First time: Our new construction window wouldn't close and had a 1 inch gap. The service technician came to fix it and the problem was simple. So simple that it was fixed in 4 seconds and he didn't charge us. Instead to ask us to call he company. We were so touched and appreciated the help.
Second time: Two other windows had tension sashes broken. We called them and the people were so kind, offered to teach me over the phone to fix it myself. However, I'm not terribly handy and instead scheduled an appointment. They came to fix it. We saw the same technician again and thanked him for his help again for the 1st time. He remembered us!
I wouldn't hesitate to call them for my window problems and give them referrals. Every time I contacted them, they were helpful, responsive, professional and kind. Greatly touched by their customer service.
For the most part, it went very well and I would be giving them straight As except for one thing. The person who came out to see the window and give us a bid said it would look just as new when they were finished -- but the interior strip between the panes isn't the same as on the original window, which matters because it's one of a pair of windows separated by only 6and quot; or so on the wall. Now the repaired window has a shiny material separating the panes while the rest of our windows do not. Small matter, perhaps, but it stands out when the curtains are open.
I do have to say: Both the fellow who gave us the bid and the fellow who brought the new glass out and installed it were extremely nice, polite, and they did their work quickly and professionally (except for the description of the proposed repair). We were very pleased with the price and we were charged exactly what we were quoted. They were always punctual. We do not suspect the change in material in the window is inferior to what we had; it's just different. It took longer than we expected between the bid and the installation of the new glass, but it was during the holidays and we figured that was probably to be expected.
I would hire them again but I'll be more careful that we're both clear on every aspect of the job to be done.
Alpine glass did the original install of our shower glass and door during a fairly extensive remodel. After a few years, the gasket in the lower hinge began to fail, and ultimately slipped out of place dramatically. I called Alpine Glass to have the repair done, fully expecting that I would have to pay for it. When their repair person arrived, he was courteous and efficient. He did inform me however, that the repair should not have been necessary, and that if the install had been done properly, this problem would not have happened. He told me he would report back to the company that his opinion was that the hinge had not been tightened to specs, and as a result the gasket had slipped. He said I should not have to pay for it. He also did mention that they wouldn't be too eager to hear what he had to say, as they are under a lot of pressure to bill out for service calls.
When I received the call from Alpine Glass telling me the amount due, I discussed with them what their repairman had told me, and that I was not expecting to pay for something due to an improper installation, as noted by their repairman. I was told that it was out of warranty. I asked him if the opinion of their repair person was being taken into consideration, and I was simply told that they have to pay their servicemen for a service call.
It's short-sighted and opportunistic of them, to ignore the advice of their technicians. They would rather bill today, than honor the work they've done in the past. I even went so far as to point out the message he was sending about their values and business practices by charging for work to repair a job that was necessary only due to their own improper install.
For the record, I am happy to pay for work done and I am happy to take financial responsibility for home ownership and maintenance and upkeep. This is an instance though, of a company not standing behind their work, and as such I feel it is my responsibility too, to issue a warning to others who may be considering Alpine Glass. They do not value their customers. They do not grasp the importance of their reputation. They are in it for the immediate paycheck, not the long term relationships.
Buyer beware.
"Customer service and satisfaction is of the utmost importance to Alpine Glass Service and we do apologize for this misunderstanding and miscommunication. I can assure you a thorough review was conducted as a result of your review and our findings included inaccuracies in your comments; the Glazier who performed the service disagreed with your statement of him informing you that the repair would not have been necessary had the original installation been done correctly. With regular use of a shower door, normal wear and tear is expected. As verified within the service call paperwork, this was the underlying reason the required service."
I called a couple of glass companies and was given Alpine's name.
They sent out a repair person within a few days who determined that the rollers were worn out. Unfortunately, the size of the door meant it took extra-large rollers, which had to be ordered.
Mike, the repair person who came, took pictures of the old ones to be sure the correct ones were ordered.
It took a week for him to return....apparently the company is very busy. And it would have been better if they sent two men because of the door's size, but apparently they didn't have two people available. Mike did a great job of handling a very heavy door but it wasn't easy.
The door now works fine. I would recommend this company, however they are so busy that I do think it impacts some of their work. So if you have something really heavy to be carried, I'd insist on an extra person.
referred to Alpine by the people from whom I bought the woodstove. I
took the door in on a Monday morning at 9:00 and he asked me if we
heated our home by the woodstove (and we did). He called at 1:00 pm and
I picked it up. This speed was extraordinary and the job perfect
The second was done in three days and was perfect--the table had been commissioned by an artist sometime ago, so the glass was custom. The job was excellent, the service excellent and my two experiences prompted me to go to Alpine for the third.
The third was to have a custom-sized mirror made for our bathroom--we had put this off for a year because we really didn't know who to go to for this. This mirror was done in three working days and is beautiful.
Alpine is one of the finest experiences I've had with any retailer.
"This comment consists of defaming statements and should be removed. Alpine Glass Service emphasizes integrity in all aspects of operations. Customer service and satisfaction is our highest priority. What this review implies is that we NEVER contacted the customer, which is not true. Our records reflect every contact attempt, for which we left "detailed and specific" messages stating the intended service, including specifications of shower doors, and asking for a returned call by a specific date if this plan was not acceptable. The shower doors were then installed as scheduled."
Phone call to completion of work was less than one week. This is the second time I've used this company, but my first review of them.
