaters were seen to be operating properly. That narrowed the problem down to the defrost timer assembly. It was replaced by a new unit from the service truck.

"Doctor Tom" was a rude and condescending person. He actually appeared pleased that the cost of the repair estimate he offered equaled the cost of a new dryer. In light of this repairman behavior we did not want ARH to repair the unit. The estimated repair costs also led us to replace the dryer. If we had a choice I wouldn't use ARH ever again but they are the only service in town that services our brand of washer and dryer.

Overall the repairman (Dave) was courteous, professional, timely and got the job done expeditiously. He did however remount the dishwasher door incorrectly and my husband had to take it off and move the location of the screws for it to open properly. (5:30 Friday night, easier to do it yourself then have to wait until the next week). Since they are the only dealer in town, we had nothing to compare the price too, a little outrageous for a 10 year old dishwasher. Overall a good/fair experience.
Description of Work: Replaced a board in our Asko Dishwasher. They are the only company in town that repairs this type of dishwasher. They did order the board beforehand and have it with them when they showed up at the house.

I had a 3 hour time window and they offered to call me before the tech showed up so I could just come home from work without waiting. Then I needed an emergency doc appt. scheduled at the exact same time! The women answering the phone figured out a solution. When the technician came, he was polite, neat, and quick. He didn't have the part he needed, but he figured out how to jury-rig it so it worked just fine. He spent a lot of time making sure it worked and told me that if it failed in 30 days they would come back. The experience was a thousand times better than my last service call from a large national repair provider.

Greg came out and fixed my Asko dryer with lightening speed. The belt was broken, but he has some sort of clever way to replace it without pulling the whole thing a part (I think he may very well be a magician). He was very friendly, on-the-dot punctual, and professional, and even gave me some tips as to avoiding problems with my washer and dryer in the future. I couldn't recommend him highly enough. The story is above; it went swimmingly. The technician showed up on time, identified the problem immediately, and fixed it without incident. Everything was put back as he found it, including a convoluted trash pull-out drawer that he had to disassemble to access the hoses. He was very knowledgeable about the appliance and its care and operation. My only issue is that it took so long to get an appointment because there are so few companies that work on Bosch appliances. I have used ARH before in another house for a Dacor range, and it was the same story, up to a week for an appointment, which is a long time to wait for a kitchen appliance to be repaired.
Description of Work: My Bosch dishwasher leaked when operating. ARH diagnosed and fixed the problem by installing a hose that changed the drain flow. The technician (whose name I regret to say I don't remember) also gave me operating tips and explained how to keep everything in good working order.

11/9 service call, 12/1 scheduled install of part(had difficulty getting part), 11/30 part did not come in so appt. canceled for 12/1, was told part was back ordered at factory, 11/30 called Amana factory directly, 80 compressors available in their warehouse, 11/30 called Jeremy, dispatch manager,he wasn't sure why their computer showed zero in stock. The part had come in so he scheduled the install for 12/5 as our 12/1 appt. was canceled 12/4 dispatch telephoned to confirm appt the following day, I confirmed with the caller that we were to be the first call of the day at 9am, 12/5 called dispatch at 9:45 wondering where the installer was,was told we weren't the first call scheduled. Spoke with Jeremy again. He apologized for the miscommunication but we were not the first call, he could not explain the discrepancy with the part availability. The installer showed up at 10 was courteous and was done in two hours. This experience left us feeling very frustrated to say the least.

Gary has been out several times due to a recurring problem we've had with the ice maker on our new refrigerator. He has yet to lose his patience. He's very careful with his toolbox in the kitchen. He's quiet, pleasant, and professional. It turns out to be a design flaw; we think it's fixed.

Great. Very quick, and the service tech explained everything. Parts took a while to come in, which delayed actual service scheduling.
Description of Work: Fixed clothes washing machine, still under warranty (parts and labor). Door boot (rubber seal) was examined, reinstalled after something got caught in it and ripped it out.

Wow, what a lovely company. The folks who take our calls are so friendly, and they always work to fit us in the schedule as quickly as they can. Our service tech was terrific; very personable, always on time, gave me tips, etc. All of our work was under warranty, and when we ran into trouble getting appropriate service from the manufacturer, the folks at A&R Hospital helped out. He said that he would be there between 2 and 5. He showed up at 5, and was very professional. He did excellent work, even with my 6 year old asking questions. He was very good with the 6 year old, explaining what he was doing. Obviously he had a lot of experience and was confident in doing his work. I would definitely recommend and use again.
