Although Hal's was willing to invoice for the work the account was settled by check on completion at our request based on travel plans. Confirmation for the payment was provided in a timely manner.
Their work was far superior to sealing work done in the area by another contractor which peeled within the first year.
I called their main number to complain but i just continues to go to voice-mail.
I do not recommend this company.
We had them go ahead with the project. They were by far the most expensive bid, buthey had offered a lot more, especially their installation of drywells to take out the surface water.
I did think it was questionable that they insisted their method was proprietary (according to the property
management company) because to my thinking there is nothing proprietary about drywells, nor their use in parking lots. The import of that is no bids were obtained that were "apples to apples."
We decided to go ahead because they did have some good recommendations, and overall, I'm glad we did, though I think the expense was somewhat high.
The best news is, they appear to have done an excellent job and the problem seems to be solved so far.
The first days' patches were done well. The second day's patches used asphalt that was too cool or dry (can't recall exact wording of the paver), resulting in rough brittle patches that immediately began to disintegrate. We spoke with them several times about this, with their promising to redo the poor work, but after a few months they have still not done so.
Our withholding payment until the job was completed properly resulted in Hal's threatening a lien against our property and demanding a cashier's check for immediate payment.
"IN RESPONSE TO THE MEMBER'S COMPLAINT AGAINST HAL'S CONSTRUCTION. WE HAVE BEEN IN BUSINESS FOR 35 YEARS, AND PRIDE OURSELVES ON A JOB DONE RIGHT THE FIRST TIME. THE MEMBER HAS TURNED US IN TO THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU, WHO AFTER WE SUBMITTED PROOF FROM THE CONCRETE EXPERT WE HIRED, CLOSED OUR CASE WITH NO FAULT. AS FOR HIS COMMENT ABOUT ME TELLING HIS WIFE TO SHUT UP. I WAS SPEAKING WITH HIM ON THE SPEAKER PHONE, AND HIS WIFE WOULD NOT LET US HAVE A CONVERSATION. I DID NOT TELL HIS WIFE DIRECTLY TO SHUT UP, I ASKED HIM TO, SO WE COULD HAVE A CIVILIZED CONVERSATION. IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO TRY TO RESOLVE AN ISSUE WHEN THE CLIENT HAS ALREADY ASSUMED WHO IS AT FAULT. I TRIED TO HELP THE MEMBER BY HIRING A CONCRETE EXPERT, I EVEN SENT HIM PHOTOS AND THE EXPLANATION. I AM SORRY HE IS A DISSATISFIED CUSTOMER, BUT I TRIED TO HELP AS BEST I COULD."
