ANN SACKS TILE & STONE INC

The tiles were about 3 X 5 inches in size. They came in smaller that originally shown, about 1/4" in each dimension and the color, which was supposed to be a medium oatmeal, ranged from very light oatmeal to a very dark oatmeal. On top of all that they were not flat, if you held one end down the other end could be up to 3/8" higher. The folks at Ann Sacks told us that was the way it was with handmade tile, each batch was different. We knew that from the start, but many of the delivered tiles were unusable, about half of them. They said that was the way it was. No apology, no "let's get you what you need", we had bought the tiles and there were no returns. Our sales person tried to intervene yet she wasn't allowed to. She quit Ann Sacks after our experience. Since these were going to be the back splash for our new kitchen we needed our cabinet maker to come back in and raise the heigth of the top of the counters to adjust for the smaller size tiles. We re-ordered more tiles that we still needed to replace the truly unusable, again taking the chance that they would not match. The second set was very similar to the first. Our tile setter needed to lay out the tiles in our garage to minimize the color, size variations before he could set them. I can only hope that Ann Sacks has improved on their quality and customer care.

Working with the Ann Sacks store was very easy. I found the tile I wanted online, and within 10 minutes of being in their Pearl showroom I had the tile ordered. It was ready for pickup the next morning from their North Portland warehouse. They made sure I had the special installation instructions and when I asked they gave me a list of recommended installers which was really helpful. When I needed more tile I was able to order over the phone and pick up quickly. The tile looks great - lots of compliments. Expensive, but well worth it.

Not the most helpful people in the world, but their designs are gorgeous.
