My 2003 ford 6.0L diesel engine is known for having problems. In this instance it was cutting out or dying under hard acceleration. The problem was diagnosed by AG and I was duly informed on repair cost. They rand r 'd the problem on Thursday and delivered it to me on Monday. It now works perfectly.
So why the low ratings you ask?
1. The service tech on the initial drive noted a "clunk" in the front end that he noted signaled a bad front ball joint with immediate replacement by AG recommended. He further noted other various needed fixes and that there was no spare tire on the truck and how unsafe that was.
Somehow the tech missed the fact that the spare wheel/tire was lying in the bed of the pickup. Whenever you go over a big enough bump that spare will jump and create a clunking noise. I and the other principle driver of the truck have driven it 1500 miles over all types of surfaces since its repair and never have observed any noise from the front end. The tire store that rotates our tires has not mentioned any problems with the tires or the front end components. This would have cost another substantial amount had I approved this unnecessary repair.
2. Parts costs: It is a given that any repair shop is going to charge extra for parts. I can live with that. But $8 to spray a coating on the battery terminals and then charge me for both cans? That is obscene and makes me question their other business charges.
So the cost of $2300 to repair the truck may or may not have been fair. I have no way of knowing. The engine is running great. And there is nothing wrong with the front end.
I was disappointed to find out that the repairs needed on the truck were expensive, and I was worried that the repairs would cost more than the actual value of the vehicle. Since I had a busy schedule, I was not able to come in and inspect the truck myself. However, I was kept informed about the problems and costs, in real time, by their representative, Patrick. I also liked to hear that they could start working on the truck right away.
Although the truck repairs took about 4-5 days, there was a special high pressure oil test that pointed out the true nature of the problem and once that was done the truck was fixed in about 1 day.
Overall I am fine with the overall costs, given the extensive work needed to take the engine apart, etc and the amount of time the repair required. Also I am happy that the prices were lower than original estimate.
I believe that AG diesel repair has done a great job and am planning to use them again in the unfortunate event if any of our trucks gives us problems. They are a family owned business and are willing to go the extra mile to make their customers happy.
