Paul filed for bankruptcy and kept over 17K in monies paid in advance to him. He was supposed to do permitting for a basement ADU conversion, but it dragged on for months on end so I ended up taking over permitting and it was completed in 6 weeks. Workmanship on other kitchen/bath remodel projects was shoddy at best... 7 months after painting cabinets, paint is chipping; things not done to code; took months to get work redone (some never happened) and to get unfinished work addressed. Had to make multiple trips from out of state just to keep work moving forward. Stopped all communication and filed bankruptcy. Having to start from scratch on major remodel project.

He's the best! Paul has a very good sense of scale! That is something that is very difficult!

We were completly strung along with Paul. We had a signed contract which was 2 part (first part to do the design and then we would look for bids) and 2nd part( the construction drawings. Paul never stopped or even finished the design phase and moved right into the 2nd phase. We were of the understanding he new what he was doing but after paying him his entire fee income which was stipulated on the contract our project essentially died. We sat for months without andy progress and continually got the run around every time we requested an updated. We're out $10K for essentially nothing we can use. We want our time & money back!!!!!!!!!!!

"How to respond in so little space? We had come to a fair dissolutionn of contract in June; comment just showed up. Project was complicated and took extra time, but ... owner also lost job and told us to slow up in middle of project, contract was followed as to when we moved into the 2nd phase, fees charged were less than actual (lots of client changes), offer to complete at no charge was refused."

Responsive. Not too spendy. Good input and follow-up.

"Fun little project helping someone who had work done on his new house by previous owners that didn't pass county muster. We worked with the county to revise the portion of the house in question and get him a current permit."

Nice designs and delivered timely. Was a little surprised that his assistant didn't take note during any of our meetings, and I had to correct the changes we requested once. Over all I would use them again and chalk it up to lack of experience from the assistant.

"Another fun addition to an existing house. And .. a good learning experience for my assistant on how to track the seemingly unlimited information that is part and parcel to a design project."

It was a less than satisfactory experience. Paul was late with our drawings, never called us unless we called him first, never kept us informed of what was going on -- for example his office moved and we never knew until after it was all done and he said that was why he was behind. The drawings were suppose to take "a couple of weeks". They took close to 6 weeks to produce. We couldn't get permits with the drawings - it had to go back for revisions because the drawings were incomplete. We started this process in April and we still haven't been able to start construction to date.
Response from

"A hard comment to read. Project sailed through the permit process after one simple question was answered. I need to chalk this one up to needing to better communicate to clients when an office move is happening. We used this comment as a way to better stay in touch with clients through the entire process of design and construction, so even though it hurt, we are better for it."

Paul Ries seems to be the best canidate for our project. He has been very personable and he actually listens to our ideas for the kitchen. Every thing is going really good so far so good. I will update the rating in March when the work is completed. Thank you!!
